Gideon R during low speed manoeuvres you never, ever want to utilize your front break ESPECIALLY if you’re turning to the right otherwise you’ll drop the bike. At higher speeds, yes you want to utilize both the front and the back brakes.

Indeed. I run my 2018 Ninja 650 at the track and can keep up with most riders just fine. It won't do 140mph, but it handles the turns just as well as most supersports ridden by normal riders. The key to riding well is for the rider to have skill; unskilled riders on supersports are all over the place, and they go like crazy when the road is straight. Take them to a canyon and they're slower than my grandma. The 650 will do everything you ask it to do if you've got the skill to ride it well.

First review I've seen with Suzy. And it was good! The adjustable screen bit was genuinely funny. I like fact that you're kind of awkward "not ninja... ..ninjitsu... raaahhh!" - but sometimes I think it expresses itself as under-confidence: "if you get what I mean... does that even make sense?" I find it all endearing but we also want to have authority from the reviewer when we're watching. I guess this is a hard balance to get - definitely don't lose that endearing element! However when getting into the technical details it was clear that Suzy knew her stuff. And I really appreciated the honesty about things you didn't like. ...I hope this comment was adequate :')

I got one of these a few weeks ago and they are very easy to ride and un-intimidating. You must have been unlucky to drop it! The only thing I would say is that it's not as sporty as it or its name suggests. The bars are quite upright and the riding position comfortable. The exhaust is quite pleasant really if a little quiet. The bike handles very well, although the rear shock is a bit bouncy.Entertaining video by the way!

You probably dropped the bike because of your height/inseam. Tip-toe? As for rider position, at 6'2" I'm sure the bike is very upright for me and my long reach. I've owned the original 2006 and sat on the 2017. Suspension and brakes are where you need to plop money down on this bike. Suspension-wise in the front I'd start with baby steps. Cheaper that way. Start by replacing the 'petty much stock' 5 weight oil with 20 weight. Personally, I use 30 weight. If that's enough to notice and correct things then stop there. I usually put in Progressive fork springs. Race Tech has complete innards you can swap but that's just one step less pricey than say a complete Ohlins replacement. Also, a fork brace and steering damper help a lot with light weight bikes.
My main complaint is brakes. I hate ABS. It's just another thing that goes bad on a bike and then you spend $600-$1,000 replacing a unit, which SOMEHOW always go bad out of warranty. They don't really have NON-ABS. The rear has ABS regardless of what model you buy. I like being able to lock the rear for quick direction changes and emergency maneuvers. No can do here, and rear ABS is useless in dirt, gravel, sand... etc. Anything but straight line really. Be willing to bet though that there's a fuse you can pull but I'm sure it will always have the ABS warning light on if you do that.

I find it hard to believe Kawasaki is only able to coax about 67 horsepower out of this 649 engine. Euro4 sure. But in race guise, they've been cranking around 90 hp from this exact engine in the flat-trackers and the small displacement racers for Isle of Man TT. Would it be too much to ask for Kawasaki to get a solid 75 hp and still be Euro4 compliant?
The Ninja 650 is just getting to be such a powder puff. I think even the Ninja 500R was more aggressive in it's day. So we have the 649 twin putting out a mushy 67 hp. Then we have the 636cc i-4 cranking out north of 120 hp. Comon' Kawasaki!
And of course we cannot forget the "Japanese thing" of putting the most basic *UTTER TRASH* suspension/braking components on anything that doesn't have a 12,000 dollar sticker or isn't called racing in it's name. Damper rod forks? This is 2017! Didn't they use damper rods back in 1960?
You want accessibility, Kawasaki? Put some 400's and 500's on the market and leave the 650 twin as a viable option for those tired of supersports breaking their backs and straining their necks. Give us at least 75 hp in a twin.
And make a 270° crank while your at it. Those don't sound like wet farts.

Nice review, looks like a cool bike but not enough power for open roads I guess.

This was a pretty average review. I ride the 2016 Ninja 650 ER6F 71 HP. the sound of the exhaust is underwhelming but once again you're riding a parallel twin cylinder. 0-60 in 3.2 so saying the bike isn't powerful enough for highway is a downright lie. I hit triple digits pretty quickly. 2-3rd gear has plenty of power you really feel the pull from the engine. The bike has an upright seating position i've ridden up to 4 hours with no pain. it's a great bike I commute to school / work and tour on the weekends. Take this journalist review with a grain of salt after all do serious motorcyclists drop their bike in a parking lot? No. Im upset she didn't mention the difference between the 16 and 17 model. 40 lb drop in chassis and she didn't even comment on how it handles in the twistys then again how could she know she didn't open the throttle to see what the bike could do. They need to review this bike on a track to see how it truly handles

Shane Michael Hahaha so basically, you don't like the review because she didn't think it was amazing... and that you have the older one (which is worse)? Whether a bike is powerful enough is down to opinion - some (like you) will be satisfied with it and some won't - that's just the way it is... at no point does she say it's slow. Just face it, it's an ok bike for people who want an ok bike - it does what it says on the tin, it's fun, but it's nothing special. Oh and dropping your bike doesn't instantly disqualify you from being a "real biker" - don't be a moron. :--)

Michael hodgkinson, I don't like the review because it's a bad review of a product. Power Drift just did a review of this bike and I encourage you to watch it because its an honest review by a skilled motorcyclist. Secondly, you can't judge a bike unless you've rode it so stop talking out of your buttocks buddy. Third, If you ride motorcycles and don't know that hitting the front brakes while turning is a major mistake you should probably have paid more attention during your motorcycle safety class.

Fer way I wasn't defending her riding ability, but reviews are opinions; she has a different one to you, doesn't make he wrong. A good friend of mine bought the same model you have (his first bike) and I HAVE ridden that - it's a nice enough bike, but just like this and every review I've watched says... it's nice, you can have fun on it, but it really isn't that exciting. If you want to see if I know how to ride a bike, please feel free to check out my Instagram account - Hodge996. (I'm nothing special, but I do ok)

love my 650 but if you're only getting it to learn on and eventually upgrade to buy a 600 just go ahead and get the 600. New model looks really aggressive but the power just isn't there. Comfortable to ride and has decent low and midrange power but don't drive like a jackass and you can learn on a 600 then when you get the hang of it you'll be shipping it around like no one's business and not have to go through a new learning curve when you finally get the 600, also the 650 sounds a bit like an underpowered lawn mower or "wet fart". But this chick really dropped the bike, not sure how long she's been riding for but if she dropped this probably safe to assume she's dropped about every other one she's been on.

This poor review should not sway anyone from this bike. I have the 16 model fantastic bike 0-60 3.2 seconds. you can commute or tour on it. all around Great bike for responsible beginners or seasoned riders. Also as for exhaust what can you expect its a parallel twin after all
