My dad worked selling Ford's in 57. He said the body shop was busy getting the doors to shut good. He bought the car owned by the dealerships son. Some soldier from fort sill stole the car and out ran the Oklahoma highway patrol. He was stopped in Kansas. Last new car he ever bought.

A crazy lady sent to the hospital after being kicked off flight stole a Caprice Taxi cab that was a retired police car with the LT-1 Engine and out ran all the state police in VA. , Maryland and Delaware Finally crashed when the car ran out of gas and stalled . The Cab Driver ended up paying for the Cab and the towing charges back to Norfolk VA.

I doubt everything in this AD, was the truth. I preferred the FORD & had a 57 Farelane 500 HT, with the 312 engine & ford-O=Matic three speed tranny. Raced many 57 Chevy's & was never beaten.Even now I would still rather have a 57 Ford than a 57 Chevy. Better yet, I would like to have both ! The 55 Chevy was always one of my favorite cars.

Little real substance??? Thanks very much for this video, but I think we've got a Chevy guy here. They go through the frame, the suspension, the brakes, the rear end, the motor, even the roof supports. Some very compelling stuff that is not very confusing even for a Ford guy. They even tackle Chevy fuel injection! Try to find anything like this today. I've owned both a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air and a Ford Fairlane, both completely restored. I love Chevies, but my Ford had a far more stable ride, handled much better, and just felt more controllable. It felt like it benefitted from new engineering, which is supported by this video. The Chevy felt like it was from another era, which it was. You can argue the Chevy is better looking, but the Ford is a better car - at least the ones that didn't rust.

Even though it wasn't part of this film, ANOTHER advantage to the Ford over the Chevrolet was, the frame on the Ford WOULDN'T break, like the frames on the Chevrolet, those 57' Chevys had bad frames that would break.

It’s fun to see how the automakers tried to sell their cars in the past. Ironic that at the time the Chevrolet three year old body was considered “out of date” compared to the new lower/ wider styles of both Ford and Plymouth, yet the 1957 Chevrolet in later years became the icon of 1950s style cars.

The Chevy we know as the '58, was supposed to be the '57 to take on the all-new Ford and Plymouth, but there was a delay and Chevy pulled every trick in the book to appear to update the '56 to appear to be all-new as well. This included the elongation with the fins, the siding which created a subliminal optical illusion of further sleekness. It also included advertising the Chevy as though it were completely new as well to compensate. The '57 Plymouth (in a likely salt rubbing at Chevy) used the slogan 'Suddenly it's 1960!' in their ads at first until GM forced them to stop. My only problem with the looks of the '57 Ford were the hooded headlights, vs. the '56. Ford wisely retained those on the '57 T-Bird. They would have been great on the regular Ford lines too, but that's just my take on it. As for Plymouth, loved the styling except for the vertical 'slats' under the grill. They fixed that on the '58, and it looked perfect. It's amazing how relatively small details can make huge differences for worse and better in appearance.

Im a ford guy but like anything old. Time told the tale, Chevy had the look, chevy had the engine that is still popular, chevy had the Powerglide- still a top transmission, ford had the diff design there leading up to the 9" and 9 3/8". From that particular era, chevy had the lasting formula by far. As years went by chevy adopted a lot of ford styled engineering features in the ls then ford recently borrowed a few back within the godzilla engine! All up, its simply personal taste.

The Ford was certainly more modern then the Chevrolet, and the Ford had a 3-speed automatic transmission, while Chevrolet's new Turboglide was a catastrophe. I've always found it a bit odd that Chrysler's 1957 'forward look' cars get all the credit for lowering the belt line, when the 1957 Fords did the same thing.
