Name's Jamie and I totally dig the blues, even though there's barely any here in Philly!
Why I Play the Blues

Kim Wilson at EC Kid Ramos Benefit
มุมมอง 36510 ปีที่แล้ว
Kim Wilson leads a stellar band with Kid Ramos on the left guitar, and Jewel Tone Doug Deming on the right. Lots of money was raised towards Kid's cancer bills, but much more is needed. Be as generous as you can be to help this outstanding musician and family man. His medical donation page is at Delta Groove Productions /newspost/donate-kid-ramos-medical-fund/. Thanks

Bald Headed Woman with Dennis Gruenling
This is an absolute gem. Anyone got any idea what happened to the classicjazzguitar website that he mentioned? It's offline....
This is gold
I love Butter Top! I have heard different versions...all good and never played the same way twice! I'm almost done learning his part from the original studio recording. What a blast!

Omg, thanks for posting this. Junior is the real thing.
Chops for daze! ✨🇺🇸🎸🏆✨
First time I listen to this version, thanks for uploading, it's a great one!
I can't believe he said he didn't like Roy Buchanan. It must have been in a bad setting in a bad time in his life when he saw Roy, because some of his recording are the greatest guitar playing ever, period. One of the greatest overall performers ever. At his best his shows were like religious experiences.
Or it could be a matter of taste/personal preference
The legendary Slippery Noodle Inn in Indianapolis would book touring national acts on weekdays so it was with glee I went to see Jr. on a Tuesday night. Lo and behold some fool in the sparse crowd requests Stevie Ray Vaughn! LOL! I asked Jr. about that during his break and he said it happens all the time. Imagine that!
i could listen to this chap all day......
It's an F9flat5 if it's over F in the bass. Nice to hear ya Junior. Lookin forward to seeing ya again soon!
Can anyone help me to understand what Jr. says at 9'20'' ? "I think one of the greatest records of all the time is ......... xxxxxxx"... fuck I can't understand! Sorry I'm Italian, my English is not so good. Thanx guys 😎
Its a record by Otis Spann and Robert Jr. Lockwood a duo recording. Otis Spann is the Blues. As is discussed in the video there were two recordings in the series with St. Louis Jimmy as a guest vocalist who sings Going Down Slow. Terrific records. The genius of Robert is on full display as he comps to Spanns keys. Great stuff.
Is there a part two to this?
He name checks many greats here but around 24 minutes he mentions Peter Green but then goes off at a tangent! I'd love to hear any Greeny stories Junior has.....
He's playing Matt Stubbs' guitar. Stubbs is Charlie Musselwhite's guitar player, and is a great instrumentalist and a band leader in his own right
I don't know much about Roland amps, but the sound is awesome all the same! Great choice of tune and really tasteful playing!
Beautiful! I'm looking for the lyrics of this tune, but I can't find it anywhere...I suppose an original version does not exist...since I'm from Italy, I have some difficulty understanding all the words...
Pro Junior
lol he doesn't want to show you that chord
He doesn't really show anything for anyone.. :D
Howard Carroll of the Dixie Hummingbirds was the best to me
riff my man riff dragging the shitty out of them cord
At 21:59 , he asked Junior about a "Viking Theme Song"....It's actually called "En la gruta del rey de la montaña" or "In The Hall Of The Mountain King".....now MY questions is how in world did Junior stumble across THAT tune and decide to play it on guitar?
LOL! I was in a band that did a lot of novelty shit and we used to play that. We even kept speeding it up "just like the original."
who is he talking about in the beginning?
Pee Wee Crayton
Junior, in my book, is the best guitarist in the jump blues genre. The chord bends blow me away, he's got style!
They all have their own quirks and strong points. I find that Jr. has a hurky jerky way of phrasing but he's melodically/harmonically the most adventurous. But they're all great, Hollywood Fats, Duke Robillard, Charlie Baty, Ronnie Earl, Alex Schultz........
Very cool! That Vox amp sounds great! Love your playing! I need to get a ditto looper.
indeed
Awesome video Thanks for sharing ! M
Nice.
It's gotta be that Who song Shel Talmy had arranged.
May I ask what is the box that sits on top of the amp? Any info about what he uses would be helpful. Thank you for posting!
What a day this was!!
could someone post, the name of that chord book (s) mickey someone book 1&2 my life won't be right til I stop, butcherin, half the chords I play,, Jr, is making that clear,, saw him 91, in Ben Loman ca, little club (hen flings) I knew he was the real fupin deal after two numbers thanks for a great demonstration video
+Pat Coughlin Its called Mickey Bakers Complete Course In Jazz Guitar.
@@JiriMarsicek This is the same Mickey Baker of Micky and Sylvia fame. A genius guitar player.
This guy is so gay! Fucking idiot
I talked JR into the bald style and helped shave his head..lol..go baldies!!!!
WATSON BLUES MASTER
Having a ball on youtube with Junior!
Lost count of how many times I've watched this. Great post cat.
sounds like he grew up in 50s Chicago
+dotfret Campbell, CA !!!!
Frankie ERVIN
Love your playing ..Thx.
amazing playing man, I am from the UK, and possibly a even bigger JR Watson fan than you, I have a eastwood airline stratatone h44 copy, had if for years, need to get me one of these gold tops, sounds HUGE! I am a lefty, so I could only get the gibson custom shop reissues, but man, I've got the itch thanks to you.
Is he plugged into a Pro Junior? Sounds great!
Just curious is that a Strymon Flint reverb? He's using or is the reverb from the amp ? Thx Great info, great guy. I watched it twice just to hear the stories....love it
yeah that is a flint! awesome pedal
@ Jr. SugarFingers Linton You ain't too shabby your own self! I've been meaning to get up to the Red Lion jam. I used to live in the city, know Big Ed, and most of the players. Maybe we'll get a chance to play together some day. Are you in NY or LA?
I'm the last person to toot my own horn, but I think it's the unspoken common language of the blues that makes this clip above average, and of course having players of uncommon talent doesn't hurt one bit!
Thanks again. Matt Daniels really stole the show at the IBC in Memphis. He's an awesome player with great feel for this kind of groove. Kenny and Mike have been the longtime rhythm section for harpist Steve Guyger and the top acts in the 4-state area of Pa/Nj/De/NY. I'm just an old fart!
