    Fun facts about the film!
    1. There was a pink paint shortage due to all the paint used in the film
    2. The old lady next to Barbie at the bus stop is Ann Roth, an Oscar-winning costume designer and a friend of Gerwig's
    3. The montage of woman at the end were home videos sent in by the crew of women they admired.
    3. One of the women shown in the montage was a woman named Kimberly. She passed away a year before the film came out and a friend of hers got to interview Greta where he tells her about Kimberly and how he appreciated seeing his friend one more time.

@@jakubgodyn7413 I am a middle aged man, and I say, with total respect (maybe) this one BARBIE movie shoves it down our throats? the second half shoves its message "down your throat"?? as opposed to something happening like someone trying to "grab 'em by the pu**y" which someone did. our former president did this. and bragged about it. and is now paying millions of dollars in damages because of "grabbing someone by the pu**y", this movie shoves down your throat as opposed to the 82 cents a woman makes for the $1 every man makes, as opposed to roe v. wade being taken away after 50 years of precedent, the recent ruling in Alabama, a 10 year old girl getting pregnant from being raped, yet couldn't get an abortion to save her own life in her own state because of these new restrictive laws they just passed? a bunch of old men passed these laws about women's body autonomy. -how about that for shoving something down your throat if you are a woman in America, as opposed to the 2nd half of the BARBIE movie for you. (??)
there are no current laws that restrict any procedure or any action for a mans body. nothing. men are free from this equation. yet, it takes both the sperm and the egg to create this precious baby. that means the male and the female created this half and half right?? -why does the woman have to go to jail only. why isn't the man arrested like the women are being arrested?? that baby is half of the males creation. (in the case of the rape of a 10 year old girl I would say that baby is maybe even more the males responsibility than just half-come on?! This is the world every day for women-yet the BARBIE movie's second half shoved it down your throat? you poor thing. god love you. what do you do when it rains? or when the wind blows really loud? it must be just awful for you. do you walk around with special packaging around you so you don't accidentally get broken? think about getting pregnant from being raped at 10 years old if you want to think about something shoved down someones throat. and don't even try it. it is all part of one thing. they are linked. they all come from intolerance and a fight for power. which is what you are describing and illustrating with your comment. make no mistake,. we see it.

Barbie choosing the real world (The patriarchy over the matriarchy) is pretty significant in that sense so I would have to think so. She would rather work to become an equal than being granted privileges within her original society. Even when that world is "fixed" is it really? When they have all that empty stage to dance on during Ken's big number it's a big ol' homage to a similar sequence in Singin' in the Rain and that's what I love most about Barbie, it's full of moments like that of paying respects to the classics but at no point does it feel like it steals from them like so many movies do, it's extremely modern and classic at the same time, like any great movie. The box art mimicked the Midge/Barbie box but the image of Ken behind him "Ken's clothes fit him" looked too gay for the 50's customers and he was almost immediately discontinued. They made a brief revival of the doll in the 90's w a backstreet boys look and that didn't help lol. Once again they stopped making him. Thats why they make the boy band joke. All thats left in barbieland is the OG Allan. My mom actually has an Allan doll lol. The doll looked a bit like Archie from archie comics.

For the question of “They’re All Barbie?” So Mattel did come out with many Varieties of Friends for Both Barbie & Ken (Allan and Midge for example were the First Friends and Friends that were also a Couple they Had) There are Many other Friends like Christie, Theresa, Nicki, Kira, Becky, Ryan, Blaine (Barbie’s Australian Ex funny enough), Steven and so much more she even has Cousins too. But what I think is the Reason they’re called Barbie is because the Barbie dolls that are sold now are mostly just Packaged as Barbie on the box and you kinda don’t see many lines with names of Barbie’s Friends on them that much anymore. Also think they just called them all Barbie cuz it’s easier instead of them all having individual names.
*Edit:* so towards the end when you were looking up if Barbie’s are expensive it depends on the doll, like the Discontinued ones some of them sell (if In the box with all contents can go up in price value sometimes), not all Dolls from certain lines but some can be Valuable, in some cases the doll can still be valuable without the box and sometimes not depending on the Specific doll like some of the Discontinued and Cancelled.

    • @LangkeeLongkee

They still sell the named dolls but the named dolls they sell only show up in other media if that makes sense. So they sell dolls from Barbie movies where she's playing a character and Barbie shows/movies where she's still Barbie. So Theresa for example is still sold as Theresa because she's still used as one of Barbie's friends a lot.
I haven't seen the newest Barbie series though I've heard it very good, they sell her friends from that show too.

I was too old for Barbie when she came out, but a few years ago I created a Halloween Barbie Birdcage with a werewolf Barbie, a Mummy Mommy with a Cuisanart, Bride of Frankenstein and Dracula and Medusa. I entered it in the Oklahoma State Fair and had a great time watching reactions. It was considered sacrilege to do that to even thrift store Barbies. Now I know from his movie that I am a creator of weird Barbies.

this is such an important movie. Especially when Barbie says at the end she doesn't want to be an idea, she wants to deliver ideas. This is such a projectile of a woman seen as a "product" or idea, but in fact (many) women want to do stuff and also inspire. Ken realising he doesn't need stuff (not even other woman) to accept him as who he is... that's how every human should see himself. Ken was also designed as a Buddy or a couple part, because Barbie was getting too independent and it was unheard of to have a female role model being on her own (without a man/husband/boyfriend etc). It was also never Barbies fault Ken didn't have anything other than her, since her world was designed for girls and they wouldn't play with a Kens house or anything :D which applies to the company sacrifying Kens individuality for profit. You don't need cars or a coat (or other people) to define you for who you are and you never shouldn't fall for all the commerce shit telling you "this is what you need". That's why you also can rip off the patriarchy, but ofcourse the system won't let you.

One of the Kens at Weird Barbie's house is "Magic Earring Ken," aka C**k Ring Ken. Designers were trying to make Ken "hip" so they went to trendy clubs at the time, and noticed a certain fashion trend where gay men would wear a c**k ring as a necklace, but the designers didn't realize that that's what it was. This got all the way to stores until gay men noticed it, and then Mattel pulled it from stores when this was brought to their attention.

Couple fun facts: "Sugar Daddy Ken" was actually "Sugar's Daddy Ken" (with Sugar being the dog, like they said). It was created as a tongue-in-cheek variant for adult collectors. As for "Magic Earring Ken"... he was designed to be "fashionable", but the designer didn't really understand what he was doing. He thought he was co-opting club fashion, but he was actually co-opting gay fashion, and the ring he thought was an earring was actually a cock ring. So you can understand why that Ken didn't last very long 😅
