Love 7.62x39. What’s sad is it’s so stigmatized. The pressure in the round is perfect. It’s almost like the .45 of the rifle world. Even small rifle cartridges (243, 270) and the 30-30 also just has way, way more gunpowder and pressure than the 7.62x39...

I sprung for the FN barrel model as well as their upgraded BCG and trigger. Added a sling, Streamlight, and Steiner 1-4 LPVO on it and the gun is great for what he needed.

What I like about PSA. They listen to the market. If issues arise they listen to complaints and fix their product, for the most part. PSA doesn't make "nice" guns or junk guns, and I don't think they make guns that are "just as good" either. They make guns that are good enough. Their guns are not "valuable" but they have a lot of value. These are things I look for because I treat my guns like tools. They get spray painted, modified and accessorized I would feel bad doing that to a nice, expensive gun. Everyone makes fun of PSA as being "for the poors". Frankly, I would rather die with the "poors" then live with the "rich". The "poors" are the "salt of the earth", the "working class" they need their guns to be rugged, and reliable, not nice. The "poors" are the guys that need to be armed in this country. The rich can defend themselves with their pocket book and hide behind the laws they make. The "poors" are the ones who need guns to defend themselves, and they need guns that are "good enough".

Granted ease of attaching accessories is light years ahead of what it use to be so that's not a deal breaker. I'm also just more of an AR15 guy so the few training courses I've taken were with them not the AK... It's in no way a bad choice for defense especially now and days but it's just not for me. I love shooting them, collecting them, and upgrading them but that's where it ends for me. Take care!!

    • @DanielBoone337
      @DanielBoone337 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@easybreezy3084 it all depends I like SBR's and started playing around in the NFA world a long time ago this also isn't a primary gun for me even though it could be for sure. I would say if the AK-P is your primary gun I would leave it in pistol configuration. To my knowledge all you have to do if you want to leave your state and keep it in a backpack is have your ccw permit and you're good to go but if you SBR it you have to prefile paperwork with every state you plan on going through letting them know you're coming through their state with a SBR... When I'm out and about in my state I keep a backpack with a suppressed SBR in it when I leave my state for work or vacation the SBR comes out and a pistol goes in. That's mainly because I'm not going to take a chance with not telling them and end up in jail or having my gun confiscated and I'm not exactly comfortable telling them what I'm traveling with either so again if it's a primary it's just a headache that can be avoided leaving things in a pistol configuration... That's kind of a long answer but I know not everyone is a collector or full fledged gun junkie like myself so it's not exactly practical for someone to buy 2 pistols, put the same accessories on them, and SBR 1 of them... Anyways that how I look at things hopefully it helps...

On that note I have Mag dumped dozens of full auto AKs in Iraq and Afghanistan, and even used then in combat. I guaranted those AKs weren’t high end and not to the quality of the PSAK, yet my foreign counterparts (comrades 😂) and I trusted Them.

Rob Ski of AKOU: "I was born and raised behind the “Iron Curtain”, so by default, at very early age, I was exposed to AK rifles platform.
I’m still learning and discovering new things about AK operations, tactical deployment and manufacturing methods on daily basis.
When AK is our main focus, we don’t discriminate at AKOU! We love all firearms equally!
In USA, I was forged as Infantryman at Ft. Benning Sand Hill. I served as “line unit” infantryman, Squad Designated Marksmen and I’m still in service as Sniper Team Leader.
I was lucky to be exposed to wide range of awesome weapons. I would like to share with you my experiences, and some tips and tricks.
I’m by no means, an “expert”…I’m rather an enthusiast, who is trying to learn as much as he can, about his beloved subjects…
Union is growing and expanding. Expect to see more rifle types going through the “grinder” soon!"
Yes, I would definitely have drinks with this guy. My first intro to him and I binged all his content. I have a lot of AKOU merch and some gear he recommended on my rifle. Good video on your part as well. Enjoying the content and keep up the great work!

Garand Thumb had very good results for his PSA 103 review (as did AK Operator's Union) and he had very questionable results shown in his PSA 74 review, (probably) caused by metallurgy differences used in the new 5.45x39 PSA models, basically.

Rob Ski is Polish-American. After serving as an infrantryman in the Polish military, he and his family emigrated to the US and he joined the US Army as an infantryman and paratrooper, which I believe he's been a reservist since.
AK's aren't that hard to figure out once you break your brain of "they're all AK47" just like "they're all AR15". There just happens to be a little more history and development than the minor tweaking the AR did for the past 50 years. AK prototype to first run of milled receivers to mass produced stamped metal receivers. AKM tweaked some manufacturing and produced even more. US went to the intermediate 5.56x45 NATO cartridge so the USSR developed their own intermediate 5.45x39 cartridge. With collapse of the Soviet Union, the AK manufacturers (Saiga, VEPR, Kalashnikov Concern, etc) started developing the 100-series of AK's not only for military but civilian and export market. Now you enter the 2000s, and Russia is trying to catch up to modern military capabilities and start developing the 200-series of AK which brings us to the AK-12, 15, and 19 (5.45, 7.62, and 5.56 chamberings respectively) and finding out how abysmal that attempt was. I suggest 9HoleReviews on the AK12 and Spetznaz AK74 modernization videos for more details.

I hooked up on a GF5, put a KnS adj piston in it. Calm the action down, you’ll have less wear. We all know they are overgassed especially suppressed. Tool-less adjustable, less felt recoil. I love it, I don’t see any odd wear in mine, as a matter of fact looks like hardly any wear. I have my own range at home so I do run my guns more than average
Look forged trunnion - bolt - carrier and CHF chrome lined FN barrel? I’m sorry, even if you had to do a little work to it, to get that solid of parts, hands down best bang for your buck. I don’t care what anybody says, palmetto GF5 is the best AK from domestic and most foreign.
I bought the builder kit where I put my own furniture, fire control group and mags. Don’t care for side folder, (I prefer underfolder) so went with Magpul triangle with added 3/4 riser, works perfect in conjunction with a Midwest Industry full rail side mount which I run a Swampfox lpvo 1x8 on an aero precision mount. Overall great weight, great rifle and I would use in a class any day of the week.

PSA is good for bringing AFFORDABLE firearms to the masses and that helps to expand the 2A community. I can get behind that but I can’t get behind buying one!! To me I appreciate the quality, added features and QC that goes with higher end firearms. To me I will not own a firearm that can not be considered a duty use/duty grade firearm that has high QC and durability as well as a strong reputation and proven track record. That being said I’m sure there are SOME decent PSA riffles that COULD pass the test but the old saying you get what you pay for usually applies. Again they are great for expanding the community. Good stuff guys!! Channel is growing strong!!

To be fair, the arsenals/zastavas/whatever are probably better just in terms of getting a rifle that works right out of the box, but the PSA AKs are good. That said, if they're going to have a problem, it's going to be the firing pin. And buying a new one and switching it out right off the bat is annoying. But hey, not that big of a deal. Their rifles in the 762 by the 39 are good to go. And often easier to work on (change shit out) than other rifles.

So the wear or "break-in" process on PSA AK's is a little strange. From what I've seen and also in my own experience, PSA likes to let the bolt and trunnion smash into each other and at a certain point the wear stops and hopefully the AK will stay reliable. Basically the headspace is on the tighter end from the factory. I personally don't think this is a good way to manufacture AK's and this is why they are subpar in my opinion. The problem is that most people that buy these AK's don't shoot them enough to ever really see issues and PSA probably knows this. It's a shame too because PSA has the potential and tooling to make a great, solid AK platform. They have a lot of irons in the fire and they need to slow down and basically master the process of not building subpar AK's and focus on proper manufacturing.

Ak will shoot even if it worse assembled. Here in former USSR republics, main point of the AK over AR is the price and durability of the barrel. The price for saiga mk 033 (ak 105) from izhmash is about 500$ and will last over 12000-15000 rounds. The cheapest ar is about 1000$ which will serve with black barrel about 5000 rounds.

Not one FTF, FTE or other failure, all OEM mechanical parts, normal wear marks for the round count, remains about a 2 MOA gun. No go gauge every 500rd, chamber is still in spec. Value for the money, I’m definitely a fan of their best offerings- they no longer produce the AK-E, but the GF5 is basically the same with a different gas/front sight block.

Therefore their price to manufacture is lower then American companies, over time and as more US made AKs are produced and make there way to the market the manufacturing price should come down. Definitely a fan of PSA just because they're putting a shit load of guns in the hands of the common man. Yes their QC can be questionable at times but they will do their best to rectify it should you have problems. Gotta remember its a small company based in South Carolina that has basically had to vertically integrate their entire product line in a short period of time while also maintaining a reasonable development schedule. The AKV is a great 9mm PCC and the AK-P is a solid AK pistol. A tip for the brace, thumb on the top of the rear trunnion adapter and forefinger underneath and just push-pull should release it no problem.

The pistol is a bit guccied out with higher end parts, but the upper and lower have a perfect fit with zero rattle and are 7075 aluminum. To me, those are the most important aspects to build off of. Just wanted to clarify a few things about the AK100 series that you all were talking about.
I guess its easiest to start from the begining. The AK47 is infact a very rare gun. They usually are refered to as the type 1. Than there was the type 2 and than the type 3. After the Type 3 came the AKM. The AKM is the stamped reciever AK that we all know and love, and is the one most people refer to as an "ak47" after the AKM and a few different variations (AKMS (folding stock), AKMN (Night Vision aka siderail), etc.)
Next came the AK74 which was chambered in 5.45x39. The AK74 got many models (AKs74, AKs74N, AK74n, AKs74u, etc.) Eventually they made the AK74m. The 74m was a M odernized version. Came with a collapsible full size stock, among other little detail changes.
The AK100 series followed after the AK74m and is technically the second modernization of the AK47 or a revamp of the AKM. It took a lot of design traits from the AK74m and standardized it across the entire AK line. While confusing it goes like this. AK74m is the "AK100." The AK101 is the 74m in 556. The AK102 is the 12" shortened 74m with combo FSGB in 556 (these smaller models were made to replace the 74u) the AK103 is a 74m Full size in 762x39. The AK104 is the 762x39 12" with FSGB. The 105 is the 5.45 12" FSGB. The way I remember it is its goes from smallest to largest caliber, but sandwiched between the 5.45 rifles (ak100, AK105) the 106 and 107 are guns with specialised recoil gas systems.
Anyways, I dont believe any of the 100 series were designed for export but instead were designed to be user upgrades. Much like an M16a4 is to an M16a1. The AK103 is the same thing to an AK47 type 1.
I hope this helps anyone who may have been confused about AKs and their naming system over the years

Inverse universe we live in now compared to 2003....AK's are expensive and AR-15's can be cheap...... I miss the ammo prices of old.

Pull up on the pistol grip w the gun upside down and push down on the triangle brace and folding should be easier

Come on guy don’t talk shit about a WASR, Cugir guns have one of the best reputations in the AK community. A WASR is a better choice than any mass produced American AK. Obviously there are low production boutique shops here that do a better job than a Wasr, but a WASR is as good as it gets for under 1000 bucks

    • @gregb1469

@@TCraig00 he specifically stated that PSA is better quality than a Wasr, but he also stated that he’s an AK noob. You need good trunions and good metallurgy on the bolt and carrier. Sure a PSA gun might have better bells and whistles for maybe a hundred more dollars but the PSA guts aren’t what you use to start a good quality AK with and the WASR is. I don’t give a flying fuck about furniture, trigger group, muzzle device. All that shit is going to get replaced anyway. The metal on the trunions, receiver, bolt and carrier all all that matter on an all. For Christ sake they use really Gucci barrels in these gf5’s and 103’s the FN barrels are good to go, but putting it in a 50/50 trunion is a waste of money in my opinion.
Good guts are what matter in an AK. If it’s got sub standard guts it’s a plinker. If shit hits the fan I’d grab either of my Cugir guns before anything else in my gun safe.

My brace folder did the same thing but after trying a different folding mech, I had no issue locking and unlocking with the button. I can’t tell if they did that on purpose to make sure that it was plenty tight with no wobble. I had no issues with the brace’s hinge being too tight to break so maybe you just got a particularly tight one.

Gentlemen just grab the pistol grip for leverage with your right hand.. and grab the base of the 1913 adapter with your left hand. And you have to pull 90 degrees up.. lol I’ve personally struggled initially, pretty sure everyone does..

Zastava, Fabrica Broni (FB Radom) and Fox used to make great affordable AKs. Their prices have gone $400+ cause of Brandon's silly senile games.

I treat psa as a platform. Get the reciver and such and upgrade form there.
Let's me try out platforms like an ak that I don't have much time on. If I end up liking it I can slap some better internals at it to have a better rifle, then move on to getting a "big boy" ak, ar, or whatever.

Some People really can’t afford to spend a few hundred dollars on a Firearm and that’s after saving up. So, are you saying People are better off not buying a Firearm at all until they can buy a “ High End Firearm “ which they can’t afford? For poor people it isn’t “ Good Enough “ but it’s “ All I can afford and Better than Nothing “ .
