Glad you were honest Rob. The thing with Led Zeppelin is, it gets better the more you listen to them. They are the greatest because of the fact they were able to go soft and hard and left and right and do it better than anyone. Keep listening to zeppelin and you won’t regret it, ever.

The ULTIMATE Zeppelin song to react to is Fool in the rain. The changes in tempo, vocals, and the DRUMS!!! ITS AN ABSOULTE MUST!!! You can thank me later.
You spelled “In My Time of Dying” wrong. Love “Fool In The Rain”, but it being a pretty straightforward samba, I don’t think it really showcases Led Zep’s amazing powerhouse flex or much innovation.. though it is a truly great song. It was indeed more radio friendly, but often the more rocking tunes don’t get that industry push for a pop hit.

One part of Zeppelins greatness is the huge variety of music they make, every time different and exploring so many different sounds. I personally feel joy with every song.
I just love to hear Amber say “y’all”. 😊 Y’all both have a gift for doing what you say-for making people smile with the sharing of your excellent musical finds!!
When I first really got into Led Zeppelin all my favorite songs were the hard songs. As I discovered more of their catalog I began to appreciate the talent and their ability to cross genres. Now some of my favorite songs are their softer tunes because you really get into the masterpiece that is this band. But don't get me wrong the hard Rock'in tunes are still amazing
Has anyone else been mystified by that bass line for 50 years? It lifts me up takes me away, and makes me wonder how such a beautiful simple melody can exist.
Two things that like about this reaction. Jays honest opinion about the song (because you two usually love every song) and that you didn’t pause the song 10 seconds before it ended like you usually do. You talked about the drums and Roberts vocals but you missed John Paul Jones’ bass carrying the song. That’s what truly makes this an awesome song.
Someone might have mentioned this already, but this song is about the story of the Hobbit/Lord Of The Rings, The girl he has to find is the 'Ring' and Gollum's name is even mentioned in the song.
One of the best albums ever recorded- it really needs to be heard start to finish. Everything on it is incredible, so many things that became staples in heavy rock.
Love this song. One of my favorite's along with The Immigrant song. This song soozes you into a trance it's so beautifully written until they really rev it up. Then you're awaken into a masterpiece to the end. Try listening to this again Jordan. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
This is a top 5 of Led Zeppelin and all songs for me. It’s so different from any other song. You have to listen to it half a dozen times to truly appreciate it.
There's some songs that aren't for everybody, but Ramble On falls into the category of perfect songs. It's like Michaelangelo is painting your living room for free, and you want fire him.
I still remember in 1970 listening to this and Robert sings "In the darkest depths of Mordor" and the 8-track would click to the next channel. Still hear that.
The thing about Led Zeppelin is; they ain't one THING. There's way too much there to ever " fit " in any musical box. The band that more than others, spans the spectrum of " what is Rock. "
I’ve listened to this song since it first came out (I’m 66 now), and I still cannot believe the brilliance of John-Paul Jones on bass. While LZ has 3 stars (Plant/Page/Bonham), Jones pulls the whole song together. Amazing. Simply Amazing.
I love the Lord of the Rings references in this, and other songs. Peter Jackson should have invited them to the premiere of Fellowship of the Ring not to perform, but to enjoy the show.
Ramble On was my theme song in Graduate School when I left my wife. It describes what I was feeling and is so mournful and so Zeppplin. Note: The pedal Steel passage is gorgeous, yet Page never played it again. He felt he couldn't play it well!!??? Unbelievable. and shame in my book. .
Led Zepplin always great. Need to check out live performance at 1973 Madison Square Garden Stairway to Heaven and some duets with Allison Krauss with whom he’s made 2 albums
I always say, you can NEVER go wrong when rocking to Zeppelin. They are the epitome of rock. Love the first verse : Leaves are falling all around It's time I was on my way Thanks to you I'm much obliged For such a pleasant stay But now it's time for me to go The autumn moon lights my way For now I smell the rain And with it pain And it's headed my way
Oh Jay! Listen to it again a few times and listen to each musician. You will appreciate it more each time. But, we all have different favorites! Keep on rockin!
Robert Plant and Alison Krauss have made many records together. Just recently heard them doing a 'Tiny Desk (Home) concert' from NPR. Absolutely some of the best music I've ever heard. You guys would love it!
That’s interesting. Zeppelin is my favorite band and this is one of their bests. The story is about a guy from Middle Earth from the Lord of the Rings books. More suggestions (and if you already did some of these I apologize for missing or not remembering them) “Achilles Last Stand.” It’s both hard and beautiful. Every thing is A-game in this song, everything from John Bonham, who seriously plays circles around Jimmy Page in this-I am exxadurating (how the heck is that spelled?!) of course, that’s how the song was meant to be, it’s just that it really showcases John’s skills as a drummer. I mean there was Keith Moon, him and like two other guys on Earth that could do that stuff back then. Also, you should check out “Heartbreaker,” oh and Amber might enjoy “Moby Dick,” because it’s an instrumental and John really shines in that one too. “What is and What Should Never Be” is just a bleeping awesome song that rings true to the Zeppelin sound. I know you probably think “Stairway to Heaven” was their prettiest ballad and it might be, but if you haven’t, check out “Thank You.” It’s a real treasure and I believe it’s John Paul Jones that plays the harpsichord in that one. Could be wrong though. “The Lemon Song” and “Custard Pie” are brilliant dirty blues hard rockin’ songs that just taste so true and authentic to Zeppelin…I think you’ll like them. They are unrestrained and horny! Lol. For something a little different you can check out “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” or “The Battle of Evermore.” “No Quarter” is a little different too, but very powerful. “The Crunge” is another one I get a kick out of. Other good ones are “Trampled Underfoot,” “Ten Years Gone,” “Down by the Seaside,” “The Wonton Song,” “Sick Again,” “Celebration Day,” “The Rain Song,” “Misty Mountain Hop,” “In the Evening,” “Fool in the Rain” and “Hot Dog.”
Listening to individual songs from LZ2 will leave you disjointed with the experience. The Album is meant to be heard from beginning to end, it really matters what came before, and what comes after. Like many Masterpiece Compilations from that time, it's a complete experience. When the Musicians are giving you 9 Masterpieces, you listen in order. This isn't some top 40 Pop Band, or One Hit Wonder, with 1 or 2 songs that are catchy, this is LED ZEPPELIN, each song is there by design, in order, meant to capture your entire attention. Aside from headphones, if you listen to this on a Vintage Yamaha system, or others from the time, with 4 high quality speakers turned up to 8, "the neighbors won't mind" or who cares, you will find this is an experience like you have not experienced before. in 1974 when I was 12 I was blessed having an older brother with such a high end system, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!! Disclaimer: Of course if you play music loud, in a populated area, you might end up going to jail, or have your house raided, or both, so proceed with caution. Times have changed!
I agree with the speaker analogy. Got a couple 12 inch mid 70's JBL-L100's myself. Headphones are nice sometimes, but it's definitely not the same experience as blasting it through some big ass, quality speakers. 👍😁
@@CondescendingOaf Absolutely, the Music has to have space for the bass. I don't want a little baby hammer, I want a 30 pound sledgehammer. This album was designed for just that.
Please react to Led Zeppelin's live 1973 performance of "Stairway to Heaven" at Madison Square Garden. It's the best and Jimmy Page's solo is so amazing. Even though it starts out slow, it speeds up and I think Jay will love Jimmy's amazing guitar solo. He plays a double neck guitar!
the song is about the lord of the rings sung from the perspective of frodo - the girl who is the queen of his dreams is metaphor for the ring - gollum is mentioned as the one whole stole the ring
@@leefriedman9882 I was out of the country then, lot's of catching up still to do 🤣 For more harmonica, give "Bring it on home", very bluesy, but still rocks.
The best thing about Zepplin is that they are not a one dimensional band. They can be mellow and hard in the same song. They add elements of Indian, American folk and rockabilly at times. It’s a deep rabbit hole, you just scratched the surface.
I have always loved this song! I've been a Zep fan since 1970 something. I think Rick Beato broke this one down in a TH-cam video, check it out. You will appreciate it more. Also, listen to it in the Autumn, when leaves are falling all around.
Please react to more Jim Croce “Operator (that’s not the way it feels)” more John Denver “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, more America “Ventura Highway” and more Simon and Garfunkel “America”
Back in the day, you could catch that panning listening on speakers. And back in the day, speaker technology was nowhere near where is is today. Of course, listening on even half-way adequate headphones gets you to where you can hear the little nuances like Bonham's off-beat beats and Page's exquisite guitar work hidden behind the out-front shredding track... Love the way it starts out smooth, light and silky, then BAM! What the...? Oh, that's right, it IS Led Zeppelin. I could see Amber getting right into the deeper places in the groove - know what you are feeling, girl. This is one of my favourites.
@@hawkeyegeorge I think they only reacted to the cover performance by Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin but not to LZ's. They should react to their 1973 live performance of "Stairway to Heaven" at Madison Square Garden - that one is so great!

Rob Squad Reactions, Led Zeppelin, reminds me when I had this babysitting job and was left with this woman's children for 3 days my mother thought I runaway from home but I could not leave these small children and I listen to Led Zepplin marathoning music all 3 days I think I heard every song they recorded it was summer in the late 1970's Come to find out the woman who had hire me to babysit went to Las Vegas got drunk forgot what time it was I really thought something awful happened to her, I was only 17 years of age when this happen but I was very caution about babysitting after that. Thanks for the recording I believe it rough to pick a favorite Led Zepplin song they are all so great.
Robert Plant purity of voice dig his solo work on the song "The Sea of Love" finest vocals some would argue ever. Try that. The video is funny as well.
This is one of Zeppelin's master peaces. Every element the bass, drums, guitar and then the golden voice. Hey J man its kool can't dig them all. This is one that if you listen to it enough it will be end up being one you will wanta hear over & over.
Remember, it is 1969 when this debuts. The bass line is incredible and the crunch that comes in after each verse helped define the hard rock genre and is something that best sounds loud. The song is amazing, on one of the greatest albums ever made, and demonstrates why Led Zeppelin became the biggest band in the world. Listen to it again a few more times.
BOO!!!! "Ramble On" is one of my all time FAVORITES!!! From the acoustic guitar, the amazing bass line (JPJ!!!) running throughout, Bonham's tasty and tastefully done drums and of course...Robert Plant's amazing vocals!!! Come on the high notes during the line "Gollum and the EEEEVILLL One crept up and slipped away with her..." Effin' Brilliant! Getting to see it performed live will always be one of the most amazing things I've ever experienced!
I'm guessing neither one of you have watched or read The Lord Of The Rings? If you haven't, you could react to the movies and you would understand this song better in the process.
The Zep was like no other band. They had so many different styles and that is what made them so special. Their versatility. As far as Ramble On goes, you can just talk about John Paul Jones' incredible bass playing for hours. That is backed up by this fantastic beat by Bonham that just works perfectly. You have to let go when listening to Zep. Just put your headphones on and let them take you on their journey. Hopefully, it will make more sense to you. The beauty of their "acoustic songs" is that once they connect with you...they hit just as hard as their rock material.
That’s one of their best songs. You gotta listen more than once. The anticipation of the ups and downs is what makes zeppelin great. They “edge” you in a lot of their songs.
What I love about Led Zeppelin is that they were true artists without compromise, which is why they’re revered as they are today… so I’m sure they would respect you not feeling that song but that dislike would change nothing about what they did. To tell a quick story, Ramble On is one of the deeper cuts from their second album. Led Zeppelin II really cemented their place as a top act on the rock scene, including mega-mega-hits like Whole Lotta Love and Heartbreaker. Of course, the record label saw that and told Zeppelin that their next album should contain nothing but songs like those two hits… best for the profit margin, right? Zep said, “Sure…”, went back into the studio and produced Led Zeppelin III with a couple of legit bangers and a lot of really big departures from stuff like Heartbreaker too. Seething ballads like Since I’ve Been Loving You, way out there tracks like Gallows Pole and deep cut personal faves for me like That’s the Way. And guess what? It did fantastically well too, showing that the fans wanted what Zep wanted to make… thus paving the way for them to create Led Zeppelin IV, one of the greatest albums of all time. They stayed true to their vision, and were rewarded for it… and that’s why they’ll always be one of my Holy Trinity of Rock (along with Yes and Rush). ☺️
This song is a masterpiece. The brilliant vocal, all those fantastic layered guitar parts, the super cool bass lines, and the pulsating groove throughout. Easily one of their best songs and I hope Jay comes to appreciate it more in the future.

You guys need to do more Zeppelin. Believe me, I've been listening for over fifty years, and I discover something new each time.
Totally driven by John Paul Jones’ amazing bass line. This is by far my favorite LZ song.
One of my favorite Zep songs. It's a very good example of being able to hear the genius of all 4 band members very clearly.
The bass in this song though!! OMG! Great job Johnny!
I've heard it said JPJ gets overlooked, but when I listen to his Bass on this song, everything else gets overlooked.
“Over The Hills And Far Away” will give you the mellow and the HELLO!!!
46 years old and literally my favorite zeppelin song.
It's on Zep 2 it's from 69 I think, 70 latest. Which is 53-54 yrs...
This one is at the top of the list for millions of Zeppelin fans
Love this band!! My favorite song by them!!🤘🔥
This is the song that made me fall in love with Zeppelin.
My teenage youth is flashing before my eyes. Classic Zep...untouchable.
John Paul Jones is one of the best bass players ever. This is one of his best lines. Unforgettable!
Definitely one of their all-time great songs. I've played it live and it feels so good, and that bass line is killer.
Best "Lord of the Rings" inspired song ever! "Gollum and the Evil one, crept up and slipped away with her"!
This is one of my favorite Led Zepplin songs.
Not much to say. Always been a Zep fan and loved this tune.
It will grow on you, JAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY, the more you hear it, the better it sounds.
Jay/Amber, you'll love their "Living Loving Maid" and "Rock and Roll" !!! Great bands evolve J!
@@KL-gn9kb thanks. they should be played together though :) Heartbreaker/Living Loving Maid
Jones def does NOT get enough credit IMHO.
Love the first verse : Leaves are falling all around
It's time I was on my way
Thanks to you I'm much obliged
For such a pleasant stay
But now it's time for me to go
The autumn moon lights my way
For now I smell the rain
And with it pain
And it's headed my way
“The Rover” and “The Wonton song” are at the top on my Zep list!!! Amber will Love the drums on Wonton, and J will love both ✌️ 🔥
The Rover! 👍
The Wonton Song? Oh yeah, now I remember. That's the song they wrote about Chinese dumplings.
Love your honesty and I love the song. How cool is that?
Great review, no exaggeration! (Your version is good, tho'!)
This is one of my all time favorite songs period. Every band member in top form. Very complex in its deceptive simplicity.
Classic Zeppelin is always welcome to hear..and this one is my favorite. Let's rock folks!
Listening to individual songs from LZ2 will leave you disjointed with the experience. The Album is meant to be heard from beginning to end, it really matters what came before,
and what comes after.
Aside from headphones, if you listen to this on a Vintage Yamaha system, or others from the time, with 4 high quality speakers turned up to 8, "the neighbors won't mind" or who cares,
you will find this is an experience like you have not experienced before. in 1974 when I was 12 I was blessed having an older brother with such a high end system, WOW, WOW, WOW!!!!
@@michaelyork4554 Hammer of the Gods.
😄
@@CondescendingOaf I was gong to, but I decided to let you do it. 👍😎
I THINK YOU MEAN TURNED UP TO 11 A LA SPINAL TAP LOL!
The great songs from Led Zeppelin to react to are endless.
Y'all should do "When the Levee Breaks". Amber will love the drums and it should rock enough for Jay .
I think they already did. They loved it (although it’s probably my least favorite Zep song😬).
th-cam.com/video/RPMZ_tB2pXA/w-d-xo.html
@@leefriedman9882 I was out of the country then, lot's of catching up still to do 🤣
For more harmonica, give "Bring it on home", very bluesy, but still rocks.
@@LarryG335 Sonny Boy Williamson (II)'s original version, of "Bring it on Home", is a must hear!
Yes, Beato does a great job!
One of my favourite Zeppelin songs. The composition and dynamics are killer. I'm a big fan of their folkier moments
Please react to more Jim Croce “Operator (that’s not the way it feels)” more John Denver “Take Me Home, Country Roads”, more America “Ventura Highway” and more Simon and Garfunkel “America”
I agree with each selection!
I used to play this really loudly in my car while in HS. That ticking beat always made it seem like I was on the verge of blowing out the speakers.
Please do " In the Light" by Led Zeppelin.
I wore that album out!
I was just thinking the song. But Im down for the whole album.
STAIRWAY to HEAVEN should be your next song from them
I believe they've already done that one
@@hawkeyegeorge I think they only reacted to the cover performance by Heart's tribute to Led Zeppelin but not to LZ's. They should react to their 1973 live performance of "Stairway to Heaven" at Madison Square Garden - that one is so great!
@@alamc200 now that you say that, I believe you're right. That was a great version though!!
@@hawkeyegeorge they did Heart’s version not Led Zeppelin’s version.
Great reaction. I think you'd both like the Rain Song...simply epic and the strings will make you weep
I like this song a lot but it has never been a favorite of mine. Led Zeppelin have so many great songs so I am with J on this one. Good song and I love the LOTR reference but not my favorite either. Peace!
💗🤍💙 You know this song is about the "Lord of the Rings"
Remember, it is 1969 when this debuts. The bass line is incredible and the crunch that comes in after each verse helped define the hard rock genre and is something that best sounds loud. The song is amazing, on one of the greatest albums ever made, and demonstrates why Led Zeppelin became the biggest band in the world. Listen to it again a few more times.
Did you catch the Lord of the Ring references?
It’s like from the Anglo Saxon period of Literature, specifically “Beowulf.”
