my dad swears by his chronarchs and calcuttas. haha and they have lasted him for twenty years! Albeit, he does not fish as much as you and we’ve never gone out for the kayak thing. But anyways, I’m here now because I was trying ro search down the actual difference between a Chronarch and a Calcutta. I’ve thought surely there must be?! There’s like a 200$ difference in price! But they are both excellent Shimano models for their purposes.

Justin, I’ve started taking the side plate off to lubricate the bearings, worm gear, and handles after every fishing trip. This gives the reel excessive lubricant, however, I have not had any anti reverse bearing failures on the Lews, Shimano Curado Bantam, and Piscifun Phantom reels. I have not been able to stop corrosion on the anti reverse bearing on the Shimano SLX DC reel. It has become a paper weight. And I fish everyday in the Rockport area.
I've only taken the spool out and cleaned and lubed all of those bearings weekly. Every time I have taken the side plate off, sh*t goes flying lol. I am not patient with those little parts and I don't take them in to get cleaned often like I should. Eventually I might learn how to break one down. I can fish with them, just not work on them lol

Thanks Mike! That was the Heb shrimp that I refroze from my last trip. I couldn't get a bite on a lure, but put that Texas raised shrimp on and it was on fire!!
I have a buddy named Mike that rents houses on a channel in the Aransas Pass/Rockport areas. They have garages you can keep your kayaks in while staying there. I assume you mean when you come into town fishing, instead of a hotel. His number is 210-336-8337
@Clean Fun Fishing my curado 150 mgl is paired up with an old 18 Light, 7' suppressor rod. I use that setup for artifical shrimp, buggs lures, or jerk shad. It casts 1/8 oz total weight lures great.

I've never tried the Calcutta but I did use that chronarch for a whole year. Great reel

It lasted me for quite a while. Almost a year. I put my reels through hell though.
Love my Chronarch G! Make sure you keep the brass brake cone oiled and she will cast great.

Chonarch is a nice reel. Shimano makes the best.
I prefer my Curado 150 mgl over my chronarch. Plus, its 100 less

It's just a basic 1/4 ounce jig head. It works when all else fails.
