Your videos have been so encouraging to me. I’ve always been reluctant to service/ repair my power tools, simply because electronics baffle me. I’m a carpenter/ builder by trade and when my electrician starts talking about ,” ohms , watts, amps,..etc,..” my brain fogs over. I see his lips moving but don’t understand a thing he’s talking about. 😳 Your teaching method is great! You makes mistakes and happily show them. It gives carpenters/ anyone like me hope that we can have a go and fix something without blowing it and ourselves up. Good job.

Thanks to your videos, I have fixed my own Dewalt belt sander to replace the lead, fixed a discarded Dewalt reciprocating saw, and fixed a Ryobi orbital sander that someone discarded. I also know that Makita is the brand to get because you can get parts for it. Your work here is greatly appreciated!

Good as new. I never cared for the belt clip , I always worried about accidentally scratching furniture setting the tool down.

First thing i remove when i have a new Drill. I simply don't need it because 90% of my work takes place on the ground.

I has a similar accident with a Bosch except the chuck too the full impact onto concrete. The case was fine but the gearbox was toast. Luckily, Bosch was offering a non-questions asked 5 year warranty when I purchased it and another tool and as such I got a free replacement. :)

Great job, I know people who would have just thrown that out. You're right about crooked stickers 😁, in fact anything askew like shelves, pictures, tiles etc. seems to touch a nerve and I feel compelled to fix it.

That's funny a few weeks ago, I found a dcf886 broken at the handle & ran over (smashing battery holder) on the side of the road at an intersection. I'm sure someone left it on the back of their utility box truckbed or on a trailer fender or something and it fell off after hitting one of the many potholes marking our wonderful Buffalo streets following the winter beating! Looks like it is banged up pretty well but I bet with a new case & a few wire repairs it would go together & work fine. I was tempted to jumper battery wire to a battery to see if it spins or even acknowledges having a battery connected to it at all? Don't want to fry anything electrical that may have broken wires crossed\shorted out, so its just sitting in a bin for possible parts if needed. I have several 886, 887's & an 886 swapped to 3/8" anvil - which is remarkably easy to do, order anvil, open impact(hardest part is getting clip out of 1/4" bit reciever), and change out the anvils, then put back together and use your 3/8ths" impact(or chrome) sockets to fix you vehicle. Always wanted a friction ring anvil gun instead of using the adapters with sockets which rob the power\blows, but didn't want to buy one cause i have 1/2" dcf899 & dcf 921 already, just needed a 3/8ths model. Its so easy to do to. If you want one for sockets do it - bought a newer used 886 for $40 @ pawn shop a couple yrs ago too. 👍🏻👌🏻🛠️🔧🗜️

Dean, after watching your videos i decided to investigate why my impact driver had stopped working. Turns out it has stripped the teeth off of two spur gears ⚙️. After washing it out how much grease should I put back in? Great content as always

Only a few pea sized amounts. They take very little grease

Couldn't get a new clamshell for my DC825 Type 10 as they're obsolete, mine had cracked both sides where the lugs on the gearbox are held in place by the casing. I took it apart and super glued it back together two days ago, we'll see if it holds.

I think they also sell some of the stickers, at least the ones you cut whenever you open one up, the one behind the motor and the 1 2 3 sticker on the speed selector.

If you wanted to go further you could stamp or engrave the year into the new case where the battery goes.

I see you only put this video up 1 hour ago and yesterday I just bought a used Black & Decker DR202 Type 1 corded drill for $5 that works and the level bubble plastic is there, but maybe the fluid leaked out and I can't find that replacement part anywhere online maybe I could put fluid in myself and seal it up or you have another idea.

Because it doesn't affect the operation of the tool or the look (as it is hidden inside that lovely new case) - he has many more tools to fix so why spend time on something that does not bring in extra money ? He does clean some tools with dust etc but that one did not look very dirty.
