2:38: 'The amazing thing about soil is that it's at an interface zone.' This is actually a very interesting observation. I hadn't really thought about it that way before. I've been reading a bunch of permaculture stuff, and they talk about how useful boundaries can be - but soil itself is all one big boundary, isn't it? A new way of looking at things. XD
Just found these videos!! Love them! Great job. I am an Agriscience teacher and this is exactly what I teach to my Ag I classes! Now I feel the need to learn to draw 😉
Love this video! This makes great use effective hand-drawn animation with cartoons and has great content. The script is excellent because it's breezy, fast-moving and packed with good information. The voice over is superior with good tone and modulation and sound quality. In the early part I particularly like the discussion of the various perspectives on soils and its focusing in on the concept of transitions which are importance in all the aspects of science and indeed life. Also, great emphasis and discussion of components and processes of how weathering leads to soil development.
Soils do not support life, on the contrary, life supports and forms rocks soils and the creation of atmospheric oxigen. Many "rocks'' are derived from living organisms, so therefore, soils and certain gases are ultimately made by living creatures, not the other way around. Even in the deepest rock formations (e.g. African diamond mines) are full of microorganisms that are living in "'extreme"' conditions, not only "'making a life"' but making reactions that eventually can form other rocks and soils. Thus, everything is co-ingrained, and it is a mistake to say "'soil permits life,"' when life permits geological processes and soils.
It's December 5, World Soil Day, and Nate Dorsey has made a great video to help everyone learn about soil. Looking forward to more innovative videos from Nate the Great!
I thought the most important thing that makes soil soil is its organic principal. Weatherd rock is sand. Dirt without organics is sand. Sand with organic is dirt. The organics is the most important part and you bearly mentioned it. Life makes soil. In return soil gives life. Most important lesson on the planet pretty much
i like the way of introducing Soil but still I was missing something. i will give my introduction to I'm Permaculture practitioner, why don't you integrate your videos with permaculture Principles and Ethics. And Make more videos to get the people on board.. otherwise both the videos i loved them.. :)
Thanks for your comment, you are completely right. I will be working to make this channel more diverse in the future, because everyone has a place in science.
I dropped out of college, but I'm hoping to educate myself in soil science and horticulture.

I'm taking a class Intro to soils at a community college and it's cool to see a video talking about what I just went over in class.

Could you do a complete series also on rock formation? Trying to have a better understanding about Agriculture.
A life savor during remote learning!
Thanks for the great explanation and for the valuable info!

Hello my name is Ansh singh

in brief what is soil it's considered the earth's skin :)
soils are also formed by liquen and cacti eating the rocks
So soil comes from rock, that is amazing
BOILS
everything comes from the sun ( energy, food , materials ect.) not from soil.
Where are the women in this video!? Are soils too manly for us? Even the cactus is a dude...
