Great band with numerous top songs, most of which have memorable twin guitar solos . . . Loved their 70s output but never saw them live until 2003 ish (Andy Powell's version of the band) at the Opera House, Newcastle (England). Wasn't sure what to expect so many years after Argus, especially when the opening band were a bit rough. But they went off, the lights went down and minutes later, out of the darkness rose an amazingly smooth, tight sound, from this rolls royce of a band. Ben Granfelt was playing co-lead with AP at the time, and they played all the old classics note perfect . . . One of the best concerts I've been at . .
This song is off their "Argus" album. As a kid who grew up listening to his older brother's copy, do yourself a favor and go add it to your collection, it's a great album!
What a great reaction to a timeless masterpiece. So glad you enjoyed it , they have so many great songs . Phoenix , Warrior , The King Will Come , Way of the World Pilgrim & Lifeline to name but a few . Do check out the stunning live version of Blowin Free 7min 59 seconds .Fantastic guitar work & a great song . Enjoy the ride my friend
Excellent review Nick. The song is timeless, originally from the 1972 album Argus. The video is from the late 80s when the original lineup reunited for a short period. The band continue to tour extensively, alas with only one original member, Andy Powell. If you get the chance then please give the other song I mentioned a go. th-cam.com/video/AhTUSp40Ma0/w-d-xo.html (just in case you mislaid the link 🤣🤣).
Great reaction! Andy Powell AND Ted Turner are amazing guitarists! Pioneers of the twin guitar attack! My favourite guitarist of all time is without a doubt Rory Gallagher, though. Saw him live in 1984 and he blew my mind...and ears. Loudest concert I ever witnessed...and I've seen them all! Unparallelled live. High octane energy combined with incredible guitarwork. That is, he WAS energetic until his health declined. My "rabbit hole" guitar solo of his (there are MANY to choose from) is probably Shadow Play from Lorient 1994, just months before his untimely death. Here he is, overweight, bloated, can't move. Voice gone. Liver gone....(such a contrast to his heydays in the 70s). It is both disturbing AND moving to watch it , because he gives his all. Link here: th-cam.com/video/nsUKWFkmRu0/w-d-xo.html . At the 2:55 mark, when he says "bon soir, bon nuit, merci" , it's like he says a final goodbye to his loving fans...and then he launches into that FANTASTIC solo, so melodic and dramatic. Fluent and beautiful with that hard rock edge to boot. WOULD love it if you reacted to it. And, wouldn't mind if you did some more Wishbone ash either. Saw them as well back in the day. Love the band.
Love the Argus album - this song really needs to be heard in the context of the rest of the album. Saw them perform live at Reading Festival in 1975.
