    I was in Emergency Services in my community for 20+ years. There was a uniform supply shop in town that had just opened, so I went to check it out. The owner said he had retired from the NYPD (this shop was a very long way from New York). I asked if he knew of Frank Serpico, one of my heroes. He mumbled something about "that dirty, lowlife, SOB..." I left, and never darkened the door of that place again. I will always admire Serpico, and men like him. The world needs them now more than ever. Thank you, Frank, wherever you are!

    My Father was in law enforcement for years and one day he was out to lunch with his fellow officers and when they got their food at the counter the cashier who was about to take their money for their order saw their badges and said it's ok it's on the house and the officers said hey thanks and proceeded to their table yet my father would look at the cashier and say no, how much do I owe you. My Father KNEW what that badge represented and it was'nt for free food. Thanks for your honesty, Frank !

      Dear Timothy last year father and your family for teaching him the right way. I think accepting free food from these stores with your favoritism to these stores that's not what we need to have a protective class the store owners they're getting away with murder.. Timothy just last year I was attacked by a pizza store owner in Brooklyn he permanently destroyed my meniscus cuz he was homophobic and a big bully I'm a small guy 5'4" and 70 years old who has been attacked that terminally destroyed my meniscus causing me to limp and now I've been diagnosed with developing scoliosis 5 weeks curvature of the spine because I'm limping on one side it's going my body mechanism off and it's only going to get worse. And when I went to the local police precinct four times at the monthly police safety meeting to file a crime victim report.. when I asked to make a report different officers the captain appointed to speak to me only to end having them side stepping the issue and not want to make the report calling this a civil matter only what?.since when is destroying somebody's meniscus shattering causing impeccable pain, bleeding and swelling a civil matter? Or how police can change the story to protect their own and their own friends the store owners. Because this store owners are well known very important figure in the community out here. And at the beginning of the pandemic this owner had to go fund me page and provided free food to the fire department police department and the EMS workers at Lutheran hospital out here. So they're obviously One hand washes the other attitude. Though I'm stuck with 130,000 worth of medical Care thank goodness Medicare only paid about 80%, now I'm stuck with the other $40,000. Thanks to the police cannot make a police report. I don't think I can file for victims compensation fun to pay for my bills now I'm permanently crippled in one side every two steps I make is nothing but pain. Pain killers are wearing off after a year. I always grew up learning to respect the police but seeing how they operate over the years before my attack by this famous pizza store owner. They lie faster than than they could swing a baton. Nothing's going to change nothing is going to change I'm permanently crippled for the rest of my remaining life makes you proud to be a New Yorker proud to be an American is that what our fathers for the overseas enemy? Only to ignore the corruptions in this country by the most respected civil service police. How could turn a blind eye I'm looking cops let their friends eat their owners get away with what they can get away with. You know I'm getting therapy every step I take I think about these civil service and the store owner

Wall Street an use them as their attack dogs at a moment's notice while everyday people who call 911 often find themselves in worse situation when the cops show up.

    • @AnnaLVajda
      @AnnaLVajda 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      A corrupt cop IS a criminal being a cop does not legalize everything they do the public needs to stop enabling that attitude they say it's ok I'm a cop but people do not need to just agree with that. The number of people who defended Derek the murder was really surprising to me even though other cops testified against him and he had over a dozen complaints against him prior some thought killing someone over a pack of cigarettes was reasonable no resisting arrest no weapons already cuffed on the ground yet 4 of them can't just arrest him? Disgusting.

      Dear Denyse, for me this man this man is incredibly special, a real "boddhisattva" who walks the talk. "My most negative experience was my most positive" ("when I got shot"). Of course there are others on this planet, but they are always in a minority. He reminds us what integrity is (as you wrote). "10% are absolutely honest, 10% are absolutely corrupt and the other 80% wish they were honest." He reminds us that every waking moment in our lives, we have the choice to do what is right or wrong. Yes, you are so right, an angel, a boddhisattva in human form.

    Frank's story shows that once a person has committed an act of corruption they will rarely be able to turn on those more corrupt than themselves as few are prepared to take the penalty for corruption. It is the permissive action of those in the middle who prevent the clean up of the institutions and punishment of the worst offenders.

    The moment I saw this film I remembered my father, a career police officer in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was an odd figure, a man of clear character, honor and courage. He entered the force in 1943, going to the second world war with the Brazilian expeditionary force, he fought on all fronts of Italy, he was distinguished by his courage, camaraderie and honesty. He was decorated and when he returned to Brazil he continued his career as a police officer until 1988. He was a rare example of honesty and character within the police in Rio de Janeiro, one of the most corrupt and violent in the country. Even so, he knew how to separate his work from his family and stay alive and integrated during more than 4 decades of services rendered to his state. His life would make an epic film and when I saw this almost biography of this policeman, Serpico, who was distinguished for his honesty and character, I remembered my father's trajectory. May God have him in glory and may the example of these two valiant men, each in his time and country, serve as a mirror for future generations. Honesty and character are the foundation of a country.

    It's not just that the guys were taking some money, but the extent that they would go to so they could keep doing it unchallenged. Conspiring to kill someone, a police officer doing his duty. That to me is the epitome of injustice... Disgusting actions. Brutal violence against a man who was punished not because he commited a crime, but because he refused to commit a crime. Ordinarily, who ever heard of a policeman arresting someone for refusing to commit a crime?! It's madness.

He it's not a superhuman but a man with a bigger than life consciousness to do the right.. Frank deserves to have an Icon painted in his name and hand it to him and his family. I'm in Brooklyn Bay Ridge would love to meet him or some family members so I can have an icon painted in his name he deserves it. This is such a great documentary bringing up his family his neighborhood. I don't know if the other documentaries have touched that.. I can't believe they had cold water flats back in then. I was born in 1951 in Brooklyn never noticed any cold water flats. But nevertheless this man's profile pictures required viewing and reading in school. You'll always be a great exploration I hope the people stand up in the face of corruption and evil man it's really hard to do that by yourself. Frank Serpico. How many times does any family have a person like Frank that rarely hits the mark of honesty, integrity. And love for life an truth an an influence for everyone to try to live with just that. 1960-72 NYC The organized crime influence to that citys image an law etc. He is 85? He lives today an example that helps people today to not give up hope. His example brings hope.

    The hindsight of 2020 looks back at this man and the time he lived in as he spoke truth the the order of his workplace command about problems with violation of base standard of job performance of a law enforcement officer takes on a new blush as we watch all that has happened since this time last year. The thought of 70 million people being what is left over from the varied degrees of "just doing my job," takes on a whole new blush when you consider the president's contract has not been renewed due to poor job performance, lack of popularity and high suspicion of corruption. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. WOW! Thanks for posting!

    Frankie your a great Warrior, standing your ground and fighting chasing evil. Your so brave like the Apostles, Moses, The Real Yeshua, Abe Lincoln, Martin Luther The real Knights Templars bf evil King Phillip sold out Vatican into the mafia. The mafia and king Phillip corrupted Christianity. You really changed the world for good. I think even bad guys deeply respect you. You did not sellout.

    Far removed family - We're related to Frank Serpico, through my great grandmother.
    Her name was Angelina Serpico. She immigrated here from Margliano, with her father, around 1905. In 1906, my great grandfather followed Angelina to America, he was in love.
    Angelina married Frank Vaia, and boom, started our family line in Chicago.

    This is what happens when you go against the system. I was bullied and harassed at work by the lead so I went to the supervisor. The supervisor was close with the lead so now I made an enemy of the lead and supervisor so I went to the manager and the supervisor and lead talked all kinds of trash and now the manager was ignoring my complaints. Finally I just went to a lawyer sued the company and quit. It’s a tough uphill battle that’s incredibly frustrating. My life wasn’t in danger but I can only imagine what Frank went through. That’s why there’s a movie about him now and his story is known. My respects to Frank!

    People like Frank Serpico are often despised by the system when they expose the flaws that are there. They are often hounded until they disappear. That is why it is important to maintain good systems and not allow it to deteriorate as getting it back in good condition is really, really hard. Think about that in the age of trump against the USA democracy.
