💥 *UPDATE 10.18.2021:* Choice Privileges is now a hotel transfer parter! You can transfer at a 1:2 ratio, meaning 1,000 Citi ThankYou points becomes 2,000 Choice Privileges points.
💥 *UPDATE 4.19.2021:* You can now redeem Citi ThankYou points at 1.0¢ per point for cash back! PLUS you can redeem whatever quantify you want ... e.g. 1,729 points = $17.29 cash back.

I used to have this card. Because of the large number of 3X categories, it’s nice if you don’t have lots of of cards. It’s very “all purpose “ in that sense. But if you have quite a few cards that cover those same 3X categories, and if you value trip protection, it may not be for you. My other cards cover most of those categories. So, when they slashed travel protection, I couldn’t find a reason to keep it. Another clear, well done video, Mark. Thanks.

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Smart move since the Costco Anywhere Visa card usually doesn't have a signup bonus 👍 Just so you're aware, the Costco card only lets you redeem cash back 1x per year starting in February (i.e. you can't cash out whenever you want). Also, it's issued in the form of a certificate redeemable at Costco. If you want actual cash back to use anywhere, then you've gotta go into a warehouse and redeem it manually for cash. If you're ok with those things, then the Costco Visa is a VERY good cash back card.

Personally I love Citi Premier. The multipliers are useful, you aren't tied to the travel portal, and the travel partners are better than a lot of people give them credit for. They lack travel protections, but you can easily get around that if you transfer points with Citi but book the flight with another card.
It was strange that they mentioned gift cards in the ad because you're always better off taking the cash at 1 cpp. I hope they aren't thinking about needing the cash option. It's one of the things I like about the card that stands out compared to other cards.

Amex BBP is a no AF card that makes most mid tier credit cards obsolete. And Citi Premier isn't an exception.
You will need to spend $5500+ per year in those 3x categories to offset the annual fee. (95/0.017 = 5588.235)
Sure, you can get a $100 discount if you spend $500 on a single hotel stay, but Citi's portal isn't exactly the cheapest plus you still need to spend $400 to offset the annual fee.
Considering the opportunity cost, it's a no for me.

This card desperately needs a revamp, especially with COVID and the cancellation of all the travel protection options. Also, after doing research, it seems like the point value is worth less (always something to research with a points reward card) than the competition like the AMEX Gold or Chase Sapphire. So yes, the card design is nice, but I don't see the value right now. Citi needs to re-vamp this card.

That's pathetic as a cash bonus for $4k spending. About what I expect from Citi. I can find cards with no fee and a $200 bonus on $500 spending.

It was a great value travel credit card before they got rid of all the insurance perks and other travel benefits. Rental car insurance, trip delay/cancellation insurance, and lost luggage insurance. Add on 3x on flights, hotels, AirBnB, rental cars, cruises, and car gas made it great at a $95 annual fee.
No more insurance of any kind, and no 3x on rental cars & cruises. The new 3x on groceries is nice, but not worth keeping when Amex Gold is in consideration.

Well said 💥 Amex Gold is a great choice to earn travel points for at-home food spend 🍔✈️ Do you have the Amex Gold yourself?

@@MarkReese Yes! I had the Citi Premier too before they gutted the insurance out of it. Afterwards, I downgraded to the Citi Double cash.

@@akin242002 - Awesome 🥇 Good choice of downgrade too. Citi DC is fantastic on its own ✌️

Looks like this has increased the bonus to 80k in points. Only thing I am confused on is can you get the bonus again if you cancel the card and apply for a different one in 24 months?

"Bonus ThankYou® Points are not available if you received a new cardmember bonus for Citi Rewards+®, Citi ThankYou® Preferred, Citi ThankYou® Premier/Citi Premier® or Citi Prestige®, or if you have closed any of these accounts, in the past 24 months." Thats from their website and it doesnt specify 24 months

Yep the new 80K offer is phenomenal 💯

No, if you cancel your existing Citi Premier Card, then the 24-month clock starts over. My recommendation is to do a product change, then apply. However, I'd ask the representative if the product change would count as 'closing' the account. If not, then you should be good to go. If yes, then you may not want to proceed.
