I used to part-time at a ski hill loading people onto a t-bar, and I still look back at that experience as one of the most joyful times of my life. Watching people endlessly wipe on that thing was just wonderful entertainment, and they PAID ME for it. They wouldn't let me eat popcorn on the job, so I had to eat bowlfuls of it after work to compensate.
Just got my first board and tried this for the first time yesterday 😂in my hard. So much harder than it looks! I’m a wakeboarder but wanted to embrace ontario winter this year with snowboarding. I’m going to practice these techniques. Thanks for sharing!
Fantastic video. Exactly instruction I have been seeking. The chair lift has been my enemy, frightening including a collision which twisted my knee. Why snowboard training at the slopes does not include single foot instruction is bizarre. I look forward practicing your instruction.
Let me know how the practice goes William! It's definitely one of the more intimidating parts of riding, even experienced riders can mess up with a packed chairlift. Stay calm, ride it out straight and you got this.
I still thinks is funny that front snowboard bindings don’t pivot a quarter turn to make life easy on everyone lol! You could push around like skateboard, get on and off the chairlift easy, not have your snowboard laying across everyone’s snow-ski’s while sitting on the chairlift, and go up the T-bars, easy.
I put my boot up against my binding, and put a small stomp pad just to the left of my boot. My boot can slide towards the edges of my board as needed so the stomp pad isnt getting in the way, but it still keeps my boot locked into a slot in the direction of the length of my board.
This was always a torture for me. On the seat lift I just carry my board on hand, and I don't use ski drag. I had training on the ski drag, but it was so tiresome that killed my power to ride.
I much prefer pushing with my non-dominant foot in front of the board than behind. I longboard so it feels way more comfortable for me to do it this way. I also think that there is more leverage this way as well due to how the hip moves.
Good vid. The more I teach the more I think the entire first hour should be spent one footing. Would have liked to see a demo of the sock push though. ;)
lol been boarding since i was a kid but took a very long hiatus with just couple runs in between. Everyone was one footing and pushing with the foot behind the board i was like wtf am i doing somethign wrong. but yeah i skated boarded so it makes perfect sense.
I push with my left foot and it seems comfortable even though i ride regular, whats wrong with doing so? 2nd time snowboarding i had a teacher tell me to have my dominant foot (right) strapped in front knowing im regualr.after a few rides it feels fine but im reading that its bad?
Getting off a lift on my home mountain involves riding on a slope that is falling away from me. My board wants to spin and I am quickly side slipping down, losing all my speed.
No, you'll want to get comfortable taking your back foot out of the binding and push with your right foot. In skateboarding we call this "mongo." It's not best practice on a skateboard, but on a snowboard it's pretty unworkable. If you practice pushing with your right foot at the bottom of the mountain it will quickly become more comfortable. Hope that helps!
@@ShredSchool1 thank you so much! I’ve been snowboarding for about 2 years definitely not a good habit! Thanks for responding quickly, I’ll definitely be practicing lol.can’t wait to get back on the slopes on Saturday! Thanks again! 🙏🏼
Mongo/Gumby pushing (heel side) (option 2) is heaps slower and more damaging to knees , they only teach to first day beginners in Oz but then people don’t get advanced lessons and think it’s normal so now more people do it 😂
I’ve been skating and snowboarding since 96-97. I still think it’s so strange when I see someone skating with their back foot pushing behind them. To each their own🤷🏻♂️
I'm quite comfortable riding in a straight line, however when i try to make turns i always end up overturning my board causing me to stop. Does anyone have tips for me?
Sounds like you’re weighting your back foot. Try putting all your weight on your front foot and just push in to the toe on the back foot without putting your body weight there when turning
This is definitely a tell tell sign cause my ass goes down black diamonds but will fall occasionally when pushing in the line. I blame my reverse entry binding tho... it always gets in the way when pushing
I always push in front, I can almost "run" and with the board pushing at an angle from my front foot and can pick up lots of speed quickly It feels so awkward for me to push in thee rear of the board, there's like no leverage and you're pushing your rear leg out laterally. Pushing in the rear just doesn't suit me

Personally I do find stomp pads to be very helpful. They're cheap and easy to stick to your board, so worth the try!

i always push with my foot in front of me, i can go pretty fast. i always skateboarded mongo, idk it feels normal to me.

Stomp pads are really helpful if you place them correctly on your board

I put mine close to the middle of my board. Just a touch behind the middle.
This was always a torture for me. On the seat lift I just carry my board on hand, and I don't use ski drag. I had training on the ski drag, but it was so tiresome that killed my power to ride.
Love the actionable advice! Keep it coming - thanks man!
will do! 🙏

Me too, I love it. My front angle is 18 degrees

Love that idea
Now I feel bad because I’ve been spoiled with a chair lift all my life at swain, I always wanted to try a tow lift
tow lift suck. They damaged your gloves. Appreciate your privilege. LOL

I usually place my rear foot on the binding, better friction, stronger grip.
Thanks for good advice!) I’ll try this next time on the mountain 😎
nice video!
Thanks!

Your front foot should be strapped in based on your riding stance, not your dominant foot
Yup, when getting off chairlift, when in doubt, go straight.
Getting off a lift on my home mountain involves riding on a slope that is falling away from me. My board wants to spin and I am quickly side slipping down, losing all my speed.
Your board doesn’t want to spin, your shoulders do and your board follows.
Lean on your front foot and keep your shoulders parallel to your snowboard
I do wish more places kept tow ropes tho
rope tows rule!
Love your channel great content thank you
Appreciate you!
My problem is one of the lifts has a slope and going down that is rough!
I have a issue. So I’m regular but I push with my left foot is that ok?

I'm Canadian and we call them Poma lifts. I've never heard the term Button lift before.

Skateboarders have been pushing a lot longer than us and I v never seen one pushing heel side with crossed legs 😂
@@zigfinofficial2140skater and snowboarder of 35 years here. Fuck that stupid heel side nonsense
I'm Canadian, we call them poma lifts too. I've never heard the term button lift before.
I’ve been snowboarding for 20 years and T-bars still wreck me almost every time
Awesome

How do you do it? I’m new so taking in as much information as possible

We have a full breakdown of turning with one foot inside shred school
To hell with all button lifts. Terrified to ride them again

gotta watch out for those high backs!
Why in the world do people push behind front foot.
It's called skating
You clearly didn’t watch the whole video
Stop pushing in front of your board ppl!
Some of us have skated for years and it’s a lot more natural for us.
