Who’s going to look after your furbabies, when your off on your travels?????. It’s inspiring watching your channel on your campervan conversion, I have binged watched all your vlogs on the “ how to do”sections, especially the shower area and the air vent instal as well.
Another great video guys, your attention to detail is to be applauded. Looking forward to the making of the '3D things'. Take care and stay safe guys xxx
Another great video thanks. Loved the use of the rolling pin to take out the air bubbles. Who needs to spend a fortune on fancy tools when you have a house of gadgets that will do the job. Your house is really starting to come together and I can't wait for the next episode. 👍
Really enjoy you channel. It is impressive how well you two work together, inspiring! Keep on and enjoy the journey. Love the cat. Wish you well each and every day!
Hiya, cool, glad you're enjoying them! And those covers were actually already on our van when we bought it. Have just taken one off and the markings on the back are: BK31-V31148-NCW, ASC6A, PP-TD15. Presume the first one is the part number in case it helps you find it 😛
Your videos have been so helpful, thanks a million! Just wondering what you used for the floor edging? Haven't been able to find something similar... cheers!
Hello! Well done on your build and I really like your campervan build episodes too. I wonder if you had a link to the angle trim you used for the side and rear doors and how it is holding up? Thanks
Cheers! And sure, we went for this one in the Oak colour: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B079YS1TTM. It's pvc wood effect and holding up fine, no issues at all :)
Hey, sure we got it from www.flooringsuperstore.com/ and it was Imperia Hartford Oak. Not sure if they still have that style but there are others similar. We really like ours, although would possibly consider something with a slightly thicker wear layer as well as we've dinked ours in a few places from dropping tools on it during the build. Can't notice unless you know where to look though 😛
@@SelfBuiltStories Thanks for that 👍🏼 I’m slightly worried about the wear layer on some vinyls too, I’ve been looking at Altro flooring, they do a nice wood effect range now, trouble is the samples they send are like a postage stamp!haha Cheers
@@ourworldonwheels No worries, yeah the altro is pretty rugged, we used the wetroom one in our shower. Sure, we got it from www.flooringsuperstore.com/. We really like the design though if we were doing it again we'd possibly go with something slightly thicker/harder wearing one as we dented it in a few places accidentally dropping tools on it sometimes 😛
@@josh5917 We went for Imperia Hartford Oak, but it doesn't look like they have that one anymore. But all the others in the Imperia range look like they're 2.3mm thick, so would imagine that: www.flooringsuperstore.com/vinyl-flooring/vinyls-by-range/imperia. HTH 👍
My partner and I are building our own campervan conversion and absolutely love your channel! They're so informative and really great to watch! We were wondering where you got your vinyl floor from and whether you would recommend it? Thanks
Awesome, glad you like them! We got our vinyl from www.flooringsuperstore.com/. We really like the style of it, and was quite easy to work with. The only thing to bare in mind is it's fairly thin the one we went for, so we have a few dinks around it where we've dropped things while we've been working in the van 😜 They have quite a few different styles and options though, possibly we would go for one a tad thicker if we were doing it again
We drew around them as a template to get a good guide that let us cut near the line for the first pass, but wouldn't have wanted to cut them out right on that line as the old plywood pieces weren't a precise fit. To get it right up snuggly to the edge we did the final trim with it in place in the van 👍
Did you ever have a problem with the running track for the sliding door? I have had two snap on me and they were relatively straightforward to. repair but you have buried yours. How would you get to it if it needed replacing?
Hiya, nope we've had no issues with the sliding door so far. Not following about burying the track though? That's below the step area and above the door. We've actually just taken the door off a couple of times recently to pretty it up and didn't have any problems doing that or getting it back on 👍🏻
Well done! Flooring makes all the difference in making it feel like a regular room and not a cargo area.😍 I was suspecting you'd be carrying the vapour barrier from the floor across to the walls and roof? Or do you have something different planned? 🤔 Great to see your progress! 🙂👍 Best regards from Germany!🍀
Thanks! After a lot of deliberation we actually decided not to put in a vapour barrier, as we think moisture will always find cold surfaces in the van, especially as there are drain holes and things to the outside anyway. We're instead concentrating on air flow and dry heat to combat the moisture issues. Glad you enjoyed it!
Hiya, we made a lattice framework using 25mm battens and filled between them with 25mm PIR board insulation. We did it all in this video: th-cam.com/video/h8VjJX6-bcY/w-d-xo.html 👍
You could use carpet if you wanted though personally we wouldn't want to because yeah it would be a nightmare to clean and we prefer the styles you can get vinyl. We're in and out of ours a lot as we're building it and if it's been raining outside it doesn't take much to get muddy by the step, so you would have to be really good about taking your shoes off when you went inside if you had carpet. Vinyl is also really easy to sweep if there's small bits of stones and debris etc which happens a lot too, or just bits of twig and leaves that blow in from outside. We don't find it particularly cold with the vinyl, as under it is 12mm plywood and then 25mm of foam insulation. At the moment it's been sub zero outside but with the heater on we've been able to be in the van at a comfortable 20c walking around and with opening and closing the door repeatedly going in and out to get another tool that we forgot 😛👍
nice job, the carpet is nice. how's it holding up? the. vinyl looks good. as a tip it would have been much easer to have made a cardboard template first then cut the template. then pop the vinyl right in.
Thanks! The vinyl is holding up fine, although as it’s fairly thin it doesn’t like it if we drop our sharp tools on it..! 🙃 Using cardboard would have worked but we wouldn’t have had enough to cover the whole floor. We didn’t actually find it too bad the way we did it 👍🏻
How did you find removing and carpeting around the rear seal area? Was it full of that weird cream coloured glue stuff? I had to replace mine on the transit custom after a leak around one of the rear doors, and frankly I'm nervous removing it again for carpeting in case it leaks again. Great vids, keep us updated!
Yeah the edge of the metal where the trim seal sits was lined with that sticky glue, but it was still very easy to take off. We tried not to carpet right up to the edge so as not to cause issues when the trim went back on. We marked the middle of each 'side' of trim both on the trim and on the van before we took it back off, so we could seat it back in the same place afterwards and bash it in securely with a mallet. Then we just used some plastic trim tools to slide the edges of the carpet under once it was back on to make it a neat finish. So far we haven't had any leaks and it's been subjected to quite a bit of heavy rain since we did it, so I think we're ok there, fingers crossed it stays that way! 🙂 And thanks, there will be more to come for sure!
How's the spray adhesive under the sheet vinyl holding up? Any bubbling/shifting/wrinkling/etc.? I'm about to lay sheet vinyl in my Transit, and I'm thinking about gluing it, but I'm doing the conversion single-handedly and I'm trying to find the right balance between ease of installation and the "standard" way of doing things.
Hey, it's holding up just fine, no issues at all. Has stayed nicely stuck down so far, not coming up anywhere and we haven't noticed any wrinkling or anything like that. We walk around on it a lot too. The only problem we have is we always have loads of tools in use and inevitably drop some on it by mistake sometimes 😅
@@SelfBuiltStories what type of spray adhesive did you use? @@danielramli7144 Hiya, haha cheers :) Yeah it's holding up perfectly fine for us, no sign of it peeling up anywhere. We used a few cans of the adhesive that was recommended by the place we got the vinyl from first (www.flooringsuperstore.com/impero-vinyl-adhesive.html ). But when that ran out we just used some other contact adhesive, either the Trim Fix which we had for the carpet, or the Evo Stik all purpose one. Can't remember which but it was one of those two! @@SelfBuiltStoriesThanks for your reply to this recent question. I too am about to lay vinyl in mine and the adhesive did look completely easier but I had this question also watching your video. Great to hear it's holding up a year on 👍
Hiya, a few reasons really. We wanted it to be really thin to not lose any standing height, and also be a single sheet so it's easy to wipe clean and no unsealed edges anywhere. But also figured it would be easier and less fiddly to install too, just cutting around the edges of the van.
