If you have lots of media such as photos and videos, creating your own cloud may be the way to go. Check out these simple steps for creating your own cloud so you can share files easily. - บันเทิง
DIY=buy a device and follow setup
my thoughts exactly...
Tekzilla has a tutorial i think ( with freeware)
+asronome IKR!
Don't you just love these corporate media morons who act like they've actually discovered and are sharing something with you?
It really makes you start wondering if the combined intellect of all of them, from the O'Reilly's to the Wolfgang Blitzers' could even manage to collectively wipe their own asses?
Basically we share all our data with WD.
she just bought a product and followed its user manual and used it properly. guys, I made a DIY car
She didn't even mention how big the storage is
I love the idea having my own cloud.. I don't like empowering corporations by using their services when I can have my own
As much as this could be an awesome informative video this looks more like product placement
Could you buy any brand of ssd storage and use it with the WD account and mobile app? or do you have to have the Wd storage device too?
Can you access ye cloud from anywhere in the world or do you need to port forward
It's tied to third party (WD) servers, it i want to make a personal cloud i want something that only includes my devices and the cloud. Like a NAS solution maybe.
Same... Did you fix something after all this time? :/
I purchased a WD MyCloud device and it worked sometimes and other times it did not. It was tricky to configure and was not as simple as videos like this would have you believe. All was reasonable until recently I got a message from WD that they will stop supporting your my device. My 2TB device will go off line in a couple of weeks and I am reluctant to buy anything else from them. I have Windows 10 and an iPhone 12 and I'm ticked that it will no longer be functional. This is something to consider when spending hundreds of dollars for storage. Sounds to me like some planned obsolescence so that I buy another device. I'm a little disappointed that I purchased my WD device.
I have the same problem now, WD devices have become obsolete
Same thing happened to me. It was good while it lasted 😒
My Samsung 1TB external does not have an ether port or USB port, only to connect to the pc ... It only has power & cable to connect to the pc.. Thanks
why is this titled diy when u are using an prepackaged solution instead of making your own diy server
When I was working on WD I actually installed a full blown Debian on one of the predecessors of these as a test, just to see what happens. Knowing WD they will surely still use the same distro (not a bad choice TBH) so you could actually do som nifty things with some older versions from Ebay.
big companies does business like that... that's bait marketing ... I'm still thinking how it managed to get this many thumbs up..?
Because it has pretty girl in it.
@@tokkenme Maybe we saw 2 different videos because I just saw an ordinary girl. Didn't see a pretty one.
Bc we have ppl in the white house like, "you don't need farms, just go to the grocery store like everyone else"🤪
This is awesome.
More advanced ASUS routers don't even need this! Just a typical external hard drive, set up DDNS, enable AiCloud and it's all done!
I have A Western Digital Sentinal with 6GB - it's for my small business so my employees can back up files.
If you want a 6TB, Western Digital has a 4TB for $150!
When I read the title I hoped someone @ CNET finally discovered OwnCloud. Unluckily I was wrong.
How protected is this stuff?
Ma'am, every day my data store is around 5tb and it could increase more
What should I do, the normal storage is costing very high to me.
I dont get it... What is the difference between using google drive and your own NAS? Is it just for more storage?
I love you. U are fabulous
Can use usb dongle to ethernet ? USB TO RJ45 ?
Me plugging a thumb drive into my router: DONE.
Can we generate link and give the link to other people for download. If yes, then no need to subscribe google drive anymore
Is this managed by yourself or different company ..
can we host web site, with the use of it
The slowest network drive ever
This is called a file server.
1:58 my cloud isn't "the cheapest", you could make your own with a raspberry pi and a flash drive or two
diy=buy dd-wrt router, hook up an expansion drive to it, and then... I'm looking for the then part.
This is more of a file server, not a cloud (I worked at WD, BTW). I was seraching for a small cloud solution that wasn' t based on RH Openstack or OpenNebula. I do have Opennebula running as a demo but it's still to big for my needs, plus I do have (free) access to a real cloud at work.
What did you end up finding that would work?
This did not create a Cloud from DIY, this was just an advertisement for this one product, which was not a DIY Cloud; this was a pre-packaged device built to streamline the creation of the cloud, without ACTUALLY providing ANY instruction on how it functions, neither had they described customization nor encryption in this video; reported for false advertising. Advertised as “DIY: Create your own cloud” which they explicitly did not do.
Can you stream music from it though?
Yes of course you can
Did it for £25 use old router with USB port and 500GB hard drive with enclosure, and use media player HD iPad app and smb server. :)
yes this is the video i came here to watch let me know when you post it lmaoooooo
Did u post how to do that? Or any newer upgrades you did?
Or Just buy vps and install owncloud Or nextcloud on it.
Y’all, it’s labeled DIY for people like me who aren’t super techies and just don’t want to pay monthly subscriptions. Stop hating.
Also, check out vDrive on sourceforge to turn your everyday computer into your own Cloud!!
That seems more like a DIY cloud than this WD advertisement. Thanks.
Is vdrive still good to use or is there something else you would recommend?
Vinay Reddy
title should have been "Buy your own cloud". She is cute thou.
Rigth, Right too :)
Thanks
and Security?
Im sure that it was only me who was searching for a raincloud at home and found this
shes molto bello, si!
this is not DIY, it is how to use WD cloud.
not to mention probably pay for service also
PAID Product placement
This does not work with Macs. : (
I came here because i am 3D printing my own NAS cloud storage device that will hold as many hdds as i need being a modular device that allows me to continue tonadd more hdd trays, should be compatible with 3.5" and smaller drives too. This video was not what i was looking for 😅
Can we get a cloud tutorial that doesn't require proprietary software crap?
I can say QNAP makes very good products but you get what you pay for.
CNET, this video is 7 years old can you make a updated version please?
I'm sure technology has changed since then.
Barcelona
❤💙
Sorry CNet-this was a terrible "DIY!" It's not "Do It Yourself" if you buy a "cloud" drive with the software to install it. That's having a corporation do all your work for you.
I would rather just buy a server case and buy hardrives
I was wondering why the user interface sucks, then I saw 7 years old, makes sense lol
This is not creating ur own cloud ur jus using a internet service to setup a personal cloud..... creating a cloud from scratch is setting up the server/service to run the cloud from.......
Hi i need to connect with you
I have a great id but need a technical expert like u
Great Video Great Girl Great Info thank I was thinking of buying one of these and now I will
wd cloud contain inccomplete, buggy dead slow performance features
incomplete=need to buy extra software from wd to sync pc folder to cloud
buggy=always dissapear from network in 48 hrs, then need to reboot with power switch
dead slow=showing contents over internet is too much slower or half speed as compared to google drive or skydrive or with personal ftp server. for proof, check even this video where video is edited a lot upon retreiving data from intternet
i watch cnet reggularly just to get honest technological comparisons, not for adverts
you know you can create a Vm and install owncloud to use this for free on windows
Details please?
@@VIRGILSHELTONII look up Net VN on TH-cam.... he has a video for this
Show us Cloud enclosures instead on another video.
This is not what i was expecting.
Send me fix cloud
Good video
this cloud is impossible to use slow, clumsy, the software's are tree, non of them are realty sufficient, they don't work all the time, terrible compatibility windows 10 security restriction. is a mess I lost my time money and lost hope.
My uncle has that
This is commercial not diy
Don't u get that once u saw that pretty face marketer gal
Or just use a USB stick like a normal person...
+Jarl Ballin' maybe this is more efficient and the business could afford the upgrade?
Since im not normal person, so i use cloud storage. 😞😞
Cool, can you quickly share that file with me... Oh wait
This ain't no DIY!
Sharon Profis in the pudding.
Does WD own CNET? Lol
Be Real
The worst product! Didn’t work to me.
This is not a cloud.
Yes, DIY, and this is the simple version? what to do if we don't own that brand NAS????? Ooops, is that part of your sponsor? Bad exampleSharon, why don't you tell us about Owncloud for linux, or Tonido for Mac and Windows systems? Did you not know? Ah, your pretty face does not say you are genius.... as a lot of TH-cam shit rolls around the net.... Sorry.... Bad video...
Oh, and ps, I had once a WD Nas 4TB, but I was glad I could return it, as the software was so sturdy and inflexible plus the advertisement was totally untruthfully and did not what it promised. Bad product.....
Ha woman ☕️
DIY ain't DIY anymore
When I read the title I hoped someone @ CNET finally discovered OwnCloud. Unluckily I was wrong.
You said this already. several times in several videos. I guess you must be getting paid by the comment.
@@MakeWay4CJ dafuk dude I wrote that comment 6 years ago. And i wrote it just once, idk what the heck you're talking about
