    Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater's connoisseur of controllers, walks you through the Arturia KeyStep Pro Controller/Sequencer. Combining powerful sequencing abilities with a 37-key, velocity-sensitive keybed with aftertouch, the Arturia KeyStep Pro may be the controller and sequencer you've been waiting for. The Arturia KeyStep Pro comes equipped with USB for use with your software instruments, MIDI for your hardware synths, and CV/Gate/Mod outputs for Eurorack modular synthesizers, there is little the KeyStep Pro cannot control. And with the Arturia KeyStep Pro's four-track polyphonic sequencer, dedicated 16-track drum sequencer, and advanced functions like randomization, arpeggiation, and chord modes, it's clear the KeyStep Pro is definitely not your average keyboard controller.

    Great demo! After watching this and other videos, I’m definitely buying this. The controls are very intuitive to me. I like how it’s built for live performances as well as studio composition work. On the fly changes are seamless, which is something I really like.

    Would really like to see a comparison between the KeyStep Pro and a Novation Impulse. My buddy uses the Novation Impulse with Cubasis on iPad. Like KeyStep Pro it’s sold for PCs snd Mac, but works great in the iOS environment, too.

    I had no idea this device could do so much! I didn’t realize you can switch between arpeggiator and sequencer so smoothly. I am going to save this video now so I can reference it when I decide which Keystep to purchase. Thank you for a great video…again. Do you already have another video showcasing the differences between the various Keystep devices?

    Literally just asked for a Keystep guide on the Moog SH video and you all delivered, thanks! Can you give any guidance around using the Keystep tempo to drive Logic’s drummer and the SH at the same tempo?

    Great video, I was just wondering if you could use this purely as a controller with a DAW, or if it needs to be plugged into the other synthesisers like you've got here?

    • @shoey6123
      @shoey6123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It works with just a DAW

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Tom. The KeyStep Pro is about as universal as you can get. It has CV jacks, Clock jacks, Drum Gate jacks, 5-pin DIN MIDI jacks, and a USB MIDI port, meaning that it can work in pretty much any situation - with or without a computer/DAW. And you can certainly use only a DAW with no hardware synths. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_

    Arps should be user programmable. Sequences, do they have an option of zero quantize or at least 1/64 note quantize? Note ties in sequences?

    If I have ableton, would the Keystep Pro go good with the Beatstep Pro or would I want something like a Launchpad to go with the Keystep instead?

    I just got the Keylab mk2 61, but man do I want this. I wonder would it be overkill to have both or would it be a good supplemental keyboard for all of my sequencing needs??

    • @errorkit
      @errorkit 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      its great to have both - KSP for sequencing & drums - MKII 61 for Soloing or Big Pads 💪🔥

    • @shoyei
      @shoyei 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll have the exact same setup once I get my KSP. Keylab is for full size keys playing with my DAW, and Keystep is for my modular gear/drum machine/polysynth and for playing live.

    Which is better as a DAWless hardware sequencer: Keystep Pro or Novation SL3?

    So if I have a Euclidean sequencer, I could record a sequence from it into the drum track of the Keystep Pro?

    Can the KSP control more than one instrument on a single sequencer track? For example, could I connect multiple Volca Drums to the drum track to increase my number of available drum voices? Similarly, can I connect two instruments via different midi channels to the same one melodic track?

      Hi TheNimasan. Both the Hydrasynth and the MicroFreak are connected to the KeyStep Pro via MIDI. The MicroFreak's 3.5mm MIDI jack goes to the white 3.5mm to 5-pin DIN adapter cable.

    How on earth did you assign aftertouch with the hydrasynth? I've been breaking my brain for a year on how to get that to work.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joseph. If the KeyStep Pro is sending Channel (Mono) Aftertouch then the Hydrasynth will respond to it, assuming of course that the preset it's on has Aftertouch assigned as a Modulation Source in the Mod Matrix. If you're starting from INI, then you'll need to go to the Mod Matrix, choose MonoAfT (MonoAfterTouch) as the Source, choose something as a Destination, and turn the percentage up. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_

    I'll preface this by saying I'm a novice to high-end midi keyboards. I get that it does a lot of incredible things, and it should for the price. But god, this review makes it sound like a $50 Casio keyboard from 1985 right along with the crappy drum sounds. I mean wow are they bad.

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi OldOwl. It's important to understand that the Arturia KeyStep Pro is only a MIDI controller that doesn't make any sounds on its own. You can connect it to any MIDI or CV-controlled synthesizer to play exactly the sounds you want to hear. -_Daniel_
