This movie was so good, it was SUBLIME!
Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling knocked it out the park as Barbie and Ken! What did you think?

Me and a friend took our nieces to this movie expecting nothing but cringe. We came out feeling some how liberated and throughly entertained. I think they funniest part was our nieces went in hyped for Barbie and came out LOVING Ken! 😂 they were singing "I'm just Ken" the whole way home. Now every time my sister yells at me she says, "Stop bullying Uncle he's Ken-enough for me!" 😂🤣😂🤣😂 Going to see this movie with her was the best decision I've ever made!

Well they said that “They will give Kens as much power in Barbieland as women have in the real world”. So obviously women’s rights was done along time ago. But like they said in this movie they’re just doing a “better” job at hiding the patriarchy we still do live in a VERY MANS WORLD. So until it is truly/genuinely equally between men and women in the real world the Kens will continue to only have a small part in the governing. But the roles are reversed to show that this is what we women really do deal with and feel the majority of the time in our lives. So they reversed it in this movie to show that men (Ken) dont like being treated that way either. But alot of men do that to women in real life. So the message here is no one likes to be treated that way no matter the gender everyone should be treated equal. 🩷

    • @flugsven
      @flugsven ปีที่แล้ว +10

And to reach that goal we need to leave patriarchy behind. It just makes men bitter and women crazy anyway.

  • @Heida77

People who say this movie is about hating men or anti-motherhood either didn't get it or have not seen it. It's a commentary about how women are viewed as less than in the real world. But the message is not that women are superior to men, it's that we're equal and each have a purpose. Barbie doesn't just exist to look good and Ken doesn't just exist to be by Barbie's side. They are both worthy of happiness and love as individuals.
And America Ferrera's character specifically says that it's okay to "just" be a mum. You don't have to have a career or choose between a career and being a mum. Plus the pregnant Barbie was a real Barbie that was discontinued because people thought the idea of it was funny seeing as she didn't have a vagina.
Speaking of, the ending with her going to the gynecologist, now that she has a vagina, is actually genius.
Margot Robbie is fabulous as always but Ryan Gosling just took it to another level!

Its kinda sad how many people completely missed the message of the movie even though it's quite simple

Ok you lost me when you cut out the best speech of the entire movie which was ridiculous since it was in essence what the entire movie was about. No, you wanted to feel sorry for Ken and wanted barbie to get a taste of her own medicine. Tho nothing about that's what women deal with DAILY. But ken, a guy,? Powerless? Omg blasphemy! Typical guy response. And taking out that amazing speech which was 100% accurate by the way sealed it. Did it make you uncomfortable? Good.

So.. Allan is the only Allan left. He made a point to say the others ran away to our world. I was wondering if Will Ferrel was one. He’s the only Mattel employee who wears pinks, and he seems confused by simple tasks just like Allan was when trying to climb over the cubicle vs running around the aisle.. where Allan tried climbing over the cafe fence instead of walking around to the sidewalk. Just something to think about!

There was this one cryptic headline when Barbie came out like, Did this Barbie joke go too far?" and they avoided repeating it in the article so I was left having no idea what it was. I thought maybe it was the Justin Timberlake is an Allan joke. I literally had no idea that men cared THAT much about the Snyder cut of Justice League. It totally works in the context of this movie though. Men apparently care so so much about it and women are not even aware that it is important to you until they are brainwashed to think like you. If I was brainwashed to think like a man, I would expect my thoughts to be about b00bs and snacks, not a DC movie.

LMAO an ex of mine and at least 2 other dudes i've been on tinder meetups with rave about the Snyder cut. What's funny is, your last sentence just illustrates how there is a male and female gaze and we often confuse our perception with reality. Women think men only care about boobs and snacks and cars, and while true, that's as much of a stereotype/extreme as men thinking women only care about clothes and makeup and nails or some shit.

There are so many things in this movie that can educate men but they just fly over their heads. Cutting the whole entire speech, the "just take the compliment" and "you will taste ur own medicine" - ugh, this is why we need more movies like barbie.

Greta Gerwig is often considered a feminist filmmaker, with her films surrounding female protagonists facing issues with identity, independence, and the challenges women face. Gerwig’s approach to storytelling and character development often reflects feminist principles, emphasizing the complexity and agency of her female characters. However, Barbie is written by her and her husband, Noah Baumbach, which gives the male character Ken an ample backstory to Barbie’s struggles. It balances out both narratives about how the real world is versus Barbieland when women are empowered. In the end, Barbie wants to be a real woman, and Ken wants to be himself outside of Barbie’s shadow.
If Blake likes Will Ferrel here, he must check out The Lego Movie (2014). It’s also an unexpected gem of a film.

I was a bit surprised at how stone faced you were, but I guess we all have different humor. I'm an old mum after all (to two young men)
I thought it might be silly, but I loved the goofyness. I laughed so hard I almost choked immediately, and it also stirred something.
I realised I Had to watch it again to get the finer points. There were a lot cleverly hidden beneath the humor, while some messages were kicked like hard balls in your stomach. Ken's journey was rough but ended on a wholesome note.
It was harder than I thought it would be to analyse the movie because we are in two worlds with quite different rules. But why the Kens were kind of forgotten, it was because the girls playing with Barbie weren't that into Ken. He was like another purse, or furniture... Barbie didn't know better. She was a doll and behaved like the girls played her to be. It's not until they go into the real world they get some autonomy and new perspectives.
I thought it was fun and okey when I left the movie theatre, but now I love it.

The beach scene is so funny. Actually, the whole kendom thing is like when your brother wanted to join you when you played with the Barbies. ”Nooo! You’re doing it wrong! The Playmos/GI joes don’t belong in Barbieland. Moooom!”

    • @theConquerersMama
      @theConquerersMama ปีที่แล้ว +1

Yes! People miss that Gloria said she never got a Ken. So in her "verse", Ken is essentially still in a box as an accessory to be played with by a little brother.
In fact, most of the dolls present as being the way they were played with. That's why Weird Barbie is more curious and other Barbie & Ken's are closer. But they are all pretty much a prepubescent's idea of adults.

Sometimes I think Blake is giving off red flags, which I really felt during the haunting of hill house and bly manor , and Star Wars of course. But Blake is just another smart and opinionated guy who gives thing a chance with an open mind, which is more than other people are willing to do. Makes sense cause Blake is evidently a smart and composed gentleman. Igli and Corey are different shades of the same beautiful color. This is why I love this channel. Different perspectives that are respected, with guys who aren’t afraid to be themselves . I use to think Blake secretly hated or had some resentment/annoyance towards Igli because their opinions and comments/joke clash, but I now think they love and respect each other for that ability to mess with each other but still respect and provide serious/well-thought commentary. I just realized how the topic of Ken and Barbie realizing how they can live on their own, have their own separate identities, etc, can be said for many other topics.
I began thinking about how famous the color pink is, but not purple or other colors. The same with the color blue. Also, the fact that it is nearly a sense of pressure to place only those two colors on children because those are the only colors that have been mostly promoted onto clothing, etc. for infants and kids.
Maybe the same can be said about the nearly permanent conditioning of what skin color and culture is more favored.
Yet, with all that colors and the such, everyone can just simply learn to love their identity.
BTS came out a long while back with the words and CD series called "Love Yourself" (YL).
The Barbie world song also made Mattel create the new 3d Barbie films and shows. I am unsure if that is why they made this film.
Loved your reactional honesty to this film. I too believe Ken is kenough as he is and will become. I believe that for each of you as well💜

That, and after attending DragonCon this year, I never want to see another Barbie Cosplay or hear "Hi Barbie!" again. 😂

Ill be honest, at first i didn't wanna see it cuz all the political stuff surrounding it that i heard. Im leave that out of entertainment unless its particularly pertaining to that stuff. I misinterpreted all that stuff and i love it!!

Art is political. It's impossible to make art and be impartial.

Critical Drinker’s breakdown was horrible. It was like he didn’t even see the movie. Just pandering for rage clicks.

Im annoyed with Blake. He makes me roll my eyes because he’s the type of dude I’d marry yet be dependent on to set the coffee maker to brew in the morning. 😂

So late on watching this but Will Ferrell does a good serious role in “stranger than fiction”, also I super love the cartoon Barbie avatars !!
