Well explained! I had forgotten how to play it. Used to play it as a kid. Wonderful explanation. Brought memories back. Thank you so much. God bless you and yours!!
defo. But this video was lifted from another channel by a guy called Julian Groves (see the comments), which is a shame because he explains it well and should get the credit. His version has much more to it: Original: th-cam.com/video/v9LNUvHqXeQ/w-d-xo.html
wow thanks mate, I've just learnt a very cool game, now I'm off to amazon to buy a board, very cool. Thank you, and thank you BBC for making me look for how this game is played (because their article extolled its popularity but failed to explain the game itself, they should've embedded your video)

@@neanda - They mean what would happen if the preceeding pits had one or two seeds, and you landed on them on your way to the final pit, with four or more seeds.
There is a rule for some variations where if you get your opponent into the position where he has no seeds his side to play forward (because you have got yourself into the position where you have not been able to feed him in the proceeding move) then he is entitled to take whatever is left on the board. Thus this brings the game to an end.

@@juliangroves6875 what you probably need to elaborate on is whether or not you created the game of Ayo and sequence of play or this was a video you made and somehow the uploader got a hold of your video and uploaded it. If it is neither then you didn't create anything and do not try to take credit for what isn't yours.
Are you thousands of years old? Time magazine in 1963 wrote that it is the oldest board game in the world: "Carved on a vast block of rock in the ancient Syrian city of Aleppo are two facing ranks of six shallow pits with larger hollows scooped out at each end. The same design is carved on columns of the temple at Karnak in Egypt, and it appears in the early tomb paintings in the valley of the Nile. It is carved in the Theseum in Athens, and in rock ledges along caravan routes of the ancient world. "

Who else is here from the BBC news story?
Yeah, mainly because they explained NOTHING in the article! Thanks to this video maker, this has been helpful.
Yeah - Me too and as Matt Greek said - they didn't explain the game.
yeah they didn't explain it, and it sounded interesting, they should've embedded this video

What happens if you end up with no seeds in your half of the board? Does your opponent win or do they have to give some out to your side?
thanks for help me learn this game
What if the last seed fails to make any captures, but the preceeding ones landed in holes of 1 or 2 seeds?
Is this Julians second channel or something?
thanks! so interesting.

What if you land your last seed into a pit of four or more
you wait if your opponent will feed again your side with seeds, if he moves and feeding your side YOU WON
nothing happens, the aim is to make it 2 or 3

When does this game ends? like in other version Mancala(laps) and mancala(no-laps) the game ends when one side of the boards is empty.

When one player has 25 seeds, which is the majority of 48.
