    Hey guys! In this video I go over what happened to InGen's Tylosaurus after Jurassic Park: The Game which is not to be confused with the Jurassic World Mosasaurus from the newer films. No this marine reptile from the Jurassic Park game hasn't really been heard of for quite some time. So what happened to it? Well it all boils down to canon and the unknown possibilities that the future may hold for the expanded universe of the Jurassic franchise! Hopefully you all enjoy this video! :D

    If I were to try and explain it away in the current canon, I'd say that the Mosasaur had a tracking device in it similar to the Indominus Rex and, after the fall of the original park on Nublar it was tracked down and secretly killed by InGen, as it would present a much larger threat to their reputation than the original park would.

      @@iyoutubeperson4336 Probably not, but my reasoning for if they DID is that the Tylosaurus's enclosure is directly connected to open water, so if it escapes it has much more freedom than the dinosaurs, who are contained by the mainland (ignoring any boat shenanigans, which InGen didn't consider at all).

    My Confidence is high when I say that Jurassic park the game was made because it was believed that the franchise would never get another movie. So of course it doesn't make sense now, but back then the writers felt that there wouldn't be anything in the future to contradict the game. And they had every reason to believe so; with the uncertainty of Jurassic park 4 at the time.

    If the Tylosaurus did exist, it would likely have been subject to the same lysine contingency as every other creation in Jurassic Park. We know that on Isla Sorna, the animals survived because the herbivores ate lysine-rich plants, and the carnivores at the herbivores. However, the Tylosaurus is the only marine animal we've yet to encounter from the original Park era, and as a predator, would thus not have had lysine-scavenging herbivores to feed on, and thus would have succumbed to eventual death as intended by the lysine contingency protocol. At least, that's what makes the most sense to me.

    • @Bullboy_Adventures

      Really? Wow. In that case, the spinosaurus from sorna could still be alive being that she is a fish eater.

    • @BrickBastard
      @BrickBastard 5 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      True, hence the survival of the pteranodons in Sorna's bird cage. But were those fish naturally lysine-rich, or were some of InGen's lysine dispenser mechanisms still running on the geothermal power grid? And even if they were naturally occurring, being the only source of food would have removed the element of choice from the survival of those animals. Who is to say that the Tylosaurus would have been able to find or select lysine-rich fish in the whole of the open ocean, where it would have been spoiled for choice. The point I'm trying to make is that the lysine contingency seems far more limiting to predators than plant-eaters, and the Tylosaurus is such a different and solitary case from the other animals that it feels more like that life... would not have found a way.

    • @VelociraptorsOfSkyrim

      The Jurassic world dinosaurs each had tracking chips so putting a lysine dependency gene in them was not necessary as all it would do is make feeding costs a lot more expensive I'm pretty sure the tylosaur had a lysine dependency and because it was a marine dinosaur it wasn't subjected to the stuff that removed the dependency that Sorkin put into the drinking water supply of the dinosaur so it probably died in a few months later because finding fish with lysine in the quantities needed to survive would be difficult

    Always a mystery; the fabled Tylosaurus!
    I believe it's Canon, and died after the 93 incident...never to be discovered.
    The little inconsistencies like Gerry's missing mustache can all be overlooked. Look at the map mistake in JWFK..that's a massive mistake in a movie. A few goofs in a game I can easily overlook. Besides..Telltale never had permission to use the actors face.

    Like it's shown in the game, we see Dr. Harding close the gate with harpoon (for lack of a better word), and therefore sealing off the Tylosaurus' chance to escape. So, my guess is that it died.
    Also, another element that I think should be canon is that the lysine contingency was reversed by Laura Sorkin. Unless the lysine-rich plants were abundant on Isla Nublar, how else would Rexy and the other dinosaurs have survived for so long?

    I figure it Died. Laura Released it into it's Enclosure on the Island. While Nima mentioned caves The creature was much too big to use them. I'd say it became an opportunistic Predator, grabbing creatures that venture to it's pool for a Drink. Eventually it would Slowly starve. Once Masrani takes over the Island Wu likely finds the creature dead and uses it's DNA to make the Mosasurus

    • @ernesthegmann699
      @ernesthegmann699 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      We don't know for 100% fact it ever got out of the Pool with the Observation Area. The Key moment is when Dr. Harding closes the Gate. This Gate leads to Underwater tunnels off the Nublar. I'm willing to bet this Eliminated the possibility of the Tylosaurs escaping beyond the Lagoon, pending it didn't bash through the gate at some later point. If it had it would still need to Navigate the Tunnels just to get into the Pacific Ocean. If the creature doesn't have a Source of Food it will weaken over time until it dies of Starvation.

      By the way the Largest found Mosasurus is 43 feet long the Largest Tylosaurs is just under 40 feet long the Mosasurus in Jurassic World is 60 feet long. Given Henry Wu's track record for Hybridization it wouldn't shock me if he combined the Two to make This Monster bigger.

    • @jbcatz5
      @jbcatz5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      It'd actually be a rare sign of forethought by InGen if they deliberately used the smaller caves as a natural containment. There's ways to get food into the exhibit for the Tylosaur with relatively minimal risk (as Dr Sorkin discovered the area in the middle is no guarantee of safety, and the Moon pool is a serious health a safety hazard even by Jurassic Park standards). There's only one, so unless it can reproduce asexually (it's InGen genetics, who knows where the limits are) it's stuck in that enclosure. Certainly much more secure than the Mosasaur Lagoon in the Jurassic World complex, which opens up into _open ocean_ directly or indirectly.

    • @ernesthegmann699
      @ernesthegmann699 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I actually found that to be a major plot hole I Fallen Kingdom. When Zack and Gray look at the park from the Hotel we see the Lagoon is 100% land locked, We also see no Gate during the Pterosaurs Attack or When it Breaches to Grab Indominus Rex, and Finally as Rexie Roars no Gates in the Mosasurus Lagoon. Suddenly Fallen Kingdom there's an Ocean Gate.

    • @jbcatz5
      @jbcatz5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I noticed that inconsistency as well. The promotional material for Jurassic World, including the interactive map, shows the Mosasaur Lagoon in the middle of the Isla Nublar landmass, as visitors need to take the monorail from the docks to get to the central area of Jurassic World. In-universe it makes no sense either as Masrani went to great lengths for security (in ten years of operation the park hadn't had any notable incidents), and putting the Lagoon in the middle of the island is a perfect containment for a marine reptile.

Every so often, a fishing boat comes back with stories of seeing some monster - or the remains of it's last meal. Mostly they're dismissed, but there are a few people out there theorising that this could be some escaped animal that Masrani/Ingen want to keep quiet about. And with a whole ocean to hide in, there's not much chance of really tracking it down.

    I think Laura Sorkin is a hugely underrated character. I hear people talk about Jurassic Park The Game being great all the time, and it is. The Tylosaurus and Toodons were incredibly cool and fun adversaries, and it’s neat seeing how these characters interact. But I almost never hear people talking about Sorkin.
    A doctoral geneticist with a history as a Viêt Nam protestor, her history of quarreling with Wu about accurate genes versus easy to produce genes, and how she’s willing to break the law for her values balance to be a really fun character in my opinion. Honestly, how logically she approached her “hostage situation” was interesting and said a lot about how she doesn’t break the law for the sake of it, but knows crime gets noticed so she can get eyes and ears on her cause.
    I wish we got more time with her and wish more people talked about her.
    If they _really_ wanted, they could even use Sorkin the same way the comics used Muldoon: parroting Malcom’s monologue from the beginning of the Lost World novel about how the audience seeing him die doesnt mean he really died.
    I know that’ll never happen.
    But a girl can dream, right?

    I always thought that the Tylo’s way to the ocean was through that cave system that Gerry and the gang used. And remember that Gerry closed the gate before the Tylo got in? I think that means the Tylosaurus is trapped in that cave forever now, I don’t think they let her enter the ecosystem.
    If they had just let her be free, Gerry would have mentioned it at the end on the boat or Jess would have asked something like “what about that huge lizard thingie we released into the world?” Since they don’t mention her again I’m guessing she’s trapped and dead from lack of oxygen when the island’s geothermal plant shuts down, or when the volcano erupts in Fallen Kingdom, if it managed to sustain itself on fish till then

    I had thought when you finished the sequence in the Tylosaurus's enclosure, you had closed the gate Sorkin opened, and left the Mosasaur to die in it's cave. Could it have broken out? It broke parts of the xhibit by sheer bite and/or ram force, so yes. But I don't think it simply swam out. I'd have to review the game (never played, only watched playthroughs) todevelop a conclusive idea.

      Lee Hardy if you consider the game canon, the lysine contingency not longer applies as Dr. Laura Sorkin put a cure for it into the main waterworks on the island. Not sure if that would have reached the marine enclosure or not. But the point is, that’s why all the animals lived even after the events of the first film, instead of slipping into a coma and dying off.

    I'd say it escaped and just wandered around the Pacific, simply feeding on fish and keeping a low profile since it was raised in a deep cave. Maybe it woud encounter some unsuspecting local islanders and become a tribal legend. Quite honestly, it makes sense for something that large to stay away from widely populated or polluted areas, or probably swims from low-key Pacific island to island, stalking the underwater caves looking for fish as we saw it doing in the game. I'd say it probably survived, one of the only animals to leave the original Jurassic Park at the time

    I think a predatory underwater brawl against this tylosaurus and the mososaurus would be pretty interesting to say the least. There is no telling how big this creature could become if it went unchallenged or unchecked in the worlds oceans. Having said that though, in 1993 it was not much larger than an orca and lacked most of the critical hunting experience that most predators in the wild typically have. It’s hard to say if the tylosaurus was indeed as big of a threat as most people assume.

  • @bradyonyx174

    The reason why I wouldn’t include the tylosaurus in any future sequels is that people who don’t of Jurassic Park The Game’s events would find it absurd. Something smaller, such as the name of a volcano, is okay, but another giant marine reptile? Don’t get me wrong, I personally would love seeing the aggressive animal on screen, I just don’t know if the general public would accept it all that well. 🦖🦕🐉

      I think it would be cool for like a film revolving about giornalist going back to the original park to discover it's secrets, I would imagine a scene exploring the underwater facility, picht black, one character lights up a torch and is meet by the scene of the corpse of the tylosaurus left to starve, it's still open eye staring right back at him...
      That would be cool in my opinion but having it free in the ocean would just be too much

  • @F.Taborsky
    @F.Taborsky 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that an answer is actually in the last scene in your video - the only way to the open ocean was blocked by that falling grill gate that Gerry had shot with the harpoon. And the following events are brightly (and logicaly) described in Tylosaurus InGen profile made by Taliesaurus on DevianArt: *citation "The creature was trapped in the cave complex and after the automatic feedeing mechanism went out of fish, the poor creature was senteced to starve to death"... And that is why we could not see it or hear about it in any other following canon materials. It was the secret attraction, so no one knew about it (and Dr. Wu obviously did not care about it...) and after the Jurassic Park was abandoned, this predator fell into an oblivion. And even if somebody found the "Marine Facility" during the 1994 clean up, the Tylo would probably be already dead, so they would tick it off the list as succesfuly destroyed asset and that is all.

    It'd be cool if in JW3, Dr. Wu is conversing with others about the mosasaurus and says something about her being his second attempt at cloning an aquatic reptile, where he'll mention the tylosaurus. He could say how she got out thanks to Dr. Sorkin, but he assumed she died shortly after due to lysine deficiency. He couldn't confirm her death because her carcass was never found, but she would have little to no chance of surviving for long. If they had found her carcass, then he'd have cloned another one. Or something along those lines, nothing too big, but it would confirm the tylosaurus as cannon.

    Hadn't it been re-trapped inside its enclosure when Jerry fired a harpoon at the air tank apparently keeping the pressurized gate open? As for canonicity in the wider Jurassic Park canon, Universal Studios had previously declared this game as "and official sequel," whether that statement had been placed to hype the game, or show this wasn't just a fan made game, I was under the implication that they confirmed it as canon... The only thing counter-intuitive to it's canonicity is the fact that the Jurassic Park Visitor Center's entrance wasn't damaged when appearing in Jurassic World, even through the Tyrannosaur had done significant damage when it charge through to attack both Jerry and Jess Harding.

    • @jbcatz5
      @jbcatz5 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The game is soft canon, with a pick and choose policy as far as what elements are used or ignored by the later films. The napalming cannot happen because the infrastructure of the original Park is visited in Jurassic World, and Rexie is still around as of 2015, even surviving the Mt Sibo eruption having being forcibly immigrated to the mainland. Nima's people are mentioned in supplementary material. As for why Gerry and Jess Harding are never heard of again, if they did get to the mainland they'd have been paid off by InGen to keep silent, and they'd never want anything to do with dinosaurs again. Nima as well if the scenario where she survives is in the soft canon. The game and its individual aspects (characters, scenarios, dinosaurs etc) are Schrodinger's Canon. They are neither canonical or non-canonical until something in later Jurassic media confirms or contradicts it. You can make inferences based on how later events played out The Troodon as they are in this game never turn up in any material relating to Jurassic World or Fallen Kingdom, suggesting they died out, were dealt with or aren't the in canon of the films.
