  • The Citi Double Cash credit card is VERY well known as an easy-to-use cash back credit card with no annual fee. Click "Show More" to see Ad Disclosure.
That makes it one of the best credit cards for beginners (later in your first year after building with a secured credit card or other option) and also one of the best cash back credit cards you can use either as an all-in-one card, or to maximize your non-bonus spend (i.e. the things that don’t earn more than 1.0% - 1.5% cash back on other credit cards).

CITI DOUBLE CASH THANK YOU POINTS - CONVERTING
You can convert your cash back into points in the Citi rewards portal. You’d want to consider doing this if you like travel rewards AND also have the Citi Prestige Card and/or the Citi Premier Card. Those 2 premium credit cards will unlock the ability to use Citi Transfer Partners (i.e. convert your points into airline miles of other programs). In a way, this makes the Citi Double Cash Card function a lot like the Capital One Venture Card, which earns 2X miles on all purchases.

WHAT ARE CITI THANKYOU POINTS WORTH?
1.7¢ ea. toward Travel Via Transfer Partners (on average | 10,000 points = $170)
1.0¢ ea. toward Travel Via Citi ThankYou Portal (10,000 points = $100)
0.5¢ ea. for Cash Back (10,000 points = $50 | Exception: 1.0 ea. for Cash Back ONLY with Citi Prestige Card)
    WHAT THIS ALL MEANS
    - Stay with Cash Back if you want cash back rewards
    - Convert to Citi ThankYou Points if you want travel rewards AND have Citi Premier Card and/or Citi Prestige Card
    GOOD TO KNOW
You can apply for 1 Citi personal credit card every 8 days, up to 2 Citi personal credit cards every 65 days.
    SHOULD YOU GET IT?
    YES if you…
    - Prefer cash back rewards
    - Prefer travel rewards points AND have Citi Premier Card or Citi Prestige Card
    - Want a credit card with no annual fee
    - Want to maximize non-bonus spend
    - Want a credit card to build credit (over the long term as a keeper card)
    NO if you…
    - Have another 2% cash back credit card
    - Prefer travel rewards but don’t want to add an annual fee credit card
    - Prefer travel rewards but don’t value Citi’s transfer partners
    OTHER CARDS TO CONSIDER
A few other cash back credit cards to use alongside the Citi Double Cash include the Amex Blue Cash Everyday Card, either the Chase Freedom Unlimited or the Chase Freedom Flex, and the Bank of America Cash Rewards Card. If you want to travel the world for free, then the Capital One Venture credit card could be a good alternative too because you get access to a lot of airline transfer partners with just that one card alone.

    👉 *UPDATES 3.28.2022:*
    (a) Cash back rewards are now issued as Citi ThankYou points, where 1 point = 1¢ ($0.01). Example: $100 = 10,000 points, and vice versa.
    (b) The minimum redemption amount of $25 has been eliminated. You can now redeem any amount you like, including 1 point for $0.01.

@@ltetobago - Nice great cards both of them 👍 Minus the fact that their tech is pretty outdated, Citi has been great to work with overall. Got my 1st card with them back in 2015 and have had a good experience. However, rather than focusing on the bank, I suggest focusing on the card itself. The best approach is to get the cards that earn high rewards in the areas in which you spend the majority of your money 💳

Utilities I can see but how do you do this with Medical? This not pulled through your job? Automotive used through bank lender? Usually see them use their own payment system "powered by such and such" or old school mail but it's 2020. Insurance specify car, life, home etc what type. Been rejected when called on various of these things and curious on how you "did it" since you said "use to" guessing no longer going off of that.

      auto insurance payments
      storage unit rental
      cell phone bill
      cable bill
      electric bill
      medical or dental copayments
Pretty much anything that accepts a credit card payment that is not covered by 1 of my other category cards, i put on my citi DC. It usaully equates $1,200 - $1,400 a mth in spend.

@@MarkReese I know this is a 3 month old comment but like I said before in previous comments on other videos I had in interest in other cards like the BofA Customized cash rewards. I currently have the Chase Trifecta with the CSP, CFF, CFU and a Discover Card with the 5% rotating categories. I think I'm happy with that but I kinda want to get the possibly cards from other issuers except AMEX since they r not accepted everywhere and I have the Discover since it's my first credit card so I have to keep that, it will be 10 year old account in two days from now. It's hard to debate for me between Capital One and Citi. I've heard C1 isn't too generous with CLI and does a triple pull but that No Foreign Transaction Fee on all their cards interests me. If I was going to get 1 C1 card I would pick the Quicksilver. But in Citi terms I would most likely get the Citi DC and Custom Cash, of course I would have to reapply for the DC as a new applicant. I may still consider getting the DC and CC at some point but I'm not sure if I want to keep track of multiple credit cards and 2 different ecosystems. I'm not interested in the Citi Premier since I'm mostly interested in cash back and not interested in paying a second annual fee. What's your opinion on having the Chase Trifecta with the CSP and having the Double Cash and Custom Cash in the wallet to have Citi compete with Chase? I already have all 3 of the personal Chase UR cards I want so maybe it's time to get cards from other issuers. 😁

I'm cool with just cash back on the Citi Cards.
