- Shaheem has been deaf since the age of 4. Inspired by his late father, Shaheem picked up dancing at the age of 11 and hasn't quit since. He's learned to feel the beat, rather than hear the music. Despite the skeptics and the doubters, who don't trust that Shaheem can dance without music, Shaheem keeps on with his passion. Shaheem is here to prove everyone wrong, "...because you can doubt me if you want, but I'm gonna show you what's up."
Shaheem's amazing story is part of our collaboration with The Happiness Stories and director Ron Parida, who presents portraits of individuals who have been dealt life's toughest challenges, but who choose to persevere and do inspiring things.

"I feel it, not hear it"
He is a dancer, a REAL dancer.
Exactly. Music isn't just about hearing. You feel it. When you feel that beat, deep in your soul, you move.
@@Johannesburg777 Also, dancing is not tied to music, it is something you feel (through proprioceptive and kinesthetic sensation). Dance and music can obviously go together but they also exist beyond each other and both explore more than just rhythm - which is itself a physical entity - energy moving in space! (I'm a dancer and embodied cognition researcher)
deaf at 4 and still speaking clearly, awesome.
bashir bappah ya I was confused about that too
I'd guess it's because he became deaf at 4, by which point most people who aren't deaf can already speak clearly which then means that his memory of how a lot of words are pronounced has served him well.
bashir bappah speaking clearly? To me it actually really sounded like a deaf man. He doesn't spell the S right, the T, the D..
Syra Madeily well, he is speaking clearly for a deaf person
Actually, there are many deaf people that can be taught to speak. Even Hellen Keller, who was blind as well, was able to be taught to speak fairly well and give a speech.
I am sooo happy you are representing for Deaf people and showing your talent . I am hard of hearing and remember my teacher telling me not to come back to school if i did not wear my hearing aides . I did not like them because everything was too loud . My teacher did not understand at all! God bless you and continue to shine !
this is why you should never give up. he is strong and he believed he could do it so he did. i hope all your dreams come true. have a nice day :).
hello, it's satan i lile how your name is satan amd you just gave a positve comment 😂
I'm very impressed on how well he can talk.
Gerdronex cause he already learned to talk before became deaf, kids by 4 already got the talking learned.
Nienna V. still it very difficult to speak so good as he does just because he used to speak doesnt meen it was easy for him to speak after becoming deaf
Gerdronex I was thinking that as well.
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
I am not deaf or anything like that, but this was so inspirational. "If you stop, how are you going to grow?" Wow! I honestly did not know that deaf people could feel the beat or dance.
This is amazing. I have no idea why I forget that deaf people can literally feel the beat. My mind makes it seem like they're just unable. I'm so happy he's doing what he loves!
You are so graceful and natural in your dance. I never think deaf as I watch. I just think beauty. You have a gift from God has it for him. God bless you!
I am so happy for this young man, that he has found his passion and is living it to the best of his ability. How many of us can say the same?
Thank you for promoting accessibility by adding subtitles. It makes a world of difference to people who are hearing-impaired, and to other people that require subtitles.
This was beautiful!!! He’s amazing!!!
I’m glad you show the world that deaf and hard of hearing can do it you prove them wrong. Can do it
I love this video! My 3 year old nephew was born profoundly hard of hearing and my hearing family has embraced the deaf culture and are learning sign language. He gets speech therapy and asl classes and interacts with other deaf and HH kids and adults. It's I inspiring to see how hard this man works to fulfill his passion and do what he loves.
I'm deaf. I can speak. I can feel/hear the music.
Zoie me too lol
My wife is deaf from birth. She speaks clearly and most don’t realize she’s deaf.
Thank you Shaheem. You're amazing ☺
Couldn't agree more!
The power of perseverance is strong in this young man. Beautiful video. Mahalo for sharing! Wish I could give it a thumbs up a million times. 👍😊
Why hasn't TH-cam made this "million thumbs up" a feature yet???
Thanks so much for watching ;)
That just shows how you should never doubt yourself and let people's talk let you down and that no matter what you can do it no matter the condition you are in if you believe that you can do it you will definitely do it
He is amazing!! I learned about his story when his little brother was on So You Think You Can Dance Kids.
OMG this is so unbellevable this guy has actually showed me I can dance big up #Blessed
He is awesome! Really motivating man.
He is amazing! And we should all learn from him how to (never give up on us cause there is a star sleeping in each one of us)
I feel they should put Beethoven in this he MADE music while he was deaf. Big respect for him dancing deaf fricking amazing.
he speaks softly well OMG my heart! he's pretty handsome too 😍😭😭😏😏😍😇🙌😂😭
wow not a single dislike, I never though I would see that in TH-cam. This is awesome. great video.
Nienna V. Yeah I was wondering the same
Well there is one now ;-;
Kawaii Satan I swear there's heartless people out there hating for no good reason. who the hell and why can someone dislike this video....smh
Nienna V. They wanted to hit the thumbs up, hit the other by accident.

I love him💖💖💖he is so unique😍😍
I think I'm in love with this man
Super crazy cool!! I loved his moves, so enjoyable to watch. Good for you!! Keep doing what you're doing!! I wish I could see it in person😀
never give up, you always can do what you want
I was waiting to see him 💃 to the beat
OMG It's Shaheem!! I follow him on insta...my heart ❤️❤️❤️
How come his full name isn't in the description...much less the TITLE!!?? He deserves recognition beyond a "happiness story". He's got a youtube channel, I don't see you linking that up. Let's watch, be happy and SUPPORT! Watching and liking this video is only supporting this channel, which is great for exposure but come on, lets give him some credit too
He is really attractive
I believe in him.....yoooo that should say alot just by how his speech is hes been deaf since for and he speaks very clear not many deaf people do it's hard since you cant hear but he made it possible like he's say they can do it too it's all about equality no matter what situation
He should be on Ellen show or any tv talk show i think he's that good! Awesome
Nothing but big love for u my guy 💙 u r the best and yo lil brother definitely is inspired by you he has your whole swag
Sooooo handsome and talented 😍
why wouldn't someone not be able to dance with out hearing the music? if you ever played and instrument or stood next to a loud object you can feel the music, and honestly that in some ways makes your dancing better, I think that it is awesome that he dances even though he is deaf and people shouldn't assume that he can do less because he is deaf
This is seriously awesome.
This is awesome, Love it 😊
this warmed my heart
wow so inspirational
What a character 😊
Great guy.❤️Inspiring
Much love Shaheem!
This video inspired me a lot. ❤️❤️
You got talent your amazing
So inspirational wow!

Megs Hemliga yess!!
lov u shaheem
awesom guy❤❤❤
Amazing 😚❤💪
0 dislike? Wow that's amazing!
I thought everyone could feel the music. I'm surprised to see that so many are surprised. Some people learn to speak by feeling the vibration of voices.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO.
What is the music during the whole video??? It's as awesome as this guy!
I really hope that he wasn't forced to speak in this video. It sounds like he's been forced to speak otherwise though. Which is a sad reality for many deaf folks.
So commenting that "he speaks really well" its a back handed compliment because people are expecting him to meet them where they're at instead of meeting him where he's at.
Dancing and sign language intersect if you think about it :)
Maryam ya singing is the music of voice and dancing is the singing of sign
How powerful...
Fine... He is gorgeous. That is all🙃
Yesssss Feel it, not hear it. Thank you
i got a laugh when he said deaf people are no different....except they cant hear lol (yes i know he meant they can dance just as good)
Amazing
Shaheem you're cool
c,est incroyable je te comprend moi meme je fait de la faible paralésie cérébrale depuis ma naissance j,ai quand meme danser et enseigné la danse est ma clé de continué a vivre,
3 People have ultra hearing abilities
Who watching in 2019? Btw you are so talented 🔥
Your soooo damn amazingly phenomenal 🙌🏽❤️💯💯💯💯💯💯
You inspire me shaheem
Wellll ihve been inspired
I think its unique
Really interesting!
I'd like to see a greater detailed explanation of how the deaf dancer hears music.
that was inspiring
SHAHEEM ❤❤🎉🎉
Moral of the story...
Wanna know how to dance, FEEL THE MUSIC!
He's so cute tho
in plain sense yes we are all equal... but there are aspects to people that we are not all equal... and my personal belief towards deaf people dancing because they can't hear with their ears being equal to people who dance because they can hear with their ears... not equal. persoanlly I believe they deaf people would have the advantage and those who can hear with their ears are at a disadvantage.
because..... most people take things for granted and in a sense, concerning hearing, people who can hear with their hears are creatures ore deaf than those who cant hear with their ears... think about it.
this inspires me to be more in tune with each of my senses and not take any for granted. to feel sound not just with the ability to hear with my ears. concerning dancing, I feel music is more than the sound we hear, it is what we can feel. they say let the music move you...
holy shit he talks so well damn
What's the name of the song in the video?
can deaf people feel music by vibration?
AnonymousOnion I saw a documentary about a boy who felt the vibration so I guess is possible
AnonymousOnion yes, a lot of deaf people like to turn music up really loud so they can feel the vibrations
AnonymousOnion yep! (I'm deaf)
This video literally answered that...
The video answered that.
Is he holding a speaker? or is that a technical advancement for the deaf and hearing music?
What's the name of the song???
Whats the name of the song ?
did he feel the acute pain of tattoos with even more pain and vibrations?
I want to dance with him.
He is finnnnnnne
why we got subtitles, you can understand him clearly.
gangatalishis so other deaf people can understand him
gangatalishis also, some people who don't have english as their mother tongue might not understand him as clearly since he does mumble a bit.
ROFL
gangstalishis so other people dealing with hearing loss can read what he's saying
plus as a person who's deaf that's speaking, simple words and specific silent letters like 's' or 'g' aren't pronounced so it sounds muted to us.
🙏❤
I’m partially deaf and people treat me like I’m four years old and I love to dance and then they keep on asking do u want me to turn the music up and it just frustrates me because I’m no different to them and there no different to me
Damn son
1:40 dzab
if you ar a dancer like him ar like me you feel the music and not hear it.. if you ar deaf you also can dance or do other things, (im not deaf but i am only a dancer)
Noise is vibration pple do feel vibration they just dont view it THAT way
myamrnd your profile pic😂❤
hey pham .. wow we're literally fuckin everywhere
myamrnd 😂😂
Not my phone's mates
And not a single example of him doing it (with the actual music he dances to)
first huh
