I have a 2019 Mazda CX-GT, the same color as your test CX-5. Traded in a BMW 335i for it. Don't miss the BMW at all. Mazda is building some high-quality cars, that drive great. They can easily compete with BMW, Audi, and MB, but at 30% less in price.

I’ve only ever owned BMW, Mazda, and Audi.. they’re similar in all the ways I love. Understated elegance and total sleepers for the base engines.

I have a 2018 CX-5 Touring and love it. We are a Toyota family, but the Mazda is so quiet and comfortable, and the interior is really nice.
almost 33 MPG going to Vegas and back in the 2WD version.
    Good review Sarah!

If you love the 2018 CX5 Touring, you'd SUPER-LOVE the 2019 Signature (or Grand Touring Reserve) with the really SWEET torquey turbo engine! My new wife and I took our brand new Deep Crystal Blue baby from New York to Walt Disney World Orlando and back, and WOW, what a fun and luxurious 3100 miles it was! And get this... We have AWD AND TURBO and had both the trunk and back seat LOADED with luggage, a cooler, and tons of Disney souvenirs, and we averaged a totally jaw-gaping 31-32mpg on the highway, which is about a full 5mpg BETTER than the EPA window sticker rating!!!!!!!! This thing is whisper smooth and quiet and moves effortlessly both in terms of acceleration and its buttuh-like steering... For 36,500 FULLY LOADED, there is no greater value on earth in any class!!

These AWD crossovers are in high demand for the high driving position & perceived safety of AWD. The most off road action they normally see is a gravel driveway or grass verge, so it’s good to see you putting it through it’s paces at your local adventure playground. Honestly, it’s good to see you doing anything. Good job Sarah

This is a reasonably realistic offroad test area. It’s about the hardest path anyone with a mountain bike or a dirt bike on a trailer would need to take to get to a trail head.

Another great review, Sarah. I totally agree with you, in that your reviews are different than all the rest. That makes them special. That Mazda is one sharp car; with some pretty good off-road credentials. I suppose we'll never know the penguin score for the center console? It's nice to see new people featured in your videos. Keep up the great work. Love your channel.

Have to agree with you on Mazda's interior design. It looks sleek, clean and more expensive than it actually looks.
Was in the dealership for a 1k check up on my mx5 and stuck my head inside the cx5 while I was there.
It's the same interior as my mx5, and that's a good thing.
Thanks for the vids pale face 👍😁

Have one of these. I love it when someone goes "lets get the engine from a bigger car (cx-9) and jam it into a smaller one".
It is very comfortable to drive (radar cruise, head up display and lane keep assist make long drives easy). In Australia (where we drive on the other side of the road), the torque steer makes for very interesting "self driving" over taking moves.

And by the way, in my opinion you're looking gorgeous with your white skin like your cam looks quite good with her browner skin. I'd love to see you both more often together.
It's also good to see that a car tester like you really uses the car on dirty roads, so everyone is able to see how the car behave offroad. Good job.

Mazda CX-5 the best compact SUV! I have 2017 GT but deer accidentally hit the car and insurance totaled it. And now I have the 2020 CX-5 Signature and I really love the car, same as my 2017 GT. I choose Mazda CX-5 because they are reliable and never gave me a negative feedback for the years i drove with my 3 years 2017 GT. The interior is classy for the non luxury SUV its not cheap build and the safety system is superb! My family has a Lexus NX 2017 and they always went to the dealer because there's a lot of problem with the computer system car won't turn on.

Great review as always. You looked having fun with an affordable car. Like that Mazda CX5 very much. It’s really good looking and the value for money is much better than with a BMW X3 or Audi Q5. In Europe the 2.5l engine only has 190 hp, I think because of emission standards. Good idea to get off-road with Kyla. She’s a very sympathetic young woman. You
will make up a good team.

    • @fleurdewin7958

I have that color in my 2019 CX 5 GT Reserve 2.5 L. turbo, AWD. I have many aftermarket upgrades, mostly cosmetic and mostly from Ali Express (yes, form China but all of high quality). But my most stupid upgrade was the "CX-5" door sill plates, lighted front plates, plain rear plates for $417. including labor! Beautiful but really my dealer screwed me.
This is a car that punches WAY above its price class. And with a tank of $8.00 per gallon 100 octane gas it FLIES!
I got they SUV for getting to skiing and hunting areas. Yeah, I do have chins for the front tires.

Mazda is pushing the bar with engine designs, which is great but it does mean that pretty soon the ability to increase output from a stock engine is not going to be too possible, when stock is already very close to maxing out efficiency.

Why do you have to do that if a stock engine already have enough power?

@@niklasgroning5792 enough power is very subjective, and doesn't always coincide with maximum efficiency.
But the days of adjusting boost pressure, or fueling, or igniting timing to squeeze out the 'overhead' left by the manufacturer are numbered with advances like spark controlled compression ignition. Great new tech that's trying to save the gasoline engine, but still.

Sarah, you're just an inch shorter than me, though substantially thinner and lighter. How are the new Mazdas in the comfort department? Three of my first four vehicles were Mazdas and I've always had a soft spot for the brand, but when it came time for a new car in 2008, the Mazdas I tested all had hard flat seats with little lateral support. Not good for long commutes and cross country road trips. Once I turned 40, comfort became my primary concern when test driving a new vehicle. No matter how fast it is or how pretty it looks, if I can tell it isn't going to be comfortable for 10 hour days on road trips or 3 to 4 hour commutes, I have to continue looking.

Wow I am kinda surprised the CX-5 made it up that last bit. Maybe I shouldnt, I've never been off roading either. Sandrails dont count lol.
Curious if you have tried the Acura RDX and which would you take? The cx-5 is like 8k cheaper but both kinda try to punch upwards so to speak and they both look really nice and have comparable performance.
Also, it's really cool to see your friends and know that you've got some help. After your last live chat, it honestly made me really stop and realize just how much work you put into this and I feel almost guilty.

You kind of have an Aubrey Plaza vibe in this review, I'm not sure if that's what you were going for but it's honestly awesome 😂

Hi Sarah. I need a new car. I’m torn between the 2024 Mazda CX-5 and Subaru (either Legacy or Outback) My issue is the CVT transmission. There is too much info out there about its longevity issue. I typically get 200K out of my cars, my current Camry has 251k. Have you ever done a video on the CVT transmission and given your opinion on it? I would really be interested to see that.

Sarah: Which would you buy, the CX-5 or the Forester?
