Many of you are asking after the “old” band. I have addressed this question frequently on Facebook and Instagram. But I realize I have not yet addressed this on TH-cam. So here goes: At the end of the “Beyond Borders Tour” (150 shows, I’m told), the previous band and I were feeling out of sorts. Our artistic union, that had been so wonderful for so many years, was no longer working. After much discussion, and soul searching, we decided that it was time for us to go our separate ways. Each person seemed to have their own reasons for making the decision they did. And I’m sure it was difficult for each of us. But as sad as I was to see the end of a band I had worked with, and loved, for so long, I had to acknowledge that we made the right decision. We needed to move on. I’m glad to see that Chris, Nic, Dennis, and Chendy are missed by so many of you. They are each very special musicians, and deserve your admiration. I feel incredibly fortunate to have had the many years that we were together. Chris, longer than any other, played my music for 19 years, a remarkably long time for any musician to dedicate to one project. I will forever feel blessed to have had such a talented partner and collaborator for so long. He was like the brother I never had. But Chris, Nic, Dennis, and Chendy have not disappeared. They continue to be great musicians, and to create beautiful music. Chris has turned his hand to composition, Nic is giving concerts, playing his own beautiful compositions. Chendy and Dennis bringing their gifts to many different projects. I encourage each of you to follow and support their ongoing musical endeavours. And please consider also, that it’s not fair to attack the new players. They too are tremendously gifted musicians. And what’s more they had nothing to do with any of this. Your frustration is with us, the old band, for the decisions we made. And while I sympathize with your feelings, as I too will miss the old band, If you truly want to support the “old band,” respect the decisions they made. Sometimes for artists to grow, we need change. In the meantime, I will continue my artistic journey, to chase my muse, and search for magic, wherever it may lay. For those of you who still embrace my musical efforts, I am forever in your debt. Without you, none of this is possible. Thank you for listening. Happy Holidays. Jesse
Thank you so much for the explanation, Jesse. I think many of your fans were also very dedicated to your 'old band,' and that is the reason for expressing feelings of frustration. As you said, sometimes change is good; but, it can be painful. I think your fans are feeling that pain for you and the long time members that have left the band. I want them to know we loved and enjoyed their music tremendously. And, we miss them. If I am being honest, I can't say I am enjoying this 'new' music. I love the Flamenco leaning music and some of the unbelievable music you have written that I love to watch on TH-cam that has been set to gorgeous videos. This 'new' music just doesn't do it for me. My husband and I are coming to your concert in Orlando, FL on January 19. I am anxious to see what you and your new band come up with at the concert . I will say this for your new band; it is quite obvious that they are talented musicians as well.
@@careaboutnature thank you for your reply. Of course you can (and should) like or dislike whatever music you please. I just want to correct your assumption that this is "new music". This song was written and released in 1999, on "Freefall". Incidentally, this song was recorded pre- old band. Other musicians all together...perhaps the "Old Old Band"?" Yes, I am THAT old. Here's a link to the original: th-cam.com/video/bRQvQQRP7zU/w-d-xo.html
@@JesseCookOfficial Oh! That is interesting. It doesn't pay to 'assume.' I guess I favor your more 'Flamenco' style music. I and my husband have been to many of your concerts in Pennsylvania. We have enjoyed ever single concert. I know we will enjoy the Orlando concert with your new band. We are really looking forward to it.
It happens with great musicians - I remember the days of interweaving with musicians from Weather Report, for instance - all those phenomenal talents did things on their own and blended with others - it keeps the creative flow moving and fresh to change from time to time. You are one of those talents.
This was the song that first got me. It was freezing in downtown Denver, I was doing some errands. This came on and I stopped and counted off the four count just before the key changes. I looked like an idiot, I'm sure, but from that moment on, I no longer wanted to die. Thank you, again, Jesse, for saving my life.
Oh! it can certainly be said that Jesse Cook has given so much to so many. And his associated musicians. Yes, people can suffer through their attachments it is true. But life goes on, within you and without you. In order to grow there must be change, even though many people find change uncomfortable. Looking forward to many more years of music with the masters. . . whoever they may be, and Jesse Cook. . . you have won our admiration and respect. Then play on!
This is the equally the best live performance of Jesse cook along with Mario Takes a Walk. Amazing performance by each and every band members 👍. I make sure to watch this once every day❤️
This on walks the night, it's huge. Jaleo really fast piece with the ballerina in a course the guy from Algeria with the violin. I spent a lot of time in the middle east and I have a flamingo guitar from Spain. And he brings it together like I've never heard it before. These two magical rhythms it just blows me away.
i am a longtime listener and have loved your eclectic compositions in all their forms. Old/new band makes no difference to me. There has always been a central vision driving your music and i love all of it. Please keep the magic flowing sir.
Due to an accident husband was in I have had to quit my nursing job to care for him so I havent had any "me" time. Today I found your music with people all over the world joining in and it made my day. I have had your music on from this site all afternoon. A real memory from past concerts. Thank you for Today!! Stay safe.
and here we are almost a year later.. This music ignites me.. this band is tight as hell (read cohesive for non-musicians). Thank you Jesse Cook and band for what you do.. you keep me/us sane in this BS environment we have! We want/need more of this!!
I have had the wonderful experience of seeing you twice and each time enjoyed myself immensely. Now l see that l was able to enjoy the “old” and the “new” bands. The new band can rip the old songs as well as the old band and have the audience dancing in the aisles still. And the new music, is inspired from older places, still beautiful and still brings joy to the heart of the listener. And to the gentleman who said that Jesse should have had belly dancers on the stage, he’ll yes you could dance to that and no, you don’t have to convert to Islam to compose or enjoy that style of music. Keep up the good work Jesse. Chase the muse, make your brand of magic. It works. The band works. And we get the benefits. Thank you!
I can only imagine the mixed feelings and emotions that still must linger given the departure of a band that meant so much to you Jesse, as a performer and to us, the fans. It is sad for sure, but the music you have given us throughout your career will live on and will continue to manifest in the beauty of your talent and in the efforts of the new musicians. I'm looking forward to seeing your show in Edmonton in March. My wife and I are excited to hear what the new guys bring to the table. I personally wish you and the guys further success in the God given talents you possess and look forward to what's still to come! Cheers!

Thanks for letting me know. I had never heard that before. But please don’t feel offended. I don’t think this would qualify as an Iranian carpet. I bought it at the Home Depot (that’s an American hardware store chain). I wouldn’t want to take a real handmade carpet on tour.
