  • 3:40 for some testing . I Didn't mention it in the video but the total surface area of each block is 1080 m² or 11625 ft².
    I ordered some new bio media to have a look at and do some tests with I also got some more K1 micro for the moving bed

    I have both the Blocks and Spheres. I loved the spheres more though as my sump compartment space is limited. So far the media is better at maintaining its structure, whilst the Marine Pure crumbles easily.

    Always good to research how to increase the capacity filtration, for your aquarium or pond.

    Great videos mate. Just wondering about water tests you perform would be good indicator to prove disprove claims about all this biomedia . Am all for it but have just put biohome ultimate in external on tank. Curious as to how much each kilo can cope with and how long they take to mature. Suppose good test would be two identical setups treated the same way with different media. See how they perform. Its expensive stuff and they all make huge claims about how great they are.

    I just put two blocks into my sump of a young marine FOWLR with semi noxious corals (I know, it's no longer a FOWLR then) to raise the bioload handling capacity. This video is interesting. You seem to have enough capacity for several times your tanks volume. Other than simple parameter testing, is there any way to determine the actual bacteria loading of of bio media? At what point does more do nothing or is more better in all respects?

      I like to just fill up the space I have I know it might be overkill but to much doesn't hurt but not enough can. Apart from water testing I don't know if you can tell to much bacteria you have. On some medias you can see the bacteria for example on K1 it is pure white and as the bacteria grows on it it goes brown some ceramic and sintered glass medias also show it on the surfaces but that is not an exact science :) The 2 blocks you have just put in should be good for a lot of bioload though :) I like them better than the more expensive marine pure blocks as they are fragile and break easy in comparison the the maxpects

    Hi, do you recommend the blocks or the spheres or both? i want to use this the the sumps of my 200 gallon and 120 gallon FOWLR tanks and remove the live rock rubble. How much would you advise for each tank? Thanks

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi , both seem good depends on space and layout. They claim 1 box of blocks (2 blocks) or 1kg of the spheres treat 750 gal but I would probably half what they say to be safe. It also says that 1 block or 10 of the balls can replace 10kg /20lbs of live rock. I currently have the blocks in my sump and the balls in my shower / trickle filter and they seem sot be doing the job.

    Silly question, but can the Maxspect ones be cut, i want to put one in my Juwel 240 Rio lol but think it may be a few MM that needs shaving off the brick.

    Can this be use for denitrate? Will the anarobic bacteria colonize in it?

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Allegedly it does according to the manufacturer also the structure of the media looks like it would allow that. I have not actually tested this on its own though as I also have lots of other media in my sump that should lower nitrate so I would not know if it was this, the biohome, the siporax or everything doing a bit.

    Does the bio blocks disitengrate over time?

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. in my experience the maxspect ones do not disintergrate at all they are very strong I have had them in over a year and not a grain has come off. I have tried marine pure ones and they are very brittle and disintegrate. I have 4 of the maxpect ones in my sump and they are very good

    its said "The Bio-Spheres/Bio-Block should be cleaned or replaced every 6 months for optimal results"....with the high price tag for this price??? what the heck.....

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I personally do not believe that. They are trying to sell you more media. It is a porous structure media the same as most sintered glass biomedia (although this is tiny beads all stuck together) and that doesn't need replacing so I cannot see why this would need replacing I am planning on keeping it in for a very long time the same as I do my biohome media and my Siporax media.

      @KelsAquariums  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, honestly Super hard to tell as I have tons of different bio medias in my sump my nitrates are lowish but it would be hard to pinpoint what specifically is lowering them. I didn't do any controlled testing. soz for not being more use .

      @@KelsAquariums hi there what are your nirates sitting on 5-40ppm?
      How much media do you have in your sump?
      Do you do water changes once a week or monthly. Would you recommend this overbiohome? Do you notice any reduction in nirates

    • @RJ-vb7gh

      @@KelsAquariums No problem... I'm just seeing all kinds of claims by certain bio-media that they handle nitrates when they really can't possibly have much if any anoxic area inside them. Everyone seems so excited to buy and install one media or another, but then I never seem to see a follow up down the road demonstrating that they really worked. I've been keeping and breeding for for over 55 years and have seen so many "new" things come and go, I've gotten cynical.

    • @KelsAquariums
      @KelsAquariums  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RJ-vb7gh Yeah I have some of the bigger named nitrate removing bio media in my sumps and canisters but in all honesty I can't tell any difference from them or cheap lava rock and sponges but I also don't have any issues either. I also plant most tanks and use terrestrial plants like pothos or peace lilies and grow them out of the tanks so no chance of knowing what actually deals with some of the nitrates in my tanks. Sorry not to be more help
