Nice video Dan, I really appreciate you giving your honest experience with swim bladder!! I haven't dealt with it yet but I do have bettas,so it's always good to know how other fish keepers deal with this problem just in case! Thanks for sharing hope you have a great weekend! 👍🌱🐟🌱

Good info mate. An aquatuc vet told me salt slows the metabolism and helps the slime coat which gives the fish more energy to focus on healing.

thank you. this has been the most comforting video..i've been going nuts trying to help my black skirt tetra who 'looks like his bum bum is sinking'. i did add salt which seemed to make him less stressed..i will reduce the amount water, that's a wonderful idea. thank you again for making a video about this.. always seems like every video is about cichlids or goldfish... no one talks about skirt tetras!

Thanks for the info. I've had fancy gold fish for years. I agree with you. I've never had a fish recover. They survive for a while. If they are eating and swimming okay most of the time I leave it until the fish is suffering and then I put them down with clove oil.

Glad to find this video Dan, thanks for making it. Very sad that I am currently dealing with this issue with one of my first live bearers whose filled my tank with many of her fry. Unfortunately she is in the end by what you explained and floats at the top more on her side. I did try the peas but she couldn't even get to the bottom to eat them.

Hi Dan, I've had bad luck with it a couple times in bettas. One got bloated and I did daily epsom salt baths with a heater, fed shelled peas, etc, he did poop, but he only lasted about a week once it started. My other betta with it isn't bloated at all, but the swim bladder area itself is huge, and he floats at the surface and can't dive. I treated with 3 different antibiotics (not all at the same time), gram negative and positive, but nothing helps. I wonder if he actually has a tumor, which I've read can cause it too. He still has a great attitude though, and it's been months for him. It's hard watching them deal with this stuff. Thanks for sharing your experiences with sbd and making me feel a little better knowing that I'm not the only one who's never been able to beat it. 💙

You’re describing my Floyd- sick for months lump on side. Still has appetite but has a hard time swimming down and using tank walls to turn. I treated him for parasites aast month with no improvement. His colors are still beautiful. When he first hit sick he turned gray I moved him to so yes 3 gl cube and his color came back. I only keep him with 3 tiny guppy fry because I notice he doesn’t move much if alone. But adult guppies nip his huge fins. And a mystery snail.

I searched up many things and put my fish in its own quarantine tank. I fasted it for 3 days and fed it a pea. I have no idea what is going on and why he isn't recovering. Swin bladder syndrome usually has something to do with the fish not being able to regulate the size of the bladder with the muscle tissue surrounding the swim bladder. There are many causes, from bacterial disease, to viral causes, some are caused by intestinal blockaes. Many fishgulp air to get it in its intestines which then can through osmosis gas exchange from the intestines into the swim bladder. This is when treating for intestinal blockages can help. If the airbladder is not inflating try lifting the fish out of the water so it can gulp some air.

My black moore goldfish had it last year. He floated upsidedown. I was able to treat it. Early this year he got ick so I treated it. About 2.5 weeks ago he had ick again and I treated it. It went away then quickly came back. I noticed he was sinking at this point. Put him in a hospital tank and cleaned his tank good and cycled medicine in it. After a few days I thought he may be better and added him bad to his tank. He sank like a rock. I have him in a small carrier tank with air bubbles and gave him peas the past few days. He has pooped but won't stop sinking. I'm getting worried it's permanent 😔 to be fair he is a Walmart fish back when they sold fish. It's been 11 days trying to treat her and I've been worried but so far I added some almond leaves just two days ago cuz my dad got them for free from a kind fish pet store employee's gesture. They sell it but it's crazy expensive and so he said to get some for free by this almond tree a few blocks away haha my dad got a plastic bag full of them!
Anyway, so far it has worked more efficiently for me rather than the epsom salt. I fed her peas for over a week after I have fasted her and doing epsom salt baths. I felt like I was stressing my fish out too much doing that since I keep transferring her everyday for the baths. So the almond leaves help more because it helps reduce tress and has antibiotic properties. She was struggling to even eat the food from the floor and today was the first day I caught her doing that and she has passed some stool too which she hasn't really done over a week. I also fed her flakes for the first time ever since the start of the treatment.
Sorry if this was long. I just wanted to share my experience with you ^_^ Do you have any fish left that you take care of?

Yes canned peas are ok, just squeeze the mush out of the middle. Treat as long as needed,

My betta fish stays at the bottom, and lays on his side. He occasionally darts up I think to get air and darts down and starts to tilt on its side and lays on the ground. I am not sure what to do but I am about to separate him into a quarantine tank. His stomachs is also bloated. I am not sure what is best to do in this situation.

I wish I could help, but I'm not sure what to tell you. A salt bath is typical treatment, so I guess you can try that. good luck, I hope it works out for you.

I found a swim bladder relief video After my 9 inch Fahaka puffer died, yesterday...
    I searched Deflate Swim Bladder...
And all the Short fishing vids came up..
I did not have the guts to stab my fish until now.. after his autopsy.
    RIP, Grumpy (puffer)
It turned out that the bulge that shifted to the side of his chest... was indeed his swim bladder.
So, I could have popped the bubble and treated him for infections after that.
With a hypo need!e from the vet...
Will try sucking the air out, then pushing a half cc of Diluted Methylene Blue in there, if it ever happens again.
He may have eaten a rotten piece of meat, that was hiding behind a rock(?)
Or maybe his 'blue bal!s' from 3 months of mating attempts made his swim bladder ma!function.. I don't know.
    Not a doctor.
    Hope this helps someone.
I imagine his oversized swim bladder blocked circulation or stopped his heart. 😬

I am going to euthanise my oldest fish who has this on Friday . He has had it a while the problem is he tries to right himself then seems to dart in the water and keeps hitting the glass so hard I’m worried he’s gonna crack the glass . I’ve had him ten years . It will be sad to see him
Go but I don’t think peas etc work . He’s munched loads and is still the same . I will be sad to see him go I’m
Gonna use Clove oil. Never used this
Method before I have read it’s the most humane way to say bye bye 😢
