      Bafang is the most sought after electric bike conversion kit. In the same wattage, the 500W 48V BBS02 Mid Drive Motor Kit costs 500$ + 400$ for a 48V battery. And it takes roughly 1-2h to install (so, the idea it to keep it permanently affixed). Their product can me mounted/dismounted in 60 sec and it looks like it includes a battery (probably a 48V too). So, for 1000$ it's a good price. That thing might even store energy every time you use the break. That's a good product but the sharks had no idea about the electric bike conversion kit market.

    You can easily get a 750 watt motor bike for almost $1000 and top speed usually is around 28 mph for most bikes with that wattage. Comes with a LED screen to tell you how fast your going and what gears you are shifting in. It's just a tire with a motor. People back in the days would use lawnmower motors to get around for under 50 bucks. The sharks were smart for not investing in a wheel for the price of a E-Bike.

    I think the truly absurd thing about this product is that it uses the friction of a wheel against a rim to transfer power. There’s so much loss between those surfaces and so much extra friction when not engaging the throttle. They could have at least added teeth or something to the wheel and rim to effectively make them geared, but regardless there are already so many all in one wheel swap kits already on the market that do the same thing with hub motors. Huge dud

      To be fair those little hub motors you toss in the back are more annoying and difficult to install than just slapping a new wheel on and calling it a day. But 950 dollars is absolutely absurd, idk how they were so successful on kickstarter. It shouldn't be more than 500 at the VERY most. If you really want people to be interested, a solid reasonable price is actually around 300 tbh

      at what cost?

    • @lakshmanb5604
      @lakshmanb5604 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Jocelyn The reason for that is the type of motor they use. BLDC motors provide low torque but high rpm. The loss in efficiency of using friction is compensated by the increase in efficiency of using a BLDC motor over a brushed DC motor. So I would say they are not too different in terms of efficiency and no BLDC motor cant be used with gears because of the way the motor works and forcibly using it with gears anyway will lower its efficiency.

    Retrofitting what we already have would drastically increase our goal to decrease emissions. They should invest car tires that can do the same thing. Imagine a front wheel drive car where the back wheels are replaced with electric ones to help push the car from a stop. Now it's a hybrid, gas milage goes up, and there are literally tens of thousands of cars and even small trucks that could do this tomorrow if the product was there.

    This is a great product. I’m surprised nobody in the business or the sharks saw the licensing opportunity here. If these guys have patented this technology, the most clear play here is to sell their tires directly to large bike manufacturers or let them build their tech through licensing. Literally will save any bike manufacturer mountains of money in development costs, hours spent developing, and everything else. The worlds largest bike maker can become the worlds largest electric bike maker overnight.

      @syednaqvi2740 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@darya7081 true, the price is the major pain point here, but with a licensing deal that’s not their problem. They just sell the rights to make the wheel to large bike makers, and than the bike makers work on actually making it and getting it made at a certain cost for themselves.
      But I’ve learned since I made this comment that this tech already exists and there are much cheaper wheels that do the same or similar thing, so prob not that valuable lol
