    Maugrim literally gave me nightmares when I was a kid, literally made me cry - but he's actually the most pathetic villain going haha!

      Maugrim gave me so many nightmares too! I had dreams of him coming and killing me. I was terrified of this scene for years but looking at it now as adult I kinda just laugh cause he was kinda pathetic

    The device of transition to a stage with red lighting for Peter's confrontation with Maugrim in those moments that needed to be removed for theatrical effectiveness is genius.

    Maugrim is presented as a credible threat in this? I'm surprised that Peter wasn't killed by way of laughing so hard. I expected Maugrim to break into a rousing rendition of "Mr. Mistoffelees"

    This one of the most realistic fights ever put to film both Peter and Maugrim circling each other each looking for an opening both very cautious when they attack it just fells right because their not hacking and slashing it doesn't have a look good flashy it fells a lot more like a real fight and both are trying to kill the other with out being killed themselves

    • @dtaylor4552
      @dtaylor4552 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In the 2005 film Maugrim was more colder, more calice and even more calculating.

  • @tonlito22
    @tonlito22 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I know everybody liked Maugrim and likes the White Witch, but clearly the Dwarf is the best one in the cast. His levelheadedness, pragmatic villainy, and unfazed "it's a living" attitude, really help this adaptation.

    Man the fight with the wolf in this blows the film adaptation out of the water. They pussed out hardcore with the LWW film version. I mean come on this was in the 80s and didn't show anything particularly gruesome and it's about 50x better.

    Now that you say it, it does seem silly when an army of grown up fauns, dwarfs, satyrs, and nymphs who have weapons, are panicking and sending a boy with a sword to kill the wolf instead of any of them.

    @Nummyful52 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    guns are why war is so prevalent now. It's hard to fight an honorable battle when you can pick people off from behind a stone wall with your little bullets. Fighting with a sword, a knife, your fists, whatever, gives you an appreciation for the horror and fear and utter ick-ness of battle, so you won't want to do it unless its the very last resort.

    This series was great and i loved it, but i always felt Lewis' work needed, no deserved, to have a major motion picture with a full hollywood budget and I was very pleased with that product as well. This was a mini series so it obviously had more story. Though, even as a child i was unable to suspend reality for a talking stuffed animal. Aslan made me laugh. the Aslan in the Disney movie was SICK!!

      Pity alot of the monsters she lists down in this version don't appear the 2005 film......Instead they get replaced by monsters that were not mentioned as existing in the narnian world like cyclopses, minoboars(cheesy name for such an interesting monster), ankleslicers(again a silly name), and harpies that look more like a type of vampire than a species of bird women......Sadly some of the creatures in Aslan's camp do not appear in the 2005 film either like naiads(not dryads. Dryads are tree spirits and they have appeared. Naiads are water spirits), and winged horses. Oddly enough, naiads do appear in the 2010 Dawn Treader film as replacements for the Sea People and they're basically mermaids made out of liquid, which is a huge screw up for both continuity and mythological lore as naiads in the books are described as living in the fresh waters of Narnia while merpeople and sea peopl inhabit the ocean, nor are naiads ever described as having fish tails like mermaids. Although there is this book called "The Crafting of Narnia that has alot of concept art for the first two films and on two pages one has concept art for naiads that look more true to their element of fresh water and are not mermaid like, and on the other is concept artwork for pegasuses and they are all colored a chestnut/brown color that makes me think of it as an homage to Fledge/Strawberry from The Magician's Nephew.

    The movie might not be a good adaptation to the book, or as good as this one, but the new one is a great movie, so stop calling it "sh*t" when most people like it, and it even managed to get an Oscar.

    I don't think anything is better or worse than anything else, just different. But I love the Aslan voice that I grew up with. If anyone can find an old vinyl (and is also out there on cassette) copy of the Caedmon abridged recordings ... the late Sir Ian Richardson narrated LWW doing all the voices remarkably well. His Aslan ... deep, resonant, delivered with perfect cadence and a gravitasse that evoke the emotional power and weight I imagine Aslan to embody.

    Things I like about this version: It has nymph characters in both female and male form, cool animated creatures like a pegasus, a cockatrice, a griffin, and a winged panther/cougar, satyrs don't look like furries, and the hags don't look like the result of human and bird cross-breeding experiments..
    Things I like about the recent films: Centaurs, fauns and satyrs have actual goat legs, mermaids, and monsters on the Witch's side are more distinguished instead of random looking monsters.

    @princessivoryrose The White Witch scene in Prince Caspian was in the book. The only part that wasn't in the book was the huge middle chunk where they try to attack the castle at night. Also, I think the beginning at the station was added in to the movie.

    I actually like how they did the costume design for those wood/treee men in Aslan's army. I really wish they used that sort of design for the dryads in the films. The wood men in this adaptation look more truer to Lewis' description of dryads in the books than the dryads in the films or even the nymphs in this sereis!

  • @Jakegothicsnake
    @Jakegothicsnake 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dude, i got this book called "The Crafting of Narnia" and it's about the first two recent Narnia films by Disney, and it has concept art for pegasi and they all resemble Fledge from The Magician's Nephew! It also had two concepts for naiads/water nymphs, and let me tell you, they are WAY better looking then those liquid mermaids you see in the recent VDT film! The 2005 LWW should have had those pegasi and naiads in the film! T_T lol
