(at least from my high school and prior school experience) they teach kids to be ashamed of americas history. like America has been a war mongering self righteous land and oil thief. its a real shame and it has a big part to play in todays social climate, specifically antifa, blm (specifically the organization, not the message, i whole heartedly believe in the message black lives matters but the organization is in my opinion using that message to make it so no one can disagree with there movement), and just what seems like a hate for country.

The Lord only knows how many young men survived thanks to his desire to prepare young men for the worst in order to survive. He must have been one tough customer! I am glad you were able to enjoy his company for the remainder of his life.

I'm a Retired Marine Corps Force Recon Gysgt i enlisted in 1991 and Retired in 2015 I've seen Combat in Somalia in '93, Bosnia in '95, Kosovo in '99, Iraq in 2004 and 2006 and Afghanistan in 2008, 2010 and 2012. Just so you know Mr. Davis and his friends his brothers along with my father who is a Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran and so many others who fought before, during and after to include myself and my son who fought in Afghanistan in the Army in 2012 for his first tour at the same time i as a Marine was serving what would be my last tour in Afghanistan. We all made those Sacrifices just so you can leave the comment you did. So on behalf of myself and all those above mentioned i would like to say...YOUR WELCOME YOU LITTLE PRIVILEGED PIECE OF SHIT.
I just met Mr. Davis at an airport. For some reason we kept running in to each other until I was ‘forced ‘ to have a conversation with him. I’m truly humbled by this man. I have not had this spirit of inspiration from another man in a long time. I’m not easily humbled, but I have not felt like such a boy in front of a real man in quite some time. God put our paths together for a reason, and I will never forget Sammy.

The way this young man (at the time) was able to retain battlefield awareness in such a chaotic situation, injured surrounded by enemies, with bullets flying everywhere is incredible. He was an artillery man, a rifleman, a machine gunner, a medic, and a rescue operator all rolled into one. All done while sustaining injuries that would've incapacitated a normal person. God was watching over this hero.
Love how he says “so I started doing my job as a soldier.” Instead of saying “so I started shooting mfs”. This guy is nothing short of amazing.

His mention of needing stay squared away in order to preserve the integrity of the MOH in the face of temptations to do wrong things was very powerful to me. If anyone has the right to have a big ego it is Mr. Davis, yet, he takes the high road of Honor, Integrity and Humility. He inspires me to be a better man now that I've heard him tell his story.
After watching this I just found my one true Hero that I've always hoped to gain inspiration from. This is the definition of how a man should be.

I am massive history buff. Everything from the war in Afghanistan to the viking conquest of england to alexander the great. Nothing and i mean nothing has ever moved me like this film. This man represents everything a man, soldier or human being should be and should strive to be. I can never be thankful enough for people like Sammy. Ever.

This man is the definition of "Humble". My Dad was a Corpsman in Vietnam, received the silver star, and never talked about it, but when asked about his time, he would say the exact same thing, "I was just doing my job". I have great respect for all the honorable men that has fought for Our Nation. God Bless Them All 🇺🇸

PFC Sammy Davis arrived in Vietnam a couple months after I arrived, having transited the Pacific Ocean by Navy troop ship. I wasn't close enough to hear the explosions at the ammo dump but remember the reports vividly. This interview, telling of the events of that night down along the Mekong, is one of the most incredible stories I have ever heard. Here is a man, not just a perfect example of what a soldier can be but, even more so, a wonderful American human being. I salute him!

I did my OSUT training at Fort Sill as a 13B Artillery soldier in 2005. I remember seeing Sammy's plaque and that he was a MOH recipient as an Artillery soldier but didn't know much about his citation for his actions. Years later after I did my own tour in Iraq and was discharged I came across this interview and instantly recognized his face from that plaque. I've watched this interview at least 10 times. Sammy is such a humble man and the way he tells this story of him and all his Artillery brothers brought me to tears. What a great man
The most amazing man I have ever met, humble, honest and above all rest loyal.. it gave me chills when he said he was trained to get the MOH but knew nothing about receiving. They don’t make them like that anymore. I can’t even begin to imagine the scope of what he saw and not once did I hear him say how scared he was but heard him say throughout this riveting interview was how he Loved his brothers in arms with no care for himself but keeping them alive was his motivation to keep going. In my opinion this is one of the greatest Americans I have ever had to privilege to listen to. Just amazing

Humble is an understatement!!
This man is the meaning of the word HERO. He remembers all of his brother's names and where they are/were from. Incredible Soldier, Man and Hero.
People throw the word "hero" around way too easily when it comes to these veterans. He was a "hero" to those he was with in Vietnam. The rest who believe he is a "hero" believe in the Tooth Fairy" also. Vietnam did absolutely nothing for American safety, security and freedom. All it did was claim 60000 American lives and waste the country in treasure and talent. Not to mention it almost tore America apart. He was an invader and aggressor in someone else's country that did nothing to Americans or the USA. When it comes to Vietnam...he can get to the back of the line when the term "hero" is used. There are tons of people in society that are true heroes that no one will want a video of. This man allowed himself to be sent by his government to another continent and hemisphere to kill or be killed. The US never had the guts, integrity or authority to declare war. He was an invader and aggressor in someone else's country that did nothing to Americans or the US. He did absolutely nothing for American safety, security and freedom by being in Vietnam. He was a chump and a pawn of the US Government and the military/industrial complex. He is not a hero or someone's victim. He is a survivor of an American disaster that he contributed to

I met this gentleman at the wall.. I was in an honor guard at a ceremony and he was an invited speaker. A genuine humble and caring man. Spoke softly and was interested all of the rest of us in uniform. I am proud to have shaken his hand and hope that some of what he his rubbed off on me. I felt a kinship with him in one way, we both played harmonica..lol

The part where he talked about holding the grandchild of his fellow soldier he saved was enough to get me misty eyed lol.
Mr. Davis is neighbor of mine, that is to say he lives not over two miles from me in SW Central Indiana in the country. I met him and his wife once at a local Cracker Barrel. You have to be in awe of a fellow like this and just wish and hope that there are more out there just like him.

My day has changed. So has my mind. Mr Davis made difference the day he did his job in Vietnam,. November 18th 1967, and he's made a difference again today, January 2 2022, by reminding me about love and spirit. We all face a battle of sorts in life. We don't lose until we give up.
I met the man when I was just 15. I heard him and his wife (an equally amazing person) tell this and other stories.
He told of why he joined, the patriotism he felt, and how much it pained him that they had no public support. He then played "Shenandoah" on the harmonica- to this day one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard
Situations don't create heroes- but they do expose them. Sammy davis is an ordinary man, who's experience has exposed extraordinary heart.

In my life I have had the distinct honor of personally knowing five Medal of Honor recipients. I have not met Sammy L. Davis, MOH but I would love to...just to say to him, which he would discount, that he is a hero of heroes...not just for the actions in battle, but for being the kind, soft spoken, genuine, loving man among men that he is. All that came through in this interview. Thank you Mr. Davis for your service to our Nation and for continuing to give of yourself to our citizens. You truly are one of a kind among men.
Cheryl I had the honor and privilege of meeting Sammy Davis in the early 90's when my daughter was attending Manteca High near Stockton, California. He was the most humble unassuming person I have ever met. He was very respectful of the 5th Marines. I also had the honor of knowing Vince Rios when he served with Alpha Company 1st Battalion 5th Marines. Vince was, and still is my hero.

This man is a downright American hero. Yet his humility and respectful manners is 180 degrees counter to Hollywood and Netflix typecasting. I truly wish movie and TV writers/producers would research men like Sammy L. Davis and use these real life heroes as characters in their productions. If they did, generations would have respect for the men who fight and sometimes die for our freedom.

This man was a 'recipient' of the Medal of Honor because he truly 'earned' it by doing his job. His story is truly captivating and because he was nominated for the Medal of Honor by his fellow brothers-in-arms says it all. The idea that the video starts with his expressing that he understands the difference between those that oppose a war and those that oppose a warrior points out that he received the Medal of Honor because of his deeds and NOT because of his military rank or social status. He is a gentleman's gentleman. Period.

2nd time I’ve seen this video, now I know what the meaning of “ Humble “. He’s a humble man, with a very soft touch that makes my heart glow warm. I served about 6 months ahead of him and know of what he talks, I’m so jealous, because I have not been humble, I’ve been bitter and feel shame. May God be with him till death.

I missed going by just a few years. A couple of the older guys living on my street got drafted. You have every right to feel bitter, but by NO men's should you feel shame. The people who should be ashamed of themselves are the people who contributed to the horrible, disgraceful way y'all were treated when you came home. Whether you got drafted or signed up voluntarily, there's no greater honor than serving our great Country. Thank you for your service Sir, you deserve so much more than you got. OMG! I am listening to this amazing man talk in such a calm every day voice, he tells his story calmly without emotion and every minute this goes on this hero become larger and larger. I am amazed at his bravery, his strength and loyalty towards his brothers. I really don't have words that make justice to such a hero. My grandfather was in the Pacific during world war II. My grandfather raised me and taught me that my integrity is my most valuable possession. This gentleman is the embodiment of what my grandfather taught me. This man's story is most likely the most inspiring thing I have ever heard. He has my utmost respect.

I believe back in 2012, or 2013 I flew from Indianapolis to Louisiana thru Dallas. Mr Davis and his wife was on that flight. The pilot that we had announce a Medal of Honor winner on the flight. Being a retired Military myself I knew what that meant. Evidently he was going to Dallas for a Medal of Honor Conference. I was able to met him briefly in the terminal in Dallas. What a humbling experience for me. Not everybody will get this decoration in their career. What an honor for me! Thank you Sammy.

When I was stationed at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, In in the late 1980s. I saw him speak at several VFW, American legion halls. He was always polite and a model soldier even though he was no longer active duty.
It was an honor to shake his hand and salute him and the Medal of Honor. He would always tell what he did to earn the M.oH.. He saved many lives while risking his own while under fire as I recall

Tears in my eyes while you recited your acts of Heroism. Our Dad was in Luzon, building bridges, airstrips and Yes, guarding Ammo. After WWII he served as Civilian in the Polaris Sub Program at Mare Island, Maritime Machinist and in Planning and Estimating. Built lots of Nuke Subs.He also was one of the very few Civilians ever to be assigned to Nuclear Power School, received a Commendation Medal by the Naval Commander:
4-Star Gen. Hyman Rickover. Dad had a coronary on the job from relentless 12 hour days/and weeks.This was his 20th year of Nuclear Polaris Submarine production. He was put on immediate Medical Retirement. His "superior" didn't like him because he didn't "join in the reindeer games", drinking, smoking or carousing after hours. We are all LDS Elders. When Admiral Rickover came to present the Medal, "boss" said, "I will get it to him". Rickover said, No, I will wait here, since you said he would be here, Right? Yes, Max R. Stephensen received his Medal from Admiral Rickover, personally. Sorry to be long-winded here, but Dad was a true Patriot who was proud of his work for the United States Navy and that all 3 of his sons followed his Lead. It took 4 guys to take over his job. Passed on at age 93, in Mesa, AZ. about 6 years ago.

We are from Vallejo, just north of Stockton. We lost 2 Pilots in our family. Maj. Mont Stephensen, B-26 Pilot over Germany WWII, and LT.Col.
Mark Stephensen, RF4D Pilot, down over the DMZ in Nam. The Riverton, UT Post Office was christened the Mark & Mont Memorial Post Office in their Honor. It took 18 years to reclaim Mark's remains from the Vietnamese. HIS wife, Vickie Stephensen performed countless hours of service to The Nation in support of THE MIA-POW Organization continuously until she passed recently. She had resided at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. Thank you Sammy for your PROUD AND HEROIC SERVICE. GOD BLESS YOU AND FAMILY! Our family absolutely LOVED serving. Our Nephew, CPO Stephen Stephensen is a Combat Instructor at Camp Williams, UT a Zillion tours abroad as a Marksman. Proud to be True Patriots, ALL!! !! !!

I'm surprised that all the time I was an artilleryman that I never heard of this man but I'm so glad that I stumbled across this video and was privileged to hear his story. Whether he believes it or not he's a hero, a very humble hero that did his job very well.
