    The Air3 Deluxe HS does a great job for a non Apple device. Great sound and noise-cancelling. I think it's the best earbuds for less than $50, but even better than most that cost over one hundred dollars. The App needs to be updated, so it doesn't have issues when you use it.

    LDAC is not obviously noticeable but subtle in most music. However, it is most noticeable in FLAC/WAV ASMR files. LDAC really improves the asmr experience.

    Recently bought the Air 3 Deluxe HS for my Galaxy S21 Ultra. The sound quality is good, especially when streaming Apple Music in regular Lossless (haven't tried the Hi-Res one). I think the LDAC codec will work mostly on Android devices, but on iOS devices will work on AAC codec instead.

  • @DrivenKeys
    @DrivenKeys ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I can confirm Android defaults LDAC to "Adaptive", but after forcing it to 990/909 and toggling down to 330/303, testing with some high-res files of different genres, I can't hear the difference with these speakers. It still sounds better than AAC. Open ear buds are rare these days, so these are some of the best you can get these days at any price. They DESTROY the $150 Sony Linkbuds in sound quality, for anybody comparing them. I skipped the sketchy SoundPeats app, you don't need it if your phone has its own EQ app.

      Android AAC sucks, Apple AAC is amazing.

    Thanks for the upload! The issue is that bluetooth audio is the second encoding and it's literally the same as, say, transcoding mp3 to aac. As we all know lossy to lossy is bad and this is what is happening with bluetooth audio. This is why I do not mind to listen to my 128kbps Opus with LDAC: The smaller the second generation loss the better, and I do indeed notice a subtle difference in select details compared to bt aac. Delivering 128k Opus with 990k LDAC may look weird but it's the closest to getting the Opus 1 to 1 onto the earbud! I'm longing for the day Opus gets employed in the bluetooth world itself.

      This one opened my eyes about using BT earbuds! So much talk about CODECS and many times we forgot that BT Audio is REENCODING the source! It's like video "transcoding" (that i avoid at all costs, because the source is generally reencoded - who has bluray anyway?? :D)

    This video saved my user experience with my Edifier Neo buds pro.
    I'm getting frequent audio cut-offs using LDAC codec with my Lenovo Legion 2 phone. It's very annoying.
    After changing the codec to AAC at the system settings/developers option, no more sound cutoff. And it didn't reduce the sound quality imo. I'm not an audiophile. Just an avg Spotify listener.

      @@dexterm7666 I agree. I can’t hear the difference between ldac and sbc/aac. I’d much rather the more stable connection and the better battery life that you get with the so called ‘inferior’ codecs. I am beginning to suspect that LDAC is marketing snake oil.

      Ya'll listening via streaming which is already a hell of an experience. To have a smooth experience, it's better to use local files and preferably lossless like flac, wav, etc.
      I have both lossless and lossy which is m4a (aac), opus, flac and wav. I can say LDAC does make a difference compared to AAC but not for Aptx. LDAC/Aptx improve sound quality by 10%~ is what I would say.

  • @VintagedMillennial
    @VintagedMillennial 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Its all in the cymbals. That's where I can hear a difference with LDAC, if any, and maybe 3% max.
    As all things audio go, law of diminishing returns is in effect, hardware and software matter, and our brain has its own DSP that sometimes just gets wonky and tricks us.
    Sound wise, LDAC doesnt make as much of a difference as it did 5+years ago and now that everything is truly wireless its hard to justify its use, especially on semi-in ears.
    LDAC receiver on a Fiio or Qudelix bluetooth amp with wired iems, now thats a different story.
    Thanks for the review!

      Completely agree with you on all points! I personally use LDAC on my FiiO BTR5 to make the best out of bluetooth (not to forget set it at 990kbps)

    Nice review! I've agreed on almost all of your points. But I have some minor refining.
    1) Your statement at 01:33 "if you have Android 8 and above you will have LDAC build-in" is not 100% correct. The quote you've sited "enabling every OEM to integrate this standard into their own Android devices freely" means that OEM have to hire software developers to do the job. In the real world there are Android devices ver.8 and above without LDAC because developers have to implement LDAC codec support.
    2) 60 ms of LDAC delay you've measured in a latency test was highly likely not a LDAC codec (or at least not the latency of LDAC itself) but some other codec because in published tests LDAC do not capable of such low delays, usually it measures above 200 ms. It's hard to verify which codec really was used in certain time, but checking Android Developers settings after the test (after you switch to gaming mode and stays in this mode) may help. Also such low latency could be a software sync of TH-cam - many videoplays provides software methods of audio/ video synchronization in the case of Bluetooth connection.

    I think that most people doesn't even know what is a codec... LDAC just allows more data transmitted in the same time than AAC or Aptx, and a wider sampling frequency. So if the speaker is bad, it will be worse because you will ear more noise. In this case, these tws seem to be good enough. For 50$ you also have the Fiil T1 pro or lite which sounds better but without anc or english prompt

    So, just to be totally sure, I have a stuborn question:
    .
    .
    .
    .
    Does the HS sound better in sbc than the OG in AptX Adaptive? 🤔

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hahaha hey man, I’m glad I made it in time! And yeah just to really nail it down once more, the HS sounds better than the OGs even on AptX Adaptive
      In my experience where AptX Adaptive really shines is when it can automatically reach low latency while gaming but QCC3040 is not it (at least you need QCC3046 like on Air3 Pro)
      This is something real useful cause I’m too lazy to turn on game mode (haha well jk only sometimes), but sound quality wise to be honest it’s too small to discern, and in all seriousness SBC is just fine 😆

But what good would be the LDAC codec in drivers I doubt will take advantage of it. I had some wired earbuds that were Hi-Res certified. But they were wired and they were on the big side. They had like 5 drivers or something like that. But now there are this really tiny Bluetooth earbuds. They fit the BT and DAC and battery in. They can't really fit that much driver. I did not expect the latency of LDAC and game mode on to be sooo low. Wow.

      Exactly, in an extremely portable and tiny earbuds like these battery life is really limited and I just can't afford to spend even more battery for some 5% improvement when I'm really looking for it haha

      I agree, LDAC in TWS and even Bluetooth adapters is a bad combination for battery. My Shanling UP4 battery is on it's last legs, I realise now if I hadn't used LDAC I would have gone through less charge cycles and the battery might still be good. I also have a Hidizs H2, LDAC playtime is a joke on it but it default starts on LDAC, you can switch off "HD audio" on phone settings and get SBC or use their app which is not good. Now I use "Bluetooth Codec Changer" app from Play store, it's an awesome app, I can quickly switch it to APTX HD and get more battery time, and I can't hear the difference!

    I still can understand when Nerding about IEM & DAC
    But when it came to TWS is too complicated for me especially About their SQ since Codec is a thing on TWS
    There is Quality on ANC & Ambience mode too,
    I started to give up on TWS, Nekocake SE is the last TWS i bought
    Now decided to back on Wired with Truthear Hexa with Moondrop Dawn DAC
    Still dunno if you could feel the difference between Hi-Res on TWS or no,
    Unlike IEM + DAC

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha tell me about it, hopefully I can try out the Truthear Hexa soon since man there are so much good words around it, but I agree in the IEM world a good DAC will really make the difference, although some of the cheaper ones may be hard to differentiate, I would just say go for the built-in dongle 😂

      The bass sounds like Truthear Zero's bass because it uses the same DD, even though the tuning is different. The bass extension is great, the bass is fast
      The mid is a balance between a female and male, a bit warm and thick. The position is not too intimate. The male vocals are the right weight, thick and it's just really good for the price, the female vocals are also sweet
      Treble sounds really good, Clean, Extended & Airy (good deal when you looking alternative from Planar IEM)
      (Tested with Poco X3 Pro + Moondrop Dawn DAC & music player UAPP)

    • @namedkenn

      The one you see in the video works for Air3 too (since that and Air3 Deluxe have the exact same sound signature so the EQ is the same), but again I’m not too sure about the EQ as modifying it either way I couldn’t make it sound the way I want, so in the end I usually just use the classic Soundpeats preset

    I don't buy Soundpeats products anymore since a I had the Sonic. After 2 month usage the push button on the left earpiece stopped working. I turned to the customer support and they advice to put back and take out the earphone from the charging case several times. Obviously it did not work, so I got back to them that it was not successful. Then they blocked me and did not talk to me ever since.🤷‍♂️

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry to hear that! My Sonic is still good although the case battery’s dead, and when I checked where I bought it I realized I don’t have any warranty
      I agree a bit challenging when it comes to aftersales, so you have to ask before anything to see how’s the warranty, and for sure those with local distributor presence will fare better (although still this might be tricky)
      Anyway, mind telling me the other brands you prefer nowadays with better support?

    Hi there Kenneth! Can you also recommend a smartphone that's best used together with any of the IEM's. i'm currently using Poco x3 gt and it usually ruins my audiowares be it bluetooth or aux. Please help. Thanks

    • @namedkenn
      @namedkenn  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Firstly I don’t think changing phone will affect bluetooth sound quality, as the DAC and amplifier all resides in the earbuds (along with the built in chip)
      But if we’re talking wired IEM then it’s different, unfortunately there hasn’t been anything special since the LG V-series back in the days with built-in ESS DAC, so maybe you’d want to try dedicated DACs but those could get expensive (even more than the phone!)
      I don’t know about the X3 GT but in my experience simpler dongle DACs really don’t make much difference until you go to stuff like iFi HipDAC for example, but if there’s a local store where you can try it first I really recommend to try and pick which one works for you best

    I did hear an admittedly small improvement on my SoundPeats H2 with AptX by turning on/off the "High Sound Quality" bluetooth setting. Probably not noticeable if you don't compare in details, and the difference seems to also depend on the track. However, I suppose since I do hear the slight difference, I'd prefer to stick with the slightly better sound, 4 hours of aptx is good enough for my application. With improving battery life, this won't be an issue.
