      yeah - Freddie took a few sips of beer or water during shows... but I saw him three times live.. and never saw him drink more than that -- many people first seeing the live shows comment on how many drinks are on the piano -- but fact is, those cups & bottles are for not just the band, but the entire crew... not for Freddie - lol

    Nobody gives Roger Taylor the drummer enough credit for those superb background vocals supporting Freddie. it lifts the song to another level never mind he is killing the drums at the same time. Kudos to Roger!!!

    He's been called and IS the best frontman and vocalist ever. Plus, he has the longest vocal range of anyone. He is a LEGEND!!!! Dive into Queens catalog and you will Not be sorry. Lots and lots of Great songs. I grew up with their music and there was no one like them and Freddie. No one will ever get anywhere near his talent. He coukd sing anything. Every genre of music, even opera.

    • @sharonhalliday3180

      He is also a great song writer and musician. He wrote this song, Bohemian Rhspsody and msny others and is in the song writers hall of fame, as are each of the other 3 band members as each has written #1 songs. Each member plays multiple instruments, all play guitar and piano/keyboards and only John, the bassist does not sing solo.

    • @TheBarkinFrog
      @TheBarkinFrog 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, and not to take anything away from Freddie, who was magnificently talented, but he did NOT have the longest vocal range of anyone. Freddie had a four octave range. So does Roger Taylor. Axle Rose has 6 octaves, and a singer you've never heard of, Tim Storm, has 10!

    Brian May was vote the best lead guitarist last year, beating out Eddie Van Helen, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page! Give credit to the drummer too. Roger Taylor, singing while belting it out on the drums is not easy. The bass guitarist is John Deacon and he has come up with some of the most iconic riffs ever. You’ve probably heard them and don’t even know it. Another One Bites the Dust? And the riff from Under Pressure was stolen by Vanilla Ice for his song Ice Ice Baby and Queen sued him. That’s Deacy’s riff also. So check out those two songs live at Wembley. I’ve subscribed because you have me intrigued as to what is coming next week. If it’s Queen it will be good, because they were never bad

    There was no cocaine involved during the performance. Freddie and the rest of the band were actually, with a few exceptions, pretty professional and didn't take the stage high or drunk (unlike other bands thar had that reputatuon such as The Rolling Sttines, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin).
    It wasn't beneath Freddie to have a few drinks on stage, and even the notoriously quiet bassist John Deacon had a hidden mini bar, but again these guys were pretty dedicated performers.
    Freddie did dabble with coke a bit, probably in his Munich years (~ 1982-85 ) but it never interfered with his live performances, and in general his habit wasn't anywhere near as his other Rockstar contemporaries

    • @AnaReginaNica
      @AnaReginaNica 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Very well said. There are actually a ton of stories about it:
      According to Ratty (the roadie working for both Freddie and John), Freddie entered stage drunk just once, but his own shame was so big (just like his bandmates' fury) he never did that ever again.
      John drank on stage to relax his glossophoby (fear of stage, of all things), and is known for being a very graceful and happy dancer and even more skillfull with his bass, to the point of doing both on stage, while drunk, better than when he was sober (then, his natural shyness takes over).
      The guitarrist Brian May and the drummer Roger Taylor had a beer each, and then just water for the rest of the performance.
      They were all very profissional on stage, and in Brian's and Roger's case, they are until today.
      PS: Don't know if this one is truth, but there is a rumor about how the manager Paul Prenter specially detested Brian May because he was the only person there who never uses any drug (he drank some on his depressing Munich years and during his divorce process, but nothing else, not even cigars). That used to irritate Paul a lot.

    • @nancyblumberg4612

    Awesome reaction! This is just how Freddie always performed, he had an incredible amount of energy to do this for two hours, and Queen toured a lot. He always put all of his emotions into his performances. For even more energy check out Now I am Here live at Wembley 1986 th-cam.com/video/-iCY-noGbas/w-d-xo.html. People actually like this version of Somebody To Love more then the studio version, but the studio version is great as well. People often liked Queen's live performances more then the studio versions. Freddie always changed the songs and performances, he disliked doing the same thing over and over again. He wrote Somebody To Love as a tribute to Aretha Franklin, he loved Aretha Franklin and gospel music.
    Freddie was a very good piano player, all the members from Queen were multi instrumentalist.

Another great performance of this song is in Milton Keynes 1982. So energetic & powerful. Last year Queen was voted best live rock band of all time!! The guitarist is Dr Brian May. He has a PhD in Astrophysics and his roadie said that he never did drugs or even smoked. Queen partied after the show, not before. They were very professional and wanted the fans to see a great show. Freddie is known to have done coke at clubs from the late 70s to mid 80s but never before a show or when recording. In an interview he said he took some drugs once while recording and came back the next day and it was such crap he said he would never get high while recording again! I noticed the video skipping about 6 times or so. Not sure what happened but you're missing bits of the video. The Montreal concert is one of their best. Save Me, Sheer Heart Attack and Dragon Attack are other great songs from this concert.

He connected with audiences like no one else. Brian May on guitar is the man! Every member of that band wrote incredible songs and it is TOTALLY WORTH GOING DOWN THE QUEEN RABBIT HOLE! From what I heard, freddie was just naturally hyper. Tho he did dabble in coke at parties, he was very professional when it came to music. He sometimes drank throughout the show and copped a good buzz sometimes as they went but I don't think he did drugs before the show. Freddie just simply WAS MUSIC. His energy just leaped out of him. I really do think he has an angelic quality about him. Childlike sometimes. Innocent even. He kept that spirit up until the day he died. Making music till his body wouldn't let him anymore. Freddie had a strength and grace about him that is rare. He was a shy, quiet person offstage. but onstage, he was a beast.

    • @imweakfordeaky

      Most of those cups on the piano are honey and lemon water to soothe his throat (and an occasional sip of beer, but not too much)
      Many concerts, his “champagne toast” to the audience was actually water, because champagne bubbles would interfere with his voice.
      (John Deacon was known to keep a mini-bar just off-stage though, and he would get a tidy buzz going)

    • @bbbfst
      @bbbfst 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Freddie didn't cop a good buzz during concerts. Watch a full show and you'll see he takes small sips every so often, sometimes of beer, but mostly of a honey/water/lemon combination to sooth his throat.

      @@bbbfst I have watched full concerts. I said he sometimes drank. I don't say it was heavy. And there were some times he did get drunk but you're right. It was mostly water or honey for his throat. Thanks for correcting me and being the information police. Feel better now?

    Awesome reaction! As others have commented, Freddie did dabble a little on coke from time to time but he was a professional when it came to live shows. He would take occasional sips of beer during shows but also drank nonalcoholic beverages to help south his throat. John Deacon, the bassist, had a mini-bar set up behind his amplifiers and would have drinks through the course of shows but always was on point with his playing. You are now ready for more live Queen performances. Freddie Mercury was known for his energy on stage and the ability to engage with his audience. You ought to check out “Under Pressure” live from Wembley in 1986. You will see him at top form interacting with an audience of nearly 80,000.

    Freddie Mercury had one of the most recognisable voices in pop and rock
    history. But just how good was the frontman's vocal power? While
    Freddie's speaking voice fell in the baritone range, he delivered most
    songs in the tenor range. His known vocal extended from bass low F (F2) to soprano high (F6).

    altho a rock band, Queen's music actually covers many genres. Dr. Brian May, the guitarist, is AMAZING! It's Roger Taylor, the drummer, who is doing those great back up vocals here. Freddie's voice Is strong, clear & sharp - and when you delve more into Queen you'll hear Freddie sing sweetly in falsetto in some songs or pure & lovely in others like "You Take My Breath Away" Live At Hyde Park, or belt it out in "Stone Cold Crazy", etc etc

    A rule of thumb for Queen videos is that Live performances trump the Official videos. There are a few exceptions. The Official videos for BoRap, Stone Cold Crazy, Don't Stop Me Now are the ones to see, maybe even Seven Seas of Rhye. But the Holy Grail of Queen is the 1985 Live Aid performance, considered to be among the best Rock performances ever. Audience size: look for Queen Rock in Rio 1985 - Love Of My Life.

    This is Freddie's favorite of the songs he wrote, he wrote it in the spirit of Aretha Franklin who he truly admired but nevee got the opportunity to sing with her. The band was pretty focused on their shows and always putting on the best show possible so there would have been no blow, crack or any other drug before a show. As a rule, Freddie didn't even drink while he was touring. The few times he had throat issues, he would slam back a tall vodka and then hit the stage but for the most part, the partying happened after the shows.

    Geniuses and God's of music don't need cocaine or any other help of that nature.

    Freddie Mercury was the best pure vocalist and performer to ever live. Roger Taylor’s backup vocals and drums are on point and Brian May killed it on guitar as did John Deacon on guitar too. Queen was a supergroup that was so talented individually but just amazing altogether. They were ten times better live than in studio which was already awesome. Long live Queen!

    @BROADBAND, the names of the members of Queen are: Freddie Mercury, lead guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor, and bassist John Deacon.

    Everybody in Queen was classically trained. Freddie Mercury was a God in the UK where they're from and paid him tribute at the 2012 Olympics. Freddie could sing in 4 different octaves and in my opinion in the greatest entertainer of all time...RIP Freddie ❤

    Check out Queen’s set at Live Aid. Over 100,000 people, the world’s best groups, and Queen stole the show. Freddie had that crowd in the palm of his hand. Radio Gaga was amazing.

    They did a study on his voice back then, he wanted his overbite fixed but when they studied his voice to see if it would change his delivery they said he had one of the widest vocal ranges ever recorded and his overbite aided in that. They said it would likely really effect his range if he fixed it so he was to afraid to do it. Amazing, saw it on a documentary.

    Glad your looking into Queen and enjoyed the performance
    But I wasn't expecting you to follow that up with yeah must have been doing coke
    Freddie was much quieter in private but wanted to put on a show and hated the idea of just standing there and sing
    Freddie did art then graphic design
    He designed the Queen Crest as well as suggested their name
    He was the more creative and visionary one of the group

    In spite of what you think, the genius and perfection of this band’s performances were NOT fueled by cocaine. They were incredibly gifted musicians who avoided any connection with drugs in their professional life. That was not the image they wanted, and they needed no chemical assistance. They all were multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, and vocalists, with the exception of John Deacon, playing base guitar, who said he couldn’t sing (don’t know if that was true). Freddie’s “weird movements “ were his own choreography, and he actually did practice with the London Royal Ballet. He was good enough to join with them but too original to dance to any other choreographer but himself! There lare a lot of books out there about Queen, and especially Freddie. I’ve read most of them - you might enjoy learning more about them because the more you know about them the more you will appreciate how wonderful they were.

    The high notes come from the drummer Roger Taylor- Freddie said the dog whistle-. All band members played multiple instruments. Freddie, Brian and Roger all sang. All four members are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for individual #1 hit songs- no other band has done that. The lead guitarist is Brian May- Guitar Magazine in 2020 rated him as # 1 guitarist in Rock. He is also an Astrophysicist and sometimes confers with NASA. All are college educated
