I actually am from VA... well I do have a story.. My Mama was taking the cap off a radiator in the car to put water in... she thought it was getting a little hot but apparently it was way hotter than anyone knew cuz it blew and scalded her arm and hand . It was a really awful burn and we took her to the hospital... well they treated her and after so long we brought her home.. That pain medicine wore off and the amount of pain she was in was devastating..it got so bad she could do nothing but scream and cry..no medicine helped nothing!!! My uncle said he knew a Man that can take the fire out of her burn...he went and got the Man cuz nothing else helped.. That Man came and he told us we can stay in the room or not just stay quiet...he held her hand and was saying stuff noone could understand but as soon as he finished she stopped crying and said she could not even feel it anymore.. .. he said he was the 7th son of the seventh son!!! As I'm typing this you just said something about the Man that can do that.. OMG I am in shock!!!!

Yeah, that man had oxycontin or Dilaudid and was a fan of Iron Maiden! The bigger question is who takes the radiator cap off a running vehicle without using a towel or rag? Only someone who has no business doing so Unless the whole goal was to be burned to justify a visit from the witch doctor feel good without being judged by family members! Was the Witch doctor's name Rat tailed Jimmy and he drove a 65 Chevy with primered flames and Got a cozy little job selling the Mexican mob

Wonderful stories, I had an old black man rub a seed wart on my finger it stayed sore and painful. I had it for years, after he rubbed it n whisper some words i waited a few weeks thinking it's not gonna work. And one day it was just poof gone. I know it's not a big thing, but that wart drove me crazy, and hurt.

I had an abusive stepfather, and My grandma on my father's side used to tell me she was "granny good witch" and she would always protect me, she even did a little protection spell,
I didn't take it very seriously but as a grown man I've dodged death so many times, and gotten out of so many sketchy situations, like I had a guardian angel with me

I grew up in the foothills of the Appalachians. My mother is Native American and my father is of German/Scottish decent. My maternal grandmother had the gift of "dreamin" as she called it. She knew when someone in the family was pregnant and when there would be a coming tragedy. So if she started talking about having dreams of fish or fishing all the females would go take a test if it were possible they were pregnant. Lol...my gma was right 100% of the time. Her husband's (my gpa) mother was a healer and he somewhat was too. He was best known to be able to see plainly in the dark. He would never use flashlights or drive at night because the light would hurt his eyes. Nights during the new moon was his favorite time to go for a walk in the woods behind his house. During the summer I would go with him on these walks. In the beginning I had to hold a strap from his overalls to even walk. I told him that I was going to have to start bringing a light with us. He looked at me but i could tell his thoughts were a million miles away. He didn't say a word and started gathering wood for a fire. He lit the fire and told me to sit with my back to him but facing the fire. I did so. I could hear the click of him opening his pocket knife. He told me to close my eyes and say aloud "Night to day" 3 times. He took his finger and smeared something on both my eyelids and said something in his native tongue. He placed his hand over my still closed eyes and blew smoke in my face 3 times. Long story short 3 nights from that night on, and to this day, I can still see perfectly at night. Though it does hurt to drive at night...lol

Would continue to be ticketed. And I was. I was in my teens 18 or 19 judge musta had some seeing abilities cause he thought it was a joke and said miss might be they invent a self driving care and none of us will need lights till then cut em. Now look! They have but I wont never afford one.
I can attest to that luv,I'm Choctaw and Irish,I've had the ability to see perfectly in the dark,I walk my wooded property at night all the time,never needed any kind of light.

My Daddys Mom was from Ireland, red hair, green eyes, and my Daddy was only boy
Had 3 sisters...Dad was an infant and doctor told my Grandmother he wasn't going to live. Well, Annie and a black lady got together, took goats milk, herbs and roots my Grandmother had and in summation brewed up milk with the additives of roots and herbs then fed it to daddy in a bottle and he lived. Word has it my Grandmother was tagged as a witch. She was dying with cancer and she put a curse on my Grandfather who was Cherokee and Irish, the curse was called the Rollers...basically he would never be able to live anywhere long and never be happy....he died like that...state to state, city to city. NOW, I don't know if she was actually a witch or just used mountain remedies and the power of suggestion. Several family members confessed she was a witch but not sure if white witch or black witch. Here's why, Daddy brought her back a ring from overseas and after I was born, she had her adult kids together and put the ring in a box and it was to be given to me when I was 16....one of the daughters had the ring. My Daddy got killed when I was 16 and after the service Mom asked about the ring. That caused a stir...Elizabeth had the ring, Viola wanted it for her daughter. So, Elizabeth got it and warned they weren't supposed to open it. Well, Viola opened it, the ring was there, she picked it up and it crumbled...a 14k gold and ruby.
Elizabeth stated she was expecting worse bc her mama put a curse on it in case anybody opened it but me!
So, you figure it out. My Daddys parents were share croppers.
Raised in N MS but we all had people like this around. Like my great uncle was the 7th son, I had to drink water from his boot one time for strep throat. It worked.
If you got burned he could read a Bible verse and slap the burn out of you with it.
And we other friends/family that all had things like this we went to them for.
Watched my grandpa Devine for a well. He walked around a couple hours in the morning, laid some sticks around certain places. Did it again little later and picked a spot on a hillside. We drew water from there until they passed away.
They never even entertained it was something evil. They gave all praise to the Good Lord for those gifts.

Half my family is from Kentucky the other West Virginia. I really love these stories, it's like listening to an uncle tell how my kin lived. I appreciate this content completely, makes me feel closer to my roots. God bless ya for this. Witches are usually depicted as evil. They are just people with ancient knowledge that know how to use it. We are forgetting valuable knowledge that we should never forget because it could save our lives.

I just wanted to thank you for this. I’m from West Virginia but I live in California now due to health reasons. I was feeling incredibly home sick and depressed this morning. Times are hard right now, my 15 year old dog died recently and I miss her terribly, not really able to pay all my bills this month, kids are busy with their own lives…you know just life happening, nothing really bad,my health is good, got plenty of food, plenty to be grateful for, just having a hard day ya know. And all of a sudden your video comes up, wasn’t watching anything about witches or back home recently…must have been sent by the hand of God to me, but just hearing your voice, ya know, the way we talk, our words, has made me feel so much better this morning!

Same wasn’t looking for anything particular and these stories came up. Firsts thing I’m thinking of was granny and her stories on her back porch. Being that she was from W Virginia she always told us not to leave the porch after dark by ourselves after dark there were boggies out past the property.

There were always 2 kinds of witches.
My great grandmother can tell you about her mother who would do awful things and gloried in being evil.
She was the absolute opposite of a healer.
You'd feel like you were dying of the flu to spend any time alone with her.
For example she had an unreasonable amount of children die. Even for the era.
She was killing them to hoodoo with blood and bones.
That's my Grannys word on what happened to them.
My grandmother once said I carried a family curse and that I would know what it was when I came of age. It's not a curse, it's a blessing: I'm a healer, for the most part. One thing I never tell anyone is that I can smell death on a person. Once I smell it, it usually happens with a few days. I can put my hand on a pregnant belly and tell what she's having. I think I got that one from my aunt. I wasn't raised in the education of herbs, though. I know that old man's beard is good for arthritis, but I can't find it anywhere. I discovered that I came from a long line of healers. I'm in southern WV. I used to be able to put my hands on an injury and take the pain into myself.

@@keljaxx with certain herbs, yes. Mullein is good for the lungs. You can dry the leaves and brew a tea with them. You can actually use the the flowers in the tea, too. It clears inflammation and congestion from the lungs. Jewel weed can be steeped in coconut oil and used to kill poison ivy. If you don't wanna go through all that, just crush it and rub the juice on the rash.
The first thought that came to mind when you talked about the ''witch'' bringing milk to the girl and her granny was that she was doing them a kindness when no one else did. Love your story telling.

Jared, I loved the stories you told, I believe in the mountain ways.. I had an aunt by marriage that could stop bleeding and actually removed a seed wart from my chin as a child.. I used to have severe nose bleeds, my mother always called my aunt to come and she would say a few words over me and read a verse from the Bible and my nose would stop bleeding, if she wasn’t available, my mother would have to take me to the small clinic in town and the Drs would pack my nose to stop it.. so, I am a believer.. thanks for sharing..

You believe in the power of the lord healing? Many places outside of Appalachian believe the same. Sucks there isn’t any actual proof of anything significant being cured by them or it might be more believable. All we have are stories and not many of those. Makes for great storytelling tho as this was a well told story.

I had an aunt like that, as a child I was always so amazed by the things she could do. Whether it be saying a prayer over us when we needed it from getting hurt or reading a scripture from the Bible to run an evil spirit out of our house. She had the gift…🙂
The "verse on paper" Each week, a Bible verse was written on little strips of paper. To carry to memorize. I would not be surprised if connected.
My ex husband grandpa was a healer in the Virginia Appalachian mountains they tell the story how he healed a little girl to walk again when the doctor said she would never walk again I love listening to the stories of the Appalachian mountains people ❤️

Wonderful storytelling. I worked for a little woman years ago who was what we mountain people called a faith healer. She used passages from the Bible to cure and heal a number of things. She was an awesome lady and I miss her greatly but she passed on several years back now but I’ll always be thankful for getting to know her and spend so much time with her. People in my family keep camphor blocks in water in the fridge and then we take a little and put in on a clean rag. Helps with eye pain and also good for cuts and scrapes and helps stop bleeding. Good for muscle soreness as well. Also good to help open you up when you can't breath. If she's have any eye pain that might help. They use to sell it at the store but now days I get it off Amazon. I'll be praying for your momma. The greatest healer is God himself and prayer works miracles.

I have had macular degeneration and optometrist gave me shots in the and healed it, yes the eye is deadened. Cured. She can be helped
My great grandmother was often called upon to rid people of "unwanted guests" in their homes. She was married to a hardshell baptist preacher. She was from West Virginia. The mountains feel like home to me even though I didn't live there. Our family farm in WV was sold a few years ago, but I always felt I belonged there.

Wow! I sure needed her a few months ago. I allowed a friend to stay with us "a couple of months" while she got back on her feet. That couple of months turned into 13m and we finally had to get rid of her. She still owes us 1/2 years rent tho.
I just found your channel and I love it. I'm from Tennessee but I'm not from the appalachia's. I'm from a place called Short Mountain. Scientist believe that they were at one time the foothills of the appalachia's but broke off. But many of your stories made me reminisce about my granny. If I didn't witness this myself I would have never believed it. She told my aunt that it was time to ween her son from the bottle. She said that the moon and the stars where lined up right. She told her not to give him a bottle that night. I will have you know that child never touched another bottle after that. He drank from a cup. She said she did that with all of us. She also had the ability to if a person was a good or bad. She would say something like "I like this person, I got a good feeling about them," or she would say, "I don't like this person, something about them don't feel right." And dang wouldn't she be spot on. I seem to have some of this ability myself. And trust me it has served me well.

That title really is not really appropriate I agree but to be honest neither is yours. . They have always been spiritual or faith healers because they used God's word to heal . While energy work is also a very good thing spiritual healing / faith healing has been documented from the time Jesus walked the earth. It's not about energy it's about Faith.
I bet not everything back in them hills have changed and there’s still folks that no one messes with. Folks probably still practice, especially as "knowledge" is passed down through families. Most excellent storytelling, Sir! I was hanging on every word.

There are a few of us around. Scattered.
My mammaw told me a story involving a family member having to put a sewing needle in the butter churn when they started churning in order to break a spell to get either the chickens to lay or cows to give milk (I don't remember which one). When the butter was done, the needle wasn't found and the animals went back to giving which ever it was the next day. Thank you for telling the stories!

I love the way you tell these old stories and I could listen to them all day. I'm just a country boy from Alabama. I am a firm believer in GOD!!! And JESUS said the we could do what HE did and greater. We have used the scripture about blood many times. And we too have healers as you call them. I knew two people in my life that could heal trash. Just by blowing in the sick one's mouth. They never would let anyone see them do it. And I was always told growing up that they never knew their fathers. Not sure what that has to do with anything but I was always told that. My daddy’s family are mostly from bell county ( Ky) and Lee county( Va).
I grew up hearing about how when daddy was younger he got real sick. Bedridden for almost a yr. Countless doctors, specialists and nobody could figure out what was wrong with him. A witch told my granny Pea Eyes that a hex had been put on him and told her what herbs and roots to gather and how to prepare and give to him. She did as she was told and he got better.
So yrs later i guess the old witch would have spells , during which she wouldn’t keep her clothes on, wouldn’t know to fix herself food , so my granny would go up the mountain and take care of her until the spell passed. Everyone else was afraid of her. Now my mommy born and bred in the north never heard of such things. But one of her first times down home with daddy she met my granny and the witch. Told me pictures would raise up on the witches body like tattoos. Had she not seen for herself she would not have ever believed it.

My daddy, uncle Charlie and granny lived in a house where every time gma wiuld mop the kitchen the water would turn blood red. Come to find out the previous tenant had a poker game which turned into a shootout. I can’t remember but i think all 3 or 4 men died in that kitchen. Needless to say they moved as soon as they could.
After reading a lot of comments I feel like a complete outsider being in the UK but I do love to hear the stories of times gone

You should feel right at home! Because most of these old mountain folk came from the UK and Germany. And they brought centuries of old world culture with them. A lot of the mountain folk in Boone and Asheville NC, are direct descendants of Scottish, Irish and German immigrants dating back to the late 17th century. Here in Boone North Carolina, we still have the Highland Games every year, where Scottish and Irish families who date back some 200 years compete in the old world tradition and events. And yes, if you know who to ask, you can still get a bit of homemade Scottish Whiskey 🥃 😂
Just came across your stories by accident, absolutely LOVED them. I'm from Scotland and we have an older culture here under the surface if scratch a bit. I don't sleep well but I made a pot of coffee and am listening as I type. It TRUELY is a great gift to be WILLING and ABLE to pass on these stories. Some of them have a Scottish hint to them. Part Scottish here. My dads dad, my pappaw traced his lineage back to Scotland then visited twice tracing it as far as he could. Unfortunately, my dad got his documents and I’ve never seen them. He did bring back a copy of our crest and plaid. I’ve ALWAYS loved plaid! Even as a kid. Now I know why. 😂 Our last name is Livingston. I’d love to know if it’s a name that’s thought of as honorable or if it has any negative ties to it.
My family came to the west in the early 1600s, and settled in the mountains. We're Scot, too.

Used to read the old foxfire books from this region. Covered and collected much folklore . Growing up many of my friends in the ‘50s were from the hills. Thank you for continuing the tradition. Much wisdom, knowledge and just plain good stories . You tell them well. Wonderful voice to listen to.

Interesting video. My grandma grew up in Kentucky during the Depression, and she used to tell us about a lady that lived in their little town, she was alone except her goats and she’d go out and take them for walks and they’d hear the bells coming a long way off and when they did they’d hide from her because they were scared because she was a witch.

My great grandmother was a traditional German witch, and taught me a lot. When I was younger. My mother was a spiritualist to. I had a lot of Native American shaman friends. There were things that I could not explain and I am very skeptical. I have to see it to believe it, and I have to test it out and make sure these things aren’t just a trick of the mind sleight-of-hand suggestion And a few times I had absolutely no explanation for some things the way they happened things that should not have been possible so while I hold onto my Christian beliefs today, not really a believer in bells and curses I do believe in the possibility I have an open mind, and hearing those stories is great thanks again.

@@JaredKingTV My imaginative soul is the kind that puts me into pictures I see, stories I read, and even the music I hear. So I can get lost in most anything when I do things, and hear things. But It is really hard to gather thoughts and pictures in my mind from words when I am not seeing them. Too often, we as people, can get lost in a shuffle of rushing and forget that words are descriptive, they are made to stir emotions with explanations, and imprint images in our minds like photo albums. So when someone can read to me and build the setting up in my mind the way I would if i were reading it myself, is a rarity. You have a great talent for it, keep it going! There are more minds out there than we can imagine that need a little bit of color in their vocab! Thanks again!
Thank you for those stories. My Daddies people were from the East Tennessee Mountains and my mom's Daddys people were from the Georgia and Alabama Mountians. I have heard so many old tales that I thought were pretty much gone now with the younger generation but I'm glad you are sharing yours and that does keep it alive. I was one who loved to sit and listen to old folks lives, true "Haint" tales, my families personal involvements in the history of this country. My great grandpa was named Jasper and my 1st cousin was named after him. They tended to pass names down and many were named from people in the Bible. Like the way you tell those stories. I know a few witch stories.. one my great grandpa was involved in. I guess you'd say he was one of those "Good Witch Men." And I have two more ancestors that were believed by others and the family to be witches. My mom's dad use to talk about the 7th son and their ability to "Blow Out Fire." He fell from a barn loft and his neighbors daughter got down and said that verse in the Bible and the blood stopped coming from his nose. I was shown a verse in there folks can say but they must say it all in one breath out to stop the pain of burns. I just subscribed. Would love to hear more. Thank you

We have lived in the foothills of South Carolina since before my birth some 57 years ago. Have to say, me and a few of my great grandparents or great great grandparents and so on have practiced for a long time, and Appalachian conjure is a special interest to me. I never get tired of hearing stories.
I've never heard of laying a broom across the doorway before. Here we set a broom beside the door. Bristles up means visitors aren't wanted. Basically. Lots around here will paint their door purple as well. Purple doors are usually a sign a witch lives there, or did at some point.

I heard from a witch the other day talking about besoms and also about making them. Fascinating info. She said you can hang your broom/besom across the top of your door on the outside for protection. You can also hang it on the inside too but I got the feeling it would work better on the outside. I must say no one has talked about salting…

I have a daughter who can talk the fire out. My daddy said it’s something that’s passed down/ inherited. He’d had some family that could do the same. I know she can do this because she’s done it for myself twice. Some may not believe but I do. Thank you for your stories.

I’ve lived in Harlan Ky for forty four years and my family has been in this Appalachian town from its begging. I was lucky enough to grow up with great grandparents on both sides of my family. One great great grandmother who was 100 percent Cherokee. I was taught the ways people done things around the late 1800 to early 1900’s. I’m thankful for all the knowledge they passed on. I’m also thankful that I’m still living in the same holler on the same land that my family passed down five generations that I can trace back. I plan to keep passing this land down. I was able to learn from my Cherokee great great grandmother how the native Americans lived here in these mountains just living off the animals and forage provided by the mountain. Anyways just thought I’d share a lil about my family and tell how thankful for meeting all my great great grandparents and my great grandparents, grandparents and parents, thankful for all I learned from all them. Never seen any witches but I wouldn’t doubt it. There’s still people here living in the mountains without electricity and rarely going into town. I have always spent more time in the mountains than I’ve spent anywhere else.

I had my great great grandma till I was 15. She went to sleep one night and didn’t wake up at 96. But on my great grandaddys side he said his grandma my 3 great grandma was full blooded Cherokee. I know her name but that’s all. I’ve always wanted to try to trace her lineage but I don’t have a clue how. Everyone here in MS claims to have Indian in their blood so I wish I could prove it.

I have walked threw a raging fire from a gas leak from a stove, I got some burns, but I had and have absolutely NO pain, I was even barefoot with only the bare minimum of clothing because the fire occurred in the early morning hours!
The firemen couldn't believe I walked threw the fire especially barefoot the only burns I got where from trying to use the fire extinguisher that didn't work and my body touched the stove because I had to get on
my tippy toes to shoot down on the stove eye!
But all and all, I didn't even feel the heat from the fire!
I figure from seeing the Indigenous people walk and kick and eat fire 🤔😉, I had NO problem!
I could do it too, with the right mind-set! So I did it!!!!! And the Bible said I could do it too!
So that's what I stood on, was my belief system!

This is awesome. Growing up I had a great aunt who everyone said was a witch. She was and now I know what and where she learned her practice. I miss and love her so much.
I come from a line of what people are calling granny witches and was often sent to gather plants by the river and in the woods. I was taught to separate the first pulled in a separate pouch from the bulk. Out back my grandma had a round metal disc set at the top of the path looking down the hill into the woods. We ground up the first gathered to burn on that metal plate in the moonlight. I knew how to gather, grind, and chant that far but she never taught me wjat she said or what she was doing specifically at the disc. Told me I was too impatient to learn that one, haha.
Lol Laaaaaw they did have a thing about patients back then didn't they! 😂. But, I'm so honored to learn what we did from them. Sadly the old ways and traditions are starting to be a thing if the past.

Hi there deary. I greatly appreciate your stories, and the style that you share them in. If you haven't been told the cold milk is actually called witches cream and it will keep for many days. My great grandmother was a traditional witch and would prepare fresh milk that never had to be refrigerated it would just stay cold once she cast her spell. It was never meant to do any harm, just help.

In my observation, since they would not contaminate the power given to them by the Creator, manipulating, controlling people for their personal benefits and gains, they were accused of witchcraft, witches. Yet, I see more clergy people misleading God’s people when teaching His word.

I absolutely love these stories. My family is from Lawrence county Kentucky and story telling is something we’ve always done. We go back to the 1800’s and our holler is still there to this very day. Reminds me of home. 💕

Of course, it's always sad to hear about people assuming that magical practitioners are evil and frightening, (and you're right that most simply want to live in peace,) but unfortunately that's the way far too many people thought back then. Oh, and I'm fairly certain you were right about the milk, by the way. I think it's far more probable that it had a cooling spell on it and that it was the metals in the penny that caused that reaction. (After all, magical energy is still energy and copper is conductive.) I think that the witch was simply trying to help.

I'm from Southern Oklahoma I come from a long line of healers. Around here they call us witches. And it all depends on whether you want to be good or whether you want to be bad. I believe in a lot of things. But I believe everybody has an ability a gift. Some are more sensitive than others. Sometimes it can be a curse and a gift. I really enjoyed your story. I just finished reading Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck which is about the "Oakies" that came to California during the Depression. I think the old woman at the end was trying to help. Greetings Jared, just found your channel. I'm from North Central Ohio region and grew up with a granny witch of sorts as well as a love of both folklore as well as historical/personal Family customs & traditions. My grandma was from Penn-Deutch descent and she had a very strong gift of what she called "second sight" aka Clairvoyance because she often saw deceased family members and pets in our family's homes. She also was oddly accurate when using a Ouija board and told me about her various interactions with haunted homes where she babysat as a teen.
"Potato-Onion Healing Spell"
I also interacted with a former circus stunt show performer she knew who had natural healing abilities and he used them to rid my left hand of ringworm using a potato albeit local lore states you can also use an onion in lieu of a potato. Old Bill cut the potato in half, rubbed one half of the potato on the red ring on my hand, mumbled something under his breath (my guess is a biblical verse, possibly Psalm 23) then he closed his eyes and prayed holding my hand for about a minute. Then he wrapped the half of the potato which he used to rub on my hand in a clean white handkerchief and told me to hold onto it for 30 days and to not get rid of it else the ringworm would grow bigger but once it had rotted away, then the ringworm would be completely healed. And I would need to take the other unwrapped potato half out into the woods and bury it to activate it. Ever hear of this in Appalachia?

I love to hear stories of the old Appalachian witches. I am from deep back in the mountains of Virginia. I am well aware of the witches of days gone by. In fact, both my maternal and paternal grandparents were well acquainted with them and there was one still living when I was a little girl. Both grandpas told me some of the wildest stories you’ve ever heard.
We were Christians so we steered clear of her. I know how some people mock the stories of these old people, but if they knew what I knew, they’d shut their mouths real quick. My great paternal grandmother was a full bloodied Cherokee and you really didn’t want to mess with the witches that came out of those families.
My mama had an old great aunt who was a healer. Not a witch, but a healer. I remember meeting her once as a child. She lived in a little shanty way back in the woods. She was a kind old lady. I was about 2 when I met her, but I clearly remember her. When she saw me, she immediately knelt down and took hold of me saying to my mom, “Now, this one is very special.” I’m not sure what she meant, but I do know that I’ve always had a deep love for my Lord for as long as I can remember and I’ve had dreams and visions and warnings all of my life that could only have been from God.
Anyway, Aunt Sara was her name and she was the mid wife for that area. People would pay her with whatever they had if they didn’t have a couple of dollars. Most would pay with a farm animal of some type. A chicken or small pig or they might pay in milk, eggs, or butter. My mother gave me a few very old antique dinner plates that she received from her Aunt Sara. She had received them as payment for delivering a baby of a wealthy old plantation owner and she had given them to mama as a wedding gift. They are among some of my most treasured treasures. They are beautifully handcrafted and are well over a hundred years old. Mama said Aunt Sara had healing powers, but hers were not from the dark side, but from God.
My paternal grandpa had gifts from God. He said God showed him things from dreams and I absolutely believe him as I fell severely ill as a child and no doctor could diagnose me. As I lay on my death bed, my grandpa came to my home and told them of the dream God had given him. God had showed him why I was sick and told him that if surgery wasn’t done I would die that very night. He wrapped me in a blanket and carried me to the car. He and mom took me to a surgeon’s office. The surgeon took me in immediately when he saw me. Within half an hour I was in surgery. I woke up 3 days later. My doctor told me that had he been 15 minutes later performing surgery, I would have died. Grandpa had been right. Furthermore, my grandpa had described my illness to the doctor. He told him that God showed him white matter oozing from my stomach. He described huge ulcers throughout my insides. The doctor said my appendix had been seeping and my entire abdomen was full of pus and that he cut ulcers the size of silver dollars from my intestines and kidneys. He said he didn’t know how I had lived 2 weeks in that condition, because I had sepsis and when sepsis spreads it’s certain death.
I won’t start telling stories, cause I’ll never get finished.

I just stumbled upon this video. I was born in east Kentucky, in the mountains. My great grandmother used to tell stories of mountain witches. She told me once there was a witch that a farmer owed for help she had provided. He did not repay her. My great grandmother told me that one evening, as the sun was setting, they saw the witch on the side of a hill, walking from cow to cow that the farmer owned. She would pluck a hair from a cow, blow it into the wind, and the cow would drop dead. The mountains there had all sorts of interesting people and stories. I had a great uncle that "bought" a wart off my finger when I was a child. I gave him a penny and he buried it in the yard. He said it would make the wart go away, and sure enough, it did. Pretty wild stuff happened back in the day in Appalachia. Those beautiful hills, mountains, and valleys hold a plethora of secrets and tales from old. It's great to hear some of them here in modern times.
