    I personally compared the 2015 Forester and Outback in 2.5i trim. The 17's don't have major changes over the 15's. For me, it's very very simple and boils down to only a few things:
    Country of Origin:
    Forester: 100% Japan
    Outback: Engine/Trans from Japan; rest from USA; assembled in USA
    Driving Position:
    Forester: A+
    Outback: A-
    Ride -- matter of preference:
    Forester: B -- lively but not punishing like RAV4
    Outback: A -- much smoother
    Rear Legroom:
    Forester: B
    Outback: A -- you can cross your legs!
    Turning Radius:
    Forester: A
    Outback: B
    Cargo Room:
    Forester: A-
    Outback: A+
    CVT Trans:
    Forester: B- -- no manual shift unless in XT trim -- VERY BAD for going downhill!!!
    Outback: A -- standard paddle shifters
    Tied:
    Engine and Trans are identical (except top-end -- Outback 3.6L vs Forester XT 2.0L turbo)
    Ground clearance
    Looks
    Interior -- w/ Forester redesign, both are good.
    optional Eyesight -- same now in 2017 models.
    Size -- Outback is about 10 inch longer -- not much difference except in ride, rear seat legroom and turning radius.
    Price -- very close, probably less than $1000 for similarly-equipped models
    Our family chose the 2015 Outback over the Forester. It's a matter of preference I think.

    Thanks for the video Mike! Any chance of reviewing the Impreza hatchback and Crosstrek?

    Impressive amount of detail. You should make chapters in these long videos. Just a suggestion.

    I recently got a 17 FXT Touring with eyesight. Absolutely amazing car :) although i do wish the FXT had heated rear seats for the US market

    I have discovered that Subaru actually makes one of the most Dependable cvts out there so that is comforting to know so if you're an older you don't have to worry about your CVT transmission breaking down as quickly as the Nissans and Hondas

    I enjoyed the video for a bit, I like how thorough you are. I couldn't watch it until the end tho I got fed up with the ads every 4 minutes or so. :(

      What you are telling me is the free video had such little value to you that it wasn't worth the 5 sec to skip an ad every once and a while. I hope you find a better video worth your 5 seconds of inconvenience.

    Nice run through Mike. Not much different from the 2015 baseline Subaru Impreza actually. I like dual climate in the Outback. Didn't mention towing capacity....very, very important for those who tow a small trailer for a quad or kayaks, etc.

    Nice comparison, Mike! This will be very helpful to those who want a Subaru, but cannot decipher between the two!
    Personally, I would choose the Outback because I really love the styling of it! One thing people do have to keep in mind, though, is that the Outback has a higher starting price, and is a slightly larger vehicle! I feel like the Forester competes more with Compact SUV's. While, the Outback competes more with wagons! 😉 Keep up the great work, Mike! I am looking forward to some more awesome videos!👍

    Is the 2.5L direct injection? Or combined port/direct?

  • @nickstevens3139
    @nickstevens3139 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I am amazed that the reviewer makes no mention of the space saver tyres in both vehicles. The wheel well is deep enough to store a full size spare tyre. However, it is crazy that you have to purchase a new rim and tyre and then you have a surplus space saver. Space savers are an abomination!

    Why 2 vehicles so close together in size and function, or am I missing something?

  • @MegaGeorge1948
    @MegaGeorge1948 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't know about the Forester, but the Outback DOES have vented disks in the back. Because the brakes are used for more functions than just stopping the car. Check it out.

    What does @Liz Campbell's comment mean about red light? Is that interior?

    • @timm3r
      @timm3r 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The backlighting for gauges and dash buttons is red. The outback instrument cluster is white numbers with a blue ring around the tach/speedo. I personally prefer red as it's the least intrusive to night vision so when you're driving at night you won't notice the lighting as much as if it were blue or white.

    But how do they drive? I have an 09 Forester with just over 99k miles, no mechanical problems. When I decide to sell my Forester, i might get the Outback. Which ever Subbie I buy it will have "EyeSight". I had a 16 Crosstrek as a loaner for 2 months while waiting for the air bag inflator recall with the "EyeSight" and I love how it works.

    • @MikesCarInfo
      @MikesCarInfo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do they drive? A test drive is a subjective experience and I suggest you test drive them for yourself.
      I have no intention of trying to influence you with my opinions.

  • @MrEsteban0115

    Personally I have both. 2016 Forester and 2015 Outback. Both 2.5. I must say I love more my outback. Much smoother driving, but also very capable. Forester just feels more off roady, but just the feel. Because I am pretty sure Outback would be even more capable with more off road functions than just X mode...

    • @Jon_Drew
      @Jon_Drew ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't seem to decide which one to go for. I like the Forester's upright seating and open airy cab, but I feel like the outback would be a better highway cruiser.

    • @MrEsteban0115
      @MrEsteban0115 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jon_Drew I find my outback more elegant, confort and also more off road capable than my forester. Same ground clearance. Though forester definitely gives you that jeep look and feel. Both are great in the end of the day.

  • @twig3288

    For a car that's designed to handle untarmacked roads should at least have a wheel well large enough to carry a full size spare wheel.
    For that reason alone I wouldn't consider it.

    • @rogelio1381
      @rogelio1381 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oswaldo Mercado Jimenez son buenas para la nieve o el lodo , y no son tan populares por eso en mexico ya que honda te da mas km por litro de gasolina y se descomponen mucho menos , el awd de Subaru es el mejor pero funcionan las 4 llantas siempre ,el de Honda es más suave y por eso se descompone menos casi siempre solo usa dos llantas . Honda es más cómodo en carreteras y y sin ruido , Subaru nunca te dejara estancado en la nieve o lodo pero es ruidoso .
