The explanation (still working on it) I've come up with is: A mythical/sci-fi black epic adventure, that shows what african-americans had to pass through in the systematically racist America of the 50's and how it reflects in today's world and its discrimination issues

@chocobonita I'm pretty sure its about girls testing the waters and seeing if they're actually gay, considering its way more normalized for women to do that. Its usually ok for them to go back and forth without an issue as well, but that's going into the weeds

Yet it's at a mediocre 7 stars on IMDB. That's hardly resonate. Basically it just covers all the hot-button topics and backdrops it with an OK-at-best storyline.

It's not sci-fi. It's more horror and fantasy. Sci-fi about how technology affects human beings. The tech in the show is more magical than sci-fi. To be clear, for example, Star Wars is not sci-fi, it's fantasy. Star Trek is sci-fi.

Lovecraft Country is definitely not an easy show to explain and if you watch it on a surface level it won't make much sense. Even watching it on a deeper level and breaking down what's going on takes work but it deep and all kinds of messages.

Speaking as someone who has never watched the show but only heard the show explained by radio DJ's I can without a doubt confirm that I'm just as confused from Issa's explanation as from what I heard before
The best part is nearly everything they said is accurate. Even the white girl was right calling out the dream sequence.

The first episode was the best but the others have moments I’ve enjoyed. I just feel like the episodes are rushed. They slammed three seasons’ worth of material into one.
