the "unsupported" overhanging roof is called a cantilever... the extra effort you put into it can't hurt regardless

So, the plastic or metal above the newly installed stonework....is that all decorative? No support at all? I'm not a construction guy, just confused about the purpose of it. it seemed like it was just floating above the top stone slab.

What is exactly the name of this stone you used?

There should have been at least a 4" x 4" post and really a 6" x 6" post beam inside of that column to support the weight. Whoever did this did a crap job and there is no way that house is built to code.
