Jami, I believe the Fenton white glass bowl is an epergne. The "holes" hold horn-shaped vases with ends that fit into the holes and are held in place with special rubber inserts. They have frilly ends at the top of the vases. If you look it up, you'll see what I mean. 😊 Nice finds❣🦋

When we lived in Maryland , we shopped in Pennsylvania all the time. That is where Martha and I went to an auction and got carried away buying turkey chicks and a mother bantam hen and her chicks. We came home with almost 30 poultry.Dad said we weren’t allowed to go again. 🤣🤣 It was Spring and the tulips were blooming EVERYWHERE ! So unforgettable! I can picture you in the Airport making you brown bundle. Too bad you couldn’t have filmed THAT! He he!

When my sister lived in New York, my mom and I were visiting and junked from a street corner vendor lot right downtown. A cool old trunk, smaller than ones we usually find. , but found an amazing round coffee grinder plus many more smalls. . I did what you did , I packed things, with in things and lots of paper. My dad helped me cut up cardboard boxes we found in a dumpster, we duct taped it all over the trunk, but left the end so we could slide it out for SW to see. Then we checked it....and taped it back up and Voila....everything made it home to Texas. That’s been about 20 yrs ago. Then on a quick SW trip to Dallas, for clothes shopping with our son, ( he likes clothes and we didn’t have any outlet stores close) he saved his money..... found the coolest old Pressed chalk mirror, from a tavern. SW let us carry it on and into the over head bin perfectly! I TOTALLY GET YOU!!! It’s so fun to find stuff in other places.

My job took me on the back roads in Pennsylvania, there were barn sales and roadside sales and free items! One big disappointment was a clerks desk of chestnut wood for $25 but I couldn’t get it in my little car and they would not hold it, I wish I had just found a uHaul! I found a drop leaf cottage table for free! Great idea on large almost empty suitcase! Blessed and safe days!

The Fenton milk glass bowl is actually for candles and flowers. At the time (60’s & 70’s) there were slender tapers that fit the small perimeter holds and larger candles fit in the center, then flowers were arranged around the candles. I have one of two that were on the table for my sister’s wedding in 1972.

  • @violethoffermobilehomemove9189

Great finds! You would love Mo. Junk! There is so much cool, cool, cool milk glass pieces here. Many unusual pieces. I have the coolest square cake plate stand, in milk glass. There are so many patterns. Architectural pieces as well. I had a freind that tore down houses most of his life. He had building after building of treasures. It was like visiting a time capsule. But to get them out of the building was almost impossible. I think he sold it as one collective price for all. It was a gold mine. But like all gold hard to get to. The buildings where stacked all the way to the top of the rafters one piece on top of another. It was worth seeing thou. There are lots of antique or junk shops around here where you can see all the antiques inside, but they have just been abonden for some reason. It's strange.. Antiques in this area in prices I would say are at an all time low in price.

When I was in Paris, I did the nested suitcase hack. I also brought some Lock n Lock nesting containers. I put my finds in them wrapped and cushioned in my dirty clothes. Everything arrived alive and unbroken. The advantage of those containers was that if something had happened, the pieces/contents would have been contained and not spilling all over my other belongings.

If you go back to Pittsburgh you MUST visit the Grand Concourse. It was a train station that was turned into a restaurant. The photos on the website don’t do it justice. It is exquisite architecture and hand laid tile floors, etc. Also, Pennsy has a 100 mile yard sale every year. Did it in 2018. Met amazing people and had a blast. Came home with a car load!

My goodness that sounds like fun! I have brought thrifted Johnson Bros., soft yellow salad bowls all the way from the other side of Canada. Quebec has some great antique and thrift shops. I got four of them and sat both plane rides home with them in my carry on, between my ankles. That was 15 years ago, I use them all the time. I am not one for souvenirs either...special momentos for me.
