I got this game when I was 8 or 7 on PC, never went further than the first Fantasy level. The game was too hard for me. Kinda cool to see what the game looks like beyond my progression.
Further then I ever got! This game is just the first two levels to me. I could never beat a single boss because of the awful controls, even coming back to it as an adult I just can't deal with it.
What a speedrun, the way you break the game and go out of bounds and everything, it's just amazing, what a boss 😄 I wonder what Dan Castellaneta thinks about this game since he voiced Jim.
Jinkies, I recall this game being so buggy and tough yet fun, I just had to see what a speedrun looked like. thanks for your efforts, time, and upload!
l remember getting both this and banjo kazooie on the same day and liking this more haha. l think l was just more familiar with Jim as a character, also thinking it was easier for some reason. It's nice seeing it again.
There are a few levels where Jim 3D gets quite tough/frustrating (Death Wormed Up, Poultrygeist and Lord of the Fries spring to mind). I personally had a tough time with Banjo-Kazooie's "Click Clock Wood", but I think overall BK is likely the easier of the two.
Bestes Video aller Zeiten! Ohne wäre ich niemals weiter gekommen. Bin aktuell in der "grünen" Welt, mir fehlen aber noch Murmeln aus der Vorwelt, bei den Balken.... Vielen Dank 🙏
I played a shit ton hours of this game as a kid and always got stuck and had to re run the levels to find what I was missing. Was never even close to completing it. Bosses where too hard and I remember the rush of beeing close to beating them.
Its a damn shame that the game ended up this way. There was alot more going to be in the game. For one, Evil the cat was going to be the boss for the Fear section, Not Monkey for a head. Evil would have worked SOOO much better here as it fits him. In addition, the icon portrait for jim is a fucking joke as it goes BACKWARDS in development. Jim's portrait in the beta was more detailed than the final and reacted to the environment, even blinking from time to time like in earthworm jim 2. The final meanwhile is just a simple PNG image that only changes depending on how much health jim has. This is a fucking JOKE as you would think the final icon we got is something they had in a very early part of the game's development. If this game was actually like how it was in beta footage, then i would have loved to see it
Yeah, unfortunately the game's development went through quite a few complete revisions of the game. There's a lot of things that I would love to change about the game if I could (The movement capabilities that are shown in the earlier EJ3D to enhance 3D platforming would have been good, esp if it was something where you would have learnt new abilities over time). Certainly would have made the skips that enter levels early a whole lot more worth it. As it is right now, it only saves
Wait what happened here 1:33:51 ? You activate the ride and leave... so when it finishes it doesn't even check if you're still on the room? Wow, pretty silly they left in an exploit like that, wish I knew that trick when I was a kid, that part was hard for me hahah
I was 5 or 6 the last time i played earthworm jim 3d, and oh my god I never finished the farm level and had no clue they had you decapitating cows w/ meat cleavers in the next one lmao this was a nostalgia trip
@@Ballaam When I was a kid I didn't even realize the game had any flaws. I just enjoyed it and after years of trying finally completed it. Gotta love earthworm jim series man.
Different people will see it different ways and is a contentious point in the speedrunning community. Personally I still see the run you mention as World Record. This is just the best run with video footage that is available now. It's still #2 though
With the Barn to be Wild route, we have to pause-exit at the end in order to get out the fastest. If we were to then go fight Psycrow, we'd have to go down the elevator again which takes up a lot of time. It turns out that it's faster to enter Barn to be wild once to get a marble to hit the requirements to enter Psycrow, and then fight psycrow and then do Barn to be Wild in order to skip that extra elevator trip.
i'm just trying to get thru this game casually. I only managed to get 2 udders in the 2nd stage, I never would have thought to do a bunch of the stuff u did there lol
There are a few moments which are more notable than others. Death Wormed Up is easily the easiest level to die in, and still remains the most tense level. Bosses can be annoying at times because they are very random, and you can lose a minute or two due to bad luck. There's also a bug on the PC version where some of the udders can "unsave" itself. You have no idea whether this occurs until after the Bob fight where you Exit back to main brain. If you get the bug, the game won't open the Kim door. Whilst you can enter Kim early with a well-placed jump, it won't count as 100% until you recollect that Udder. Thankfully this bug is very very uncommon. In the greater scheme of things, this game is pretty easy to learn, especially on PC
@@Ovvkoz Yeah, we kill the bats and the piranhas before the blue balloon section of Death Wormed Up to heavily reduce the chance of getting popped over quicksand whilst in the blue balloon section. I guess in this run I just got really unfortunate. This run is definitely beatable though
Unless an enemy *needs* to be killed to fulfill a certain objective (eg. Acid Bats in "Death Wormed Up" to open the stone door, the alien behind the glass in "Are you Hungry Tonight" to open the door near the udder), it is slower to kill the enemies. There are a few cases in this run where I kill some enemies for either some health ("Are you Hungry Tonight" ending where I need health to perform a specific trick) or to make an environment safer ("Death Wormed Up" acid bats in the quicksand room to reduce the chance of me falling in the quicksand and dying), but it does lose time to do so (but not as much as dying would).
@@Ballaam I see... Either way, I'm still quite impressed. Because you make this look easy :) and I'm happy to see an old game that I used to play from the past again. :) What I woulden't give to play it again and do as good a job as you. Thanks a bundle for the trip down memory lane (so to speak) But what is your secret for gathering up those old ladies in that pen so easily? As well as getting somewhere within the time limit, accessing that closed tight door in "Are you hungry tonight?" (the one in which the alien came out of that diden't have an access system) And most of all...what is the secret to beating that hated "Ride the Ice-Cube Challange?"
@@paulpavlus6664 Thanks for the compliments, thankfully the majority of tricks in this run are on the simpler side of things once you know how they work. Regarding your questions: 1) Regarding the old grannies, there are two different strategies for the two different levels they appear in. For "Violent Death Valley", the primary idea is to group all of them together and then force the group into the pen, which makes it miles easier. For "The Good, The Bad & The Elderly", this strategy doesn't really work because the grannies do not like to group up. So instead, I try to get a couple in the pen, and then go for the 3rd and then the 4th granny individually whilst occasionally going back to keep the grannies firmly in the pen. They do tend to escape a fair amount, so this isn't by any means "super easy", but it does make the challenge easier. 2) The opening of the door in "Are you Hungry Tonight?" is tied to the death of the alien in the glass box that I kill moments before entering the door. The hardest part of this is making sure you don't kill that alien prematurely. 3) Regarding the "Ride the Ice Cube" challenge, the game doesn't reset the challenge if you leave that room or jump off the Ice Cube. It only resets it if you fall through the floor or leave the level. So if you can jump off the ice cube and get back on top of the fridge, you can skip having to actually ride the cube (thankfully). Whilst the Ice Cube is moving around, you can spend your time doing other stuff in the level since all rooms in a level are constantly loaded whenever you're in the level. Hope that helps :)
The range of where the picture will change is limited, so you can jump around it to enter the room faster. I failed it in this run, but this is what it should look like: th-cam.com/video/-1c8CplYeIk/w-d-xo.htmlm45s (42:45 if it doesn't redirect)
We skip doing the Elvis escort mission by an out of bounds to reach the udder ( 35:45 ) and another out of bounds to reach the marbles ( 42:50 ) that you would normally acquire for beating the Elvis escort mission. The escort mission is done "as intended" in the 100% Glitchless run, an example of which can be seen here: th-cam.com/video/V7S2PJGWG1k/w-d-xo.htmlm40s
I loved this game as a child! One thing that bothers me now is to realize that with every level the boss gets less scary and more....ridiculous? Psycrow and this purple chef were scary AF, and this monkey... and fish... well, completely pathetic:) And I dont understand the last part with Jim as a girl ? Isn't it girl shaming kind of thing? And my last observation is that the last Fantasy level is like a mirror reflection of food level. Everything has the same pattern. Memory and Fear very creative tho!
The dialog that Earthworm Kim has pre-fight would not hold up at all today. Given the interesting story of development this game had, I wouldn't be surprised if Fantasy's suboptimal gameplay was a result of incredibly rushed development towards the end of the game's cycle
I mean my entire time I did RTA speedruns was between 2016 and 2019, and my favorite console was the N64. So like, I didn't really join "the bandwagon". I just did runs of Jim 3D because I thought it was fun :P
By jumping on the ice cube, you start the "ride the ice cube" minigame. We then jump off the ice cube onto the fridge which still keeps the minigame running whilst we do other stuff. Because we didn't fall onto the floor, the game thinks we haven't failed when the ice cube finishes it's journey and therefore gives us the Udder
