Essentially Pyuo Pyuo with the 1990s Sonic TV show characters. I played it in Ultimate Genesis Collection, but trying to beat this puzzle game is a pain. But yeah, compare Eggman here to Sonic Mania. Man, he got very rusty in the modern game!
i love how different games do the shaky effect on specific opponents, in puyo puyo it was canonically powerful characters that had the shakey effect when they slammed down the beans/puyos, in dr robotnik's mean bean machine it's the retarded characters who while sure they might be strong, they seem kinda stupid which makes it feel abit like they are just slamming them down randomly and not paying attention lol, and then kirby's avalanche is the only one that did it correctly with king dedede (final boss) being the ONLY one with the effect which just screams "this is the final boss, so pay attention" lol
Its actually a conundrum, how you'll simultaneously love to play this game....but also makes you want to break your controller after the CPU suddenly turns the tide while you're on a winning streak, and makes you have to start all over again. I know that there's pass codes to reach a stage again, but its much more satisfying beating the game without using them.
I've played this game a lot back in the day and while I think It's a nice idea to create a puzzle game based in the Sonic The Hedgehog universe, I do think some things hold this game back from being an exceptional game. The biggest thing is that the game has quite a high difficulty level, even when you have it set on the easiest difficulty setting. Some may enjoy the challenge, but with others, it may make them feel overwhelmed with frustration. The plot is typical for the franchise and the ending is not really worth all the effort it takes to get there. The music and graphics are very nice for the system, though. Overall, a puzzle game that I would only recommend to the die hard fans of puzzle games, Sonic The Hedgehog games, and people with lots of patience to get through it.
This version of Puyo Puyo is really solid! However, the original version is much better than this! This is still enjoyable but the first version has better stuff to enjoy!

I mean, this was the American version of puyo puyo, since puyo puyo itself didn’t release in America until several years later
