I don’t understand how anyone could ever abandon an animal when they move. That happened a couple years ago at my apartment complex. I took her in and had her fixed. She is the sweetest cat ever.

I don't understand why people abandon an animal who has been part of their family; thanks to you and that other person Rocky now has a chance of a new life.
Some people think of pets in the same way they think of their tv sets or other possessions: just an object that amuses them. When that object is no longer practical, they just toss it out. It infuriates me that those people won't acknowledge that their pet is a living being with feelings/fears just like any other sentient being.
@@BassByTheBayyes exactly that,they lack depth and empathy,and TBF I have observed a lot of people like that,and I don't care for them,whereas the many good people that are a rescue team I cherish.
I agree it's so cruel to get rid of an animal when you moving to another house my dogs and cats are my children they give me more love and affection than some human beings and they have a lot of feelings too people don't realise that they definitely are not an object you can throw away 😢
I adopted an abandoned cat who was left at a neighboring apartment. Max was the most lovely cat you could have found. He died from health problems picked up on the street, but he had three good years with me.

There are not enough good homes for all the cats, and there are not enough shelters, either, to take a cat(s) to when people can not afford to keep them, or don’t want them anymore. As sad as it is that his family left him behind, at least they did not dump him a long ways away from his home turf. It is worth noting that even if a person had taken him to a vet to be euthanized (because that’s what that person could afford), that would have been o’kay. I hope all you who are shaking your finger at the people who abandoned this cat are giving generously to support your local shelters, and/or are fostering. Just remember, there are not enough homes for all these wonderful cats, so please SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!

My cat was also a rescue who had been left behind when someone moved. I could not have custom-ordered a more perfect cat. ❤ I just don't understand why people would leave domestic animals behind to fend for themselves when it's so easy to take them to a shelter. 💔
Based on personal experience, it's not always easy to rescue an animal in need. Reasons most otherwise caring people don't rescue cats like Rocky and other animals include one or more of the following: 1) They don't have a place where they could keep the animal even temporarily, 2) they are busy with other things like a job or their kids or their own animals, 3) they assume it's someone else's animal, 4) they don't have a pet carrier and are afraid to pick up a strange animal lest they get bitten or scratched, 5) they already have animals at their home that they fear will be hostile to a rescued animal or that could pick up a disease from the animal, or, maybe the biggest reason is 6) they just don't know anyone they could turn to who could really help -- most shelters are full of animals all year round and many refuse to take any more. My neighbors and i occasionally find and take in cats or dogs, and more rarely injured wildlife, especially birds. It's always complicated even for us who have experience doing this and a place to care for them. It's heartening to know so many do care, although in my opinion the practical logistics of rescue are always a problem. A few weeks ago my neighbor and i rescued three orphaned unweaned kittens, we had no milk replacement formula for them, she couldn't keep them at her house, so i kept them warm and safe against my body all night until my neighbor took them to a cat sanctuary which could not take them because it was full, then she had to ask others before finding someone who could.

It’s so sad because there’s many animals that shelters won’t take because they’re at capacity… unless the cat in need is in an emergency situation as in life and death. I understand but then this is also how some of the cats become homeless and risks getting into accidents.
I'm currently caring for a beautiful, older male cat that was left behind by a family that lived around the corner and moved away. I guess since they turned the home into an airbnb, they figured people would care for him and feed him. When I first saw him, he was skin and bones and had open wounds on his neck where he had been attacked. He was very skiddish, but we managed to coax him into letting us feed him. Then we were able to clean him up and and comb him for fleas. 2 months later, he's gorgeous and healthy and flea free. He looks like a puma!

@@walkertongdee You don't just leave an animal behind. They could have taken their pets to the animal control center and relinquished them. That's what responsible people do but you just don't drive away leaving pets to fend for themselves. People like them should be barred from ever owning another pet.

It's such a frustrating shame how some people just outright abandon their pets for no good reason, but it's uplifting to hear people like you still look after them so they'll get a better home where they're loved and appreciated.

Or did you forget that article about peta trying to swipe a 'lost' puppy while blaming the homeless guy for being unable to provide shelter? Not only was there dozens of witnesses, but it was in broad daylight.

My daughter has four cats specifically because of people moving out of her neighborhood, and leaving their cats. They are very well taken care of, three of the four being indoor/outdoor by their choice. She also has four indoor cats and three large dogs. She grew up in a household that my neighbor referred to as "petting zoo".
If you absolutely cannot take an animal with you, please do your best to find it another forever home or bring it to a no-kill shelter. To leave an animal like that is the worst thing. They are confused and emotionally hurt by that kind of betrayal. Rocky was lucky that someone actually noticed his plight and _did_ something to help him. He looks like a little puma. 😍

There was a cat in my neighbourhood that was in just terrible shape. I managed to catch him and took him to Animal Services. I assumed he must be a stray. Nope. He belonged to someone nearby who just didn't bother to take care of him at all. He was left to wander outside, he had never ever been to a vet, and generations of ear mites had basically eaten a hole in his head. They had to put him to sleep he was so sick. I hate how some people treat cats like ornaments -- get one because they're pretty but don't put in any work at all to keep them well. Just because you don't have to walk them twice a day like a dog doesn't mean they don't need care. I have no idea how you look at your cat who is *weeping pus from his eyes* and don't realize something is wrong...

In my experience, when you get right down to it, taking care of a cat isn't that much work. Those with long fur need daily brushing and such, but other than that? All but one of mine have been DSH, so all that was involved was feeding, providing vet care when necessary, scooping the box daily, and offering them unconditional love 24/7. That's all I've ever had to do.

There was a cat hiding under a car. My neighbor and me had been feeding a feral colony, so she tried to join them but she was chased up a tree. My neighbor got her and handed her to me, we realized she was not a stray, but a cat that had been abandoned. I brought her to the Vet. She had a microchip and I called the company and they tried to contact the owner. Phone, and e-mail were disconnected. She was dumped. She was only 15 months old. Abandoning a pet is an unbelievable act of cruelty. I reported the abandonment to the shelter from which she was adopted and the owner was put on a "NO ADOPT' LIST". Anyway, that was about 13 1/2 years ago and she is still with me and she is a funny, mischievous, cuddly, loving sweet girl and I love her to pieces.

@@InfiniteTriztan1111 Thank you. So many cats need homes. I wish the animal rescue groups would do more in educating people about the responsibility of owning a dog or cat and the cruelty of dumping them on the street. Instead of ads just asking for donations, the ads should also educate.
@@T-hs2qm There are so many cats that are abandoned. It has become a problem in the cities. Years ago Minneapolis created the TNR program because there were one million stray cats and they were decimating the bird population. NYC also has about one million stray cats. This is a problem never seen before. Educating the public about the cruelty of dumping their cats should be a priority. ASPCA also could run ads regarding the horror these cats feel being abandoned to the streets and the brutal life that street life brings.
@dina113east I'm in the UK & those figures you mentioned of a million homeless cats in some cities is startling & heartbreaking. We have RSPCA adverts over here showing animals in distress being rescued but their ads are to raise funds for their charity & there are so many smaller charities who are completely overwhelmed & struggling to raise funds to help mistreated & stray animals. You're so right though, we need regular hard-hitting primetime ads from our respective Governments which would hopefully make more people think about the treatment of pets & wildlife.❤

Rocky is an absolutely beautiful, special kitty! Love and blessings to him and his family. My Charlie came to us as a stray also positive for FIV. However, we kept him indoors and gave him good healthcare and nutrition, and the disease never had a single, negative impact on him. He loved a long, happy life. I’m so happy for this kitty Rocky! Prayers for a very long, happy life, too!

Some how the rescue kitties are the best !We had one adopt us about two years ago, all the houses on are street were sold for buildings to go up . I guess someone just left him and moved away. He has been a wonderful guy !
People can be the worst. I'll never understand how anyone can move and just abandon a pet like that. But at least there are wonderful people like this to make up for it.

@@walkertongdee oh give me a break. I will most definitely condemn anyone who abandons an animal. Regardless of reason. They could have taken it to a shelter. Hell, they could have even left it and reported it to animal control. At the very least give it a fighting chance. So no, I don't care one tiny little bit about their reason. There is literally (I mean literally) no excuse to just abandon a poor animal like that.
You are not being logical here, probably due to the fact that you have never faced a hardship, may your blessings continue. But if the cat went to animal control most likely displacing another cat who will be euthanized and so o and so on until his time would be up. As it is he has been rescued and has many people vying for the opportunity to adopt him. Imo it’s always better to leave the in hopes someone will help. Life over death every time
Some people die leaving a pet. I often think of the ancient Egyptians who buried their cats with the master when he died. Maybe the cat would not choose this option? Some people face unexpected hardship in life and there is no one who cares. Animals are far above humans in this regard so his odds were good from the get go. Not so much in an overcrowded shelter. I ask for blessings and relief for ones facing agonizing decisions in this veil of tears and that hearts will open and all suffering to cease

Yes that is an agonizing thought, but maybe the options were worse like an overcrowded shelter where another animal would be displaced and soon dispatched. People are suffering due to no fault if their own. All the anger against the ones who had no good choice is misplaced imo.

May you continue to enjoy such blessings. And while you do please spare a thought for those who have passed on leaving a beloved pet behind. Or the person due to losing a job and having their life upended that has no other option than to hope a kind person finds their pet or take it to a shelter where life is cheap and soon over. Iow try thinking a bit below surface level, I know it’s hard for the haves to regard the have-nots, but it would behoove you to try it sometime. Life takes many twists and turns and one may wake up out of their comfort zone one day.

My God he's so beautiful!
I lived in a college town. There were town homes for the graduate students. They would finish their degree, move on and leave their cats behind. It was a catholic university and the nuns would feed the abandoned cats. One day in the middle of winter a beautiful black cat showed up at my back door and wouldn't go away. I finally let her in and we became best friends from that day forward.

Don't leave your pets behind when you move, people, there are usually at least two places that will take them, the county animal shelter and the local Humane Society. (Although I don't think very many people watching these GeoBeats Animals videos would do that.)

It really saddens and upsets me when these abused or hurt animals finally form a bond of healing, love and hope with a caretaker and then they just let them go to another home. I can not understand that. 😢💔

Abusive people will get theirs someday from karma. I thank all who helped rescue this precious cat and now he will get is own permanant, loving and safe home.
I think you should make him your cat. He's been through enough change, and he finally found his person. Sometimes, the needs of the individual cat have to come before the guidelines of an institution. If you love him, he loves you, and you have the room in your heart and your home, I believe an exception should be made. ❤🐈🥰

Our rescue was a walking skeleton, full of cuts, mites and rotten teeth. Even so he was the most loving, smiley, grateful cat I've ever had. We still have him and he has blessed our home with so much entertainment and LOVE. I just wish we had found him earlier.
