Junior and Fats were influenced by a lot of the same players, but they developed very different styles. Junior bristles when he gets this question. Only Junior sounds like himself; only Fats sounded like himself. Btw, Fats didn't "change everything." He and the band played rythm & blues and blues classics that were originally released in the 40s and 50s. They just played that style with great skill and a love for the originals.
Fats has (had) the uncanny ability to play precisely the notes my brain wants to hear at exactly the right moment, with the perfect tone. On a good night, Junior usually plays the last thing you expect to hear at any given moment.

the tone of junior's stuff from this era is so "throaty." That and Kaplan's incredibly supportive playing make this a classic.
