    Hi Ranzee, nice trick! The missing piece in your description (or i overlooked it): keep Shift + Kbd Play button pressed on the Keystep and select the appropriate Keyboard Midi CH.( if you only press Shift + Midi channel the sequencer plays over that channel as well)

    Hey everyone! Something new and cool - I've done a little Jam to show how to get the most out of your KeyStep! You'll see me use the Sequencer (keystep) and ARP (SH-01A) at the same time (a great feature). Hope you like it - everything was a bit improv :/

      youtube wouldn't let me add a comment so here it is. Sounds nice, but how are you sending MIDI Out from ONE midi socket to 2 instruments? And what channel is the Keystep set on?

    • @ranzee
      @ranzee  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Laura! Thanks for the question. The Keystep sends the sequence out to the Boog Model D via MIDI channel 1 and Kbd Ply to the SH-01A via MIDI channel 2. They are hooked up via MIDI DIN cable as follows: MIDI OUT from the Keystep to MIDI IN on the Boss DD-500 (to get the midi clock delay timing sync) - MIDI OUT of that to MIDI IN on the Boog Model D, then MIDI OUT of that to MIDI IN on the SH-01A. Hope this makes sense :) Let me know if you need anything more :)

    • @DuJuanSylvester
      @DuJuanSylvester 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got mine and tried. When setting the midi Channel to 2 on the KeyStep the sequence moves as well as the kbd play. What am I missing?

    • @ranzee
      @ranzee  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DuJuanSylvester 1) make sure you're all up-to-date on the firmware ... 2) it sounds like you're not properly in KBD Play mode - make sure you hold down shift and hit the Oct+ (Kbd Pay) button ... once you're in that mode you can set the MIDI channel via SHIFT + note corresponding to number written above it.

    • @DuJuanSylvester

    • @ranzee

      Great question! It was recorded on both the camera and Zoom - that way the audio tracks sync'd when you bring them into Premiere Pro to edit. You can then drop the camera audio and use the Zoom recording for a more pro finish!

    Scooma Dooma Ranzee! Nice demo. The Keystep and SH-01A are very versatile... you can also add another module (to take over the sequence) and send CV out from SH-01A to the D. Three sound modules all controlled by the Keystep! And once you add a MIDI Thru Box (or two) you can really go nuts ... if you have enough sound modules. 🤪

If i have Boog on midi channel 1 and Pro 1 on midi channel 2, surely the keystep will only play the midi channel i set the keystep to? Will the Keystep play both synths simultaneously if they are only 2 different midi channels? Really appreciate your help.. I was thinking the only way i could sequence one and play the other was to buy a 2nd Keystep?

    Wow, the only thing that could make the keystep's design even smarter would be if it could sequences. One for every key on its keyboard or something like that

    • @ranzee
      @ranzee  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Lyks, do you mean like transposing the sequence? I can already do that. Or do you mean it triggers a different sequence on every key? You could quite easily do that too - but you'd need a DAW hooked up via USB/MIDI - and then you can assign MIDI clips to trigger based on a key pressed.

    How are you running MIDI out to 2 different devices out of one MIDI Out socket?

    • @ranzee
      @ranzee  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    How do you switch between synths?

    • @jc3drums916

      Shift + key to select MIDI channels.

    • @djbowlz2128

      jC3drums thx! Sorry. I’m a noob. Can you do this with the key step and 2 synths alone? Or do you need to run it thru some sort of multi midi box?

      Hey Handy Skratch! Thanks so much for your question. There's a setup video on my channel - if you haven't seen it yet, I recommend you check that out. To give you a quick answer here - I show in the video how the connections are routed using MIDI through (daisy chain). Each device is set to its own channel. Then you'll see me set the MIDI channel at the start using SHIFT+key (the numbers are in blue above the keys).

      ranzee ahh! Sorry watching in a tiny phone didn’t see the info bubbles. Thanks for the reply! My problem is I’m trying to use the key step for 2 Volcas which only have midi in. I’ll have to figure something out!

    Doesn't the KeySteo have 8 midi channels? You might be able to latch 8 arps at once.

    you have to correct your description now: that part "all on the keystep" it's not on the keystep, obviously the arpeggiator is from the sh ;)

    • @ranzee
      @ranzee  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'll amend it to say "all controlled by the keystep" - the ARP on the SH-01A is played on the Keystep - you play an ARP, there's no keyboard on my SH-01A ... the only keyboard I'm playing is the Keystep. BTW - I don't know if you know this, but you can actually play the sequencer and the ARP at the same time on the SH-01A ... you'll have a field day with that one I'm sure.
