I watched this on TV when I was 12 in 1979. I can still vividly recall that I was sick with fright and revulsion when the demon with the scissors jumped up to shave Aslan, and they were all laughing. I knew Aslan represented Jesus, bit nothing I saw or heard in church as a child scared me the way the scene from this cartoon did! And at the end, when the kids accidentally went back to WW2 Era England, and lost Narnia and their adulthood, that actually hurt me somehow 😢

@@SirJacob bro, this made turkish delight look fucking amazing.....until i went to the shop and got one for myself. Shit made me vomit i was so pissd. Jelly covered in chocolate 🤢
Just finished reading The Magician's Nephew and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and had to follow up by watching this classic from back in the day. Dont remember it being this long!
I'm seeing this cartoon for the very first time and the movie version is surprisingly look so accurate to this in almost every scene. Yea I know it's form the same story... it should be alike. But what I meant is when you have already seen both version and trying to compare the difference but see only a few is pretty impressive. And how Edmund talks to the Witch on the slade, the scene like wolves chasing, the horror of Aslan sacrifice, and many other small details are almost exactly like the new movie version and it's give me chills. Pretty sure this cartoon also played big role in inspiring how they made the movie the way it was.
Love the artwork that went into making this. It was simple but beautiful. A cartoon is a cartoon and should look like one and not something trying to mimic reality. Could have easily chosen to watch the T.V. Serial but chose this instead. The story is a fantasy and what better medium than a cartoon to portray it.
@SirJacob It's funny that at the beginning of this cartoon, it states that "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia, which is actually the second book of the series (chronologically speaking, not publication wise), as the first is "The Magicians Nephew", where Professor Kirk is a little boy in Victorian England! In my old giant volume of the Chronicles of Narnia, it opens up with "The Magicians Nephew" as the first book of seven. Although it was published after "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," in 1955, it was set prior to that book as a prequel. So there was a tiny bit of confusion when I saw that!
@@SirJacobHave you ever seen the old, live action, made for TV movies of each of the 7 books made by the BBC back in the '70s? I came across them at my local public library several years back; it was interesting!
I had this and i watched it so many damn times. I loved it. I used to wear my moms fur coat while I watched it and use a chopstick for a wand and pretend I was the witch lol 😂 we were a christian household and my dad got so mad once he saw me through the window while he was outside and was oike "you better not be doing what I think youre doing! If you're pretending to be that witch you're gonna get a spanking!" Lol oh lord.
@dominickeefe2454 right lol. I'd be standing on the couch with my giant fur coat in the middle of summer with my one chopstick "pew pew, kahpooh" while watching this. I think I liked her so much because she was so forbidden and I knew I wasn't supposed to like her. You know how kids are. You tell them to do this, and they don't. Tell them you are not to do or like this, and suddenly it's their favorite, lol.
Thanks for the upload. This movie was recorded from my parents and they let me watch it as a kid. I almost forgot it until Tumnus played that flute. The melody instantly brought back all the nostalgia.
How many people can honestly say that after watching this film they opened their wardrobe door to take a look and see if narnia really did exist.. I did.. 😉
@@cixi.8309 I highly recommend "The Magicians Nephew" audiobook. It's on TH-cam. Another chronicle of Narnia, it's very relaxing when falling asleep or waking up.
@@thecajunphoenixI noticed that. All other adaptations of the White Witch has the actress screaming her head off, but Tilda Swinton only yells for about 2 or 3 lines.
This was my first encounter with the material. The one that inspired me to search the depths of the front coat closet. I never found Narnia, but there was always the hope every time I checked. It seemed possible. It would've been nice to have shared this memory with my daughter. She's gone now, but she was the truest believer ever. She would've appreciated her daddy looking for Narnia as a child. I can only hope to meet her there someday.
Its funny. I was born in 96 and im only 27 now. As a child I had this movie on VHS. I watched it so many times! I seem to be one of the younger adults here who fondly remember this movie
Did you catch that at the beginning of this cartoon, it incorrectly states that "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" is the first book of the Chronicles of Narnia, which is actually the second book of the series, as the first book is "The Magicians' Nephew" (chronologically speaking, not publication wise), where Professor Kirk is a little boy in Victorian England! In that book, it tells of how Narnia came to be, as well as the magical wardrobe, among other fascinating details like the lamp post, etc. "The Magicians Nephew" was written in 1954, published in '55, but was set prior to "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" which was published in 1950 In my copy of the Chronicles of Narnia book series, it opens up with "The Magicians Nephew" as the first in the series of seven. As a little boy, my mother and I wore out those books because we read them so much! One Christmas when I was little, my parents bought me the giant hardcover book version which had all seven books compiled into one big volume!! It was one of my favorite Christmas presents ever!!!
Stephen thorne did a great job at playing Aslan the lion in this. About 10 years later. He also played the same character in the radio adaptation on BBC radio.
I remember watching this on Family Channel when it was on there. My first experience with watching a Narnia movie and it became an instant favourite. It played a few more times on the channel but I couldn’t tell when it was going to play and I had always wanted to put it onto a tape to keep but it didn’t work out. My library did have it for a short time on dvd but it later was gone probably discarded and went on to be a book sale item. So good to see it again after all these years.
Love this version, found it online with the American audio which is the one I saw when I was very young, I prefer this with the American audio, the white Witch is hilariously funny
@@giustobuffo from what I've researched is that when this was made back in the late 70s early 80s it was meant to be an educational film in schools to encourage young children to read more books, it came out in America also but they thought some of the characters voices sounded too English and not American enough so they kept some character voices the same Peter and Lucy and Aslan etc but re-voiced the rest to make it more relatable to Americans, hope that answers your question 🙂
@@robertdoherty5316 I saw this version in America when it was first shown, rather than the American accent version. It was perfectly relatable and easy to understand. There was really no need to make an additional version with American voices. I just saw the other version here on YT. The queen's yelling was over-the-top in that one. Rather annoying, really.
I remember the animation being better than this 😅 loving watching this now as an adult. I've almost finished reading the book to my child, we'll definitely be back to watch this when we're done.
I highly recommend going back and reading the magicians nephew or listening to the audiobook. It's the first book in the series and also my favorite. Thank you for visiting!
It seems so old now, but at the time, it was only like 15 or 16 years old, lol. Omg this makes me feel dated. It was a great little cartoon. I've seen this one so many times, and the modern version quite a few times and read the book god only knows how many times. And my dad read it many of those times when I was little. Chronicles of narnia is a wonderful magical series.
One of my favorite stories of all time, and very well done too. The exact dialogue from the book is impressive and the animation really takes me back to childhood with the sound track~~ quite enjoyable~~ thank you Sir Jacob!
I remember watching this around Xmas time at my primary school during the mid 1980s. Haven't seen it in a long while. This was before the BBC did their versions of the Narnia books. Great stories.
The BBC version (live-action) was the only version I saw until the remake in the 2000s. This is a wonderfully accurate portrayal of the book, right down to the exact quotes of dialogue. Thanks for posting this.
stunning still . my grandma had a handmade lion on her spare bedroom bed i remember going in and picking him up and calling him aslan he did come home and was well loved , when they did such dreadful things to him i ran to our toybox and checked on him , i think this was shown at easter on itv at easter
was this not the uk version i thought mr beaver was arthur lowes voice and mrs beaver june whitfield, mr tumnus was lesley philips and the queen was sheila handcock now has this got the u s titles ending as it was the childrens televison work shop who produced this and melendez productions also did the uk tv cartoon for the perishers oddly very like the peanuts kids
I'm so glad you enjoyed the nostalgia. If you like this story i reccomend going back to the first book in the series. The magicians nephew. It's my favorite. ☺
Wow I really like this. Its faithful to the book (so far im only 30 minutes in), which is always a pet peeve of mine when it comes to book to screen adaptations.
I believe I read that Aslan wasn't meant to just symbolize Christ. He was literally meant to be the same being we know as Jesus Christ. In a world of Talking Beasts, He of course would appear as a Talking Beast, just as He appeared as a man in our world. In Voyage of The Dawn Treader Lewis wrote “I am [in your world].’ said Aslan. ‘But there I have another name. You must learn to know me by that name. This was the very reason why you were brought to Narnia, that by knowing me here for a little, you may know me better there.”
I haven't seen this for decades, and yeah, I cried when aslan died, and when the ousla came when Charlie lost, foxy ,he lost his tale, piggling bland left, for over the hills and far away.😢
I remember watching this during my trip to Alaska with my parents as a kid and when I was watching this I lost a baby tooth but I didn't know that this cartoon of The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe was from 1979
Thank you for posting this, for I had heard so much about this particular television special after the book was read to me in school and many years before I had seen the Walt Disney adaptation in the movie theater…”Once a King and Queen of Narnia, always a King and Queen of Narnia!!!”…Karl Schumaker 🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁
@@SirJacob I am waiting for the next Narnia movie project to be released since they have already released the first three books(“The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe”,”Prince Caspian” and “Voyage of the Dawn Treader”)…”Things don’t always happen the same way twice!!!”…Karl Schumaker 🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁
I didn't realize until I was much older the presence of Greek mythology in this movie. It's all over the place, a much more eerie movie now than before.
C.S. Lewis' entire bibliography (Narnia included) revolves around the Medieval Worldview, which taught that mythology as well as the Bible, points to Christ.
wow i've never seen this movie before! it really highlights dealing with people in a healthy way even after the brother betrays them the lion says leave it in the past

I hope you enjoyed the nostalgia. 🧃🙂
My Dad Recorded this for us in the 80s we watched it over and over... great cartoon movie story
I'm 52 years old now or rather 52 years young. And I can remember watching this movie as a kid. Loved it then and still love it now. A true classic. 1979 WOW!!! Do I feel old lol.
I am so pleased to hear you enjoyed the picture. You're never too old for cartoons my friend i was born in 92 and i'm 31 now. Time flies but the memories are forever. 💙
your not alone, lol, so do I , I am 52 and loved this as a kid. To me they made better movies for kids back then, even now a tear from music to the wonderful story telling.
This made me 8 years old all over again. ❤
This brings back awesome memories of watching this as a wee lad. Good times.
I'm glad I could bring you some nostalgia my friend. 🙂
How cool was this, an almost four decade throwback to my childhood!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it my brother. Picked the thumbnail image myself. 😅
I always loved the beautiful music score in this version.
I'm glad you liked it broski. Thank you for visiting. 🙂
The level of nostalgia is off the charts. Im 30, havent seen this since i was like 5....didnt realise the animation was like this lol
I'm 30 as well, April 7th 1992. I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend. 🙂
@@SirJacob bro, this made turkish delight look fucking amazing.....until i went to the shop and got one for myself. Shit made me vomit i was so pissd. Jelly covered in chocolate 🤢
@@dee3444 Bro, she enchanted them. 😆 You gotta infuse them with cannabis don't you know? ☺️
@@SirJacob now you have my attention 👊🏾😎
I love how they did the audio on this. It's so simple and clear without lots of unnecessary noises.
Thank you, the fan base is divided upon these versions. 😅
There are different versions of this? I'm UK so this is the audio i know. @SirJacob
Love these old school animations!😮
Just finished reading The Magician's Nephew and The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and had to follow up by watching this classic from back in the day. Dont remember it being this long!
I'm glad you enjoyed this my friend. I tried to get a good thumbnail image for it. 🙂
@@SirJacob you got a good one
The true movie of narniah, i cant believe it became a relic of the past, this is a treasure
I'm glad you enjoyed the nostalgia. 🙂
I hope you enjoyed the picture my friend. 🙂
so many versions of this but i loved the real life 2005 movie
This is a nice animated movie, but I love the 1988 BBC Mini-Series and the 2005 Disney movie.
I don't
Been looking for this movie. Watched it as a child.
I loved the soundtrack to this. That opening score is beautiful.
Thank you!!
I hope you enjoy. Check out, "The Wind In The Willows". I have an animated movie of it as well. 😊
I never heard of this version before! And I’m a big fan of the books!
This is the UK version. I hope you enjoyed it. My favorite book is The Magician's Nephew. ☺
This is the UK version. I hope you enjoyed it. My favorite book is The Magician's Nephew. ☺
That's great😂
@dominickeefe2454 right lol.
That story is so cute, thank you for sharing and I hope you enjoyed the picture. 🧃🙂
@@SirJacob I love the picture. It's a classic. Still holds up all these years later.
@emdeejay7432 I appreciate you sharing your nostalgia with us. I imagine most people feel it when reading this series. 💙
Thanks for the upload.
This movie was recorded from my parents and they let me watch it as a kid. I almost forgot it until Tumnus played that flute. The melody instantly brought back all the nostalgia.
I'm glad you enjoyed it bro. Fresh nostalgia. 🧃🙂
How many people can honestly say that after watching this film they opened their wardrobe door to take a look and see if narnia really did exist.. I did.. 😉
I hope you enjoyed the picture my friend. 🧃☺️
How many people even have wardrobes?
I used to have a look in my wardrobe but there was no Narnia there
This takes me waaaaay back. Thanks for sharing, friend!
No prob my friend 😊
The YT algorithm is mysterious but never wrong. This was wonderful.
As a child this scared me but was so good!
I love it when I was little
The White Witch is so amazing, not even speaking about the voice actress. Professional.
Thank you for visiting ☺️
@@SirJacob thanks for the content!)
@@cixi.8309 I highly recommend "The Magicians Nephew" audiobook. It's on TH-cam. Another chronicle of Narnia, it's very relaxing when falling asleep or waking up.
@@SirJacob why thank you! I really hoped that there was also a cartoon or a film for that one, but no.(
Sheila Hancock provides her voice for the UK version.
Coincidentally Tilda Swinton looked exactly like the animated White Witch.
Not quite because Tilda Swinton gives a more subtle menace to her portrayal of Jadis The White Witch in the live-action version.
@@thecajunphoenixI noticed that. All other adaptations of the White Witch has the actress screaming her head off, but Tilda Swinton only yells for about 2 or 3 lines.
That is what I like
It really shows how serious the White witch is like she's supposed to be in the book
I was read to, and read the Chronicles of Narnia many many times as a child! Never saw a movie of it. Thank you for sharing this.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for visiting!🙂
I'm glad you enjoyed the picture bro. Happy early thanksgiving. 😊
Its funny. I was born in 96 and im only 27 now. As a child I had this movie on VHS. I watched it so many times! I seem to be one of the younger adults here who fondly remember this movie
I saw this as a child. Brings back wonderful memories
I'm glad you enjoyed the picture! Thank you for visiting! 🧃☺️
I remember watching this one morning during Christmas holiday around '82. I was 7.
"The Magicians Nephew" was written in 1954, published in '55, but was set prior to "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe" which was published in 1950
In my copy of the Chronicles of Narnia book series, it opens up with "The Magicians Nephew" as the first in the series of seven.
As a little boy, my mother and I wore out those books because we read them so much! One Christmas when I was little, my parents bought me the giant hardcover book version which had all seven books compiled into one big volume!! It was one of my favorite Christmas presents ever!!!
Yes and The Magicians Nephew is my favorite of all.
Talking purely chronologically, which number book would "The Horse & his Boy" be?
@@cameronjames3499 "The Horse and His Boy" is the third book, chronologically speaking, of the seven.
Earlier sets of the books were numbered in order of publication.
@@cameronjames34993 - it took place during the last part of this one, before the Pevensies returned to England.
Stephen thorne did a great job at playing Aslan the lion in this. About 10 years later. He also played the same character in the radio adaptation on BBC radio.
Thank you for the heads up! I hope you enjoyed the nostalgia!
Saw this on the television machine in 79.
I hope you enjoyed revisiting it. 🧃😎
@@SirJacob Yes. I finished looking at it on my wall screen earlier. Thank you.
Me too.
😂 I had to fast forward and watch the boy stuff his face full of Turkish delight. I knew as a kid how ill manerd he was
The only adaptation I accept.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. 😅
Same
Love this version, found it online with the American audio which is the one I saw when I was very young, I prefer this with the American audio, the white Witch is hilariously funny
I'm so glad you enjoyed it my friend. ☺️
What is another audio? This is the only one I’ve known.
@@giustobuffo Mandela effect? ☺️🤙🏻
A piece of my childhood. I don't think I seen this since it first aired in '79.
Pleased to bring you this wonderful piece. 🧃☺️
oh this is precious ❤🥰
“A daughter of Eve or a son of Adam”, such an innocent phrase that would never be in a children’s television special today.
I've only heard of this series beforehand and I'm so glad that this is my first impression of it. I enjoyed every minute!

I highly recommend the audiobooks. 🙂🤙🏻

I'm jealous.
I hope you enjoy the picture. 🧃☺️
Awww that's so cool 😢
He's actually better than christ, because he's not 100 percent sure he'll be resurrected. He had more skin in the game than Christ.
perfect combo of music and great voice acting! the animation was charming as well....
I used to have this movie on videotape!! It certainly brings back childhood memories!! God bless you!!❤
