@tubewaldo I bought it with the auto, thought about swapping in one of my spare 4 speeds, but with all the things that require my attention when towing off-road I think the auto makes things a little easier.
Lockers, bigger tires, suspension, even a winch, soothing compares to knowledge of what you've got, your surroundings, and just plain knowledge of what your doing. Two years and he still has a lot to learn.
@walston410 It has 3in of lift and full tread 33in mud tires. I think it will do OK on the trail. It is hard to see in the video but the trail is an extreme frame twister, some of my Jeeps I have had over the years would even lift tires going through there.

@wagon455 He has a lockrite to put in the rear. Yes the wrecker could use a whole new cab, it's ripping apart at the seams. no strength left when the rockers rust off.
I LOVE this truck. I own one just like but not lifted that high yet. I have the same issue with mine it needs lockers so freaking badly its insane. But I never had to be pulled out........yet.....
well look he does need a second guy a he does need some lockers in the chevy but he is willing to tear up his truck to carry camera men so i see no reason to keep him
This really goes to show the power of lockers and proper gear setup for these rigs. Its not a bad tahoe but would really benefit from some eaton lockers.

The owner did not try to cross it the same way he drove at a lessor angle notice u did not see his tires lifting? a littil trick i use on a rwd or 4wd with open diff... click the e brake just enuf to get a littil drag on it it will help to keep the rear tires turnin
@cmuscarella question is back in nov, i blew out my gov-loc carrier that came factory now i live where theres snow and the streets are bad , but as it currently stands my mighty yukon as i call her lol has the gear ratio of 3.42 posi looks exactly like mikes white tahoe i see. so what im asking is .. the 342 ratio straight posi safe enough to pull cars and trucks as i do? i feel i basically have 3 wheel drive ya kno.how is that yukon gear that bought for the wrecker?
@mikenmelissa1 ah ok, I run 33x13 claws on my other wise stock sierra and they are my everyday/off road tire. I used them to snow plow last winter and they were always gripping in the snow, they are great on rocks and mud too. they are also very well mannered on the street no humming that i notice

get him an fzj. stronger axles full floater in the rear flexy coil spring suspension . front and rear factory lockers if you find the rite one. I miss mine .
weld the diff up I did to my brothers 2wd ford courier and put some blocks on the leaf springs in the rear and a set of taller ones in the front with some old tractor tires in the rear and that thing would have made it up this
I don't see a half ton IFS Tahoe being a ton of help in tough recoveries.Guy needs to SAS that truck,Throw some 1 ton axles under it,crossover steering.And a good winch then it could be an excellent assistance rig.
some lockers Or some nice limited slips :) and better tires... their not a aggressive mud terrain tire so they dont hook well in the soft soil/mud/ what ever else
i got a 96 yukon that does something like the wrecker does except i do recoveries in the city you sir eric are an inspiration =) kudos to broke stuck & fucked recovery team. if i may i'd like to pick your brain about that yukon differential gear and carrier u installed in ur wrecker if u have time that is

I will have to agree with a few different people. The issue seems to be a couple different things. The driver for an experienced mud bogger...should be reading the terrain better...just like how the guy had to tell him to straddle the one ditch he encountered at 3:23. As fat as the truck goes...nice truck overall...yet I think the size of the tires compared to the weight of that particular truck, are not working together. The tires are digging...but there is not enough surface area.

@frosty012 yes baja claws are in future plans, once the susp lift goes in. these are just a set we had sitting around.
I'd suggest keeping the Tahoe on asphalt or investing in some from and rear lockers.
You are right Matt, they do make lockers for ifs, but they don't make them for 8.25 Chevys ifs from my research

I was doing all that with my 96 Yukon in 2wd with Michelins though
