But ended the engagement due to Freddie’s alternative life style. They remained life long friends with Mary’s love & support until Freddie passed away in 1991. Debra I think I agree with Peter Freestone that Freddie told him it was actually written for David Minns, Freddie's first male lover. Freddie chased after him while he was still living with Mary.
