    You don’t have to go to burning man to practice these principles. You can do it in your everyday life, and it is far more meaningful.

    Went last year for my first and was blown away by the overall generosity of everyone there. At the same time, everyone follows radical self reliance so no one expects or relies on the kindness of strangers yet it is given so freely.

    I’ve never been. This morning my curiosity was sparked. I began with a cup of coffee and a search of “burning man” and the list of videos I began watching. This video helped me understand another aspect of what the human receives at the festival. Along with the fun, creativity, freedom it is an opportunity to cleanse the spirit. One solid thing the festival stands on: love. The way a human wants it and gives it will never change. At the temple part of this video is where I got choked up.

      Thank you for saying this about the dust storm! Everyone else at BM was hiding from the storm.... I was out in the thick of it trying to document what it is like to get caught in a dust storm. And show you how crazy it can get very quickly. Dust masks are essential for BM. You'll be glad you brought a good one that filters out the dust. Not these wimpy masks we wear today.

    Really great summaries from people about what it is and how it feels to be there. I’ve been through a dust storm or two in my 4 burns though none for a whole day. Also a heavy downpour of rain followed by very muddy shoes for a while. It was amazing how little any of that mattered; the vibe of the experience is so congenial, comforting and inspiring. One year i was there for a full week; watching this city rise up out of the desert and fold back in again. Very meaningful though very ephemeral. The art installations are not to be missed. The mountains rising out of the flat horizon. For two months after i get back home, little things that annoy and irritate me the rest of the year just don’t bother me. Is it like being in a Mad Max movie? yes but combined with Carnavsl and Fellini movies. The playa - the ancient lake bed - just gives us a nice spread out area to experience and share it in. It’s more about being there than the philosophizing - this video just happens to be about the philosophizing aspect. It’s more like being a kid again and seeing the world with eyes of wonder and surprise. And each time it took me a day and a half to really get into it. But so worth it and each year very very different from each other year!

      From what I've seen they clean up every tiny bit of trash at the end, its one of the basic ideas of it. Ok, I appreciate that they may not clean up as well as they should. It would be interesting to compare the amount of trash left, pollutants emitted, etc with a town of similar size over the same time period. Especially if the inhabitants have to clear up their own shit, literally.

    • @SunGodNika-ws9zu
      @SunGodNika-ws9zu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Nick Rice I think he was referring to when the whole event is over. All the people that drove out have to come back and there is only one road. The towns and shops surrounding that road is where people dispose of their trash. And they don’t care if it overflows.

    This is now on my list of things i must do, before leaving this existence. I've always heard of/about burning man and always knew kinda about...just as like a 3rd party in a convo/word of mouth or of course social media, whatever it may be. I've "known about" burning man for probably a decade now. Known of is maybe a better phrase to use. Anyhoo, I've been binging BM videos right now and I'm in awe 😶😲🤩😍🤗🥰😶💗. I myself, have a genetic, progressive illness in which there is no cure called Ehlers Danlose Syndrome. I am only 28 and upon just/first looking at me, you'd think I'm perfectly healty...yet just under the surface, I am actually incredibly ill... and only get sicker as i age. In the "invisible" illness community, we're known as zebras. If you hear hoof steps, you'll immediately think a horse is coming...you'll not be on the look out for a zebra. Anyways... haveing EDS sometimes makes me feel like an alien lol. Sometimes in the most amazing, self empowering yet very humbling ways! All of which im tremendously thankful for. And in also, ways in which can be very frustrating, isolating and very lonely. And truthfully, I am also grateful for that as well...in which without I'd not appreciate the good nearly as much. So something about this festival just makes me feel this undeniable sense of peace... and this is literally just from watching maybe half a dozen videos on it (including this one. Which is my favorite). To me its just seems like all of us people, celebrating life and love and the present...the right now...and also is all about celebrating YOU and what makes you uniquely who you are and were meant to be (before the worlds society brought ya down) but at same time VERY MUCH celebrating what makes you exactly the same as everyone else around you... and everyone else in this world...or even more! Everyone is an outcast, yet completely and unapologetically belongs! If that makes any sense at all lol. In my mind it does... not so sure if it correlates lol. But it just seems absolutely magical and so very real and vulnerable at the same time. It is kind of the embodiment of complete freedom but with personal responsibility. When people are intrusted with good...with a sense of goodness...to be kind, to be self reliant, to be selfless, to be very giving and generous and very open, ect... yet in all reality you are entirely free to do as you please, you'll find that.99.99% of the people will do good. Its about expectations...of others...but of yourself first and foremost. And when everyone has that same selfless, inclusive and self reliant mind set...it just makes for this crazy amazing society of SOOO many different type of like minded humans... coming together for a common purpose of love, life, growth and giving. I can only imagine that you leave this week long event, feeling as if you've been gone, to an alternate reality for like a like year! lol. Though the beauty is that it isn't an alternate reality... it IS our reality! Just goes to show ya, your reality is what YOU make it. YOUR brain creates your reality. Just the same as when you're dreaming (most often) you don't realize it and the world around you is just as real as anything else you've ever experienced when you're "awake". So then, who's to say this life, this existence isn't anything more than a dream. Bottom line though, control your mind...create your reality. It seems to me as if Burning Man is a week long, great, huge physical manifestation of a reminder of just that! You are the Universe...we are all yet a small part of it and entirely it at the same time. You DO have the power and ability to create your own reality. BM reminds us of our unlimited abilities and capabilities...seems to help us learn, grow and explore them (explore your YOUniverse in depth and freely). To then bring back with you more of those awakened aspects and ideologies and apply them to your every day.
    ...just wow. Beautiful! I hope to be able to attend at least once, one day. Because of my chronic and progressive illness it'll be quite tough! But in a way, its one of the more reason to go! I want to challenge myself in all aspects...physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. ✌ & 🤟

      What many people regard as a flaw, I regard as a beauty mark. You are a truly beautiful person. Your words speak to me as if they were my own thoughts. I feel as if I have known you all my life, or at least searched for you that long. Accept my unconditional love and all best wishes for the future. See you on the other side of the curtain, cause it won't be heaven without you.

    Burning Man is a Bacchanal, in the truest sense of the word. It is also a mandala, created for a week, then destroyed.
    Burning Man cannot exist in the outside world, because it requires that you expend tremendous effort, and outlay large amounts of money just to be able to attend. It is a moment in the sun, and a glimpse of potential, which you can choose to take back to your life in pieces. It is a through-the-looking-glass week which can fuel your spirit and imagination.
    You can learn from it, but you can't live it 24/7. That's one thing that makes it special. It has a beginning, middle and end. Then, you go back to life, hopefully with an idea of ways that you can improve it for the better.
    I have been on core team for theme camps for over a decade, and I will tell you that I work harder at Burning Man than I do in regular life. I show up 6 days early and build my camp, prepping for the everyday burners to filter through and enjoy our offerings. It is an insane amount of responsibility and work to achieve this, and I have learned even more joy in work than I ever have before. Satisfaction in a job well done, even in the face of obstacles you can't imagine exist.
    Don't let anyone tell you this is about a party. It is life, expanded.
    PS: To the OP - I see you were in a teeny little dust storm there :-) BRC has not had a real dust storm since 2008-2009. Maybe they will return someday!

    • @ToddKortte
      @ToddKortte  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was struggling on the length. Hours of content didn't make it into the film. I almost thing some scenes are too long. Its hard these days to keep viewers attention while also trying to educate. I am really happy at those who keep watching to the end. The film is structured to have a rising action...Temple Burn being the peak. To cut yourself short and ditch out around 10 minutes is depriving you of all that the story is building. I was actually having a conversation with my Producer Anna about making just a Dust/Temple Burn short clip with those with attention deficits :)

    We have a nephew the loves going to Burning Man I had a concept that was a little off on the event. It is way larger than I thought it was and also didn't know you have to buy a ticket to go to it. Also, one fella was talking nothing for sale? The tickets are for sale and I am sure the wine bar is not free. Anyway, seems like a nice way for people to connect and just simply drop all the "supposed to be's" and just enjoy meeting new people. and seeing different artwork although seems like the dust storm would ruin a lot of art. If I went I would definitely bring an RV in case of the dust storm wouldn't want to be inhaling that for a week. If there is a lot of drugs wouldn't like that - people high on drugs usually have no idea of what they are saying lol!

    • @ToddKortte
      @ToddKortte  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Once inside, the only thing for sale is coffee, ice, and water. Everything else is given for free including the wine at the wine bar. The large camps will have free entertainment and give our free drinks. Maybe very small pours and you don't have an option of what they will give you...but its free. You need to take with you all the food, shelter, survival gear, and water you need on a daily bases. Some people take advantage of others' hard work and show up with just a backpack.

    This is such a great video Todd. I watched the whole thing twice. I'm a TH-camr myself and I'm going to burning man this year. I hope I can make a video half as good as this. Keep up the great work.
