My cat Julia has gone blind in her old age. I adopted her from the shelter in 2012, and since she was found as a pregnant stray, they didn't know how old she was, but they assumed she was 3 at the time, so I'm guessing she's around 14 this year.
She often calls out to find me, since she can't see, and doesn't hear very well. She makes these strange sounds that sometime sound like she's calling out, "Hello?". I come over to her, and hold my hand out, so she can sniff it, and know I'm near. She immediately headbutts my hand, and leads me over to what she wants, or lets me give her attention.
Since she knows her way around the house, she can find her food easily, and can make her way down stairs, and to her litter box when she needs it. I'm very impressed with her determination, and I'm proud she's remained the sweet and loving cat I adopted on July 9th, 2012.

Animals adapt pretty quickly to things. You would be surprised how quickly an adult animal adapts to sudden disability too. Such as losing a leg or hearing/sight. Most animals just get over things quickly and live in the moment unlike people. We dwell on the past and what was lost animals dont.

I have a blind kitty, she saved me.. I never realized how much i needed her more than she needed me. If you are looking for something amazing to witness in your short selfish life.. adopt a blind cat, and watch them blow your mind. Mine was born without developed eyes. So she doesn’t know she’s missing out on anything. In her mind. We are all blind..
but it’s the cat things she does that all cats do, from moving the water bowl with paw, to walking or chasing others around at full speed and never touching a thing..
But the coolest part is trust, never take advantage by feeding them something or scaring them to get thrills.. she trust us so much that if she is about to jump off something to high, she will stop if we say wait.. or look at us to get the ok to jump. She won’t move a muscle. She will sit until we say it’s ok.
I wish I could bottle up the feeling and sell it, I’m a 43 year old pro category race car manufacturer and driver. And still have a rough side.. but I leave all that at the door. Because she needs her daddy.. oh and she loves kitty push pops.. mommy doesn’t give them to her because they stink..
and she always comes back when everyone has left to sneak another.. warms my heart

The things we can learn from animals. No self pity, no depression over a major setback…. They adjust and carry on. Amazing. These two boys are SO fortunate to have that mama.

    • @barbarella.artist
      @barbarella.artist ปีที่แล้ว +36

      That’s not true tho…
Plenty of cats have depression, especially if they are bonded to a human and then get abandoned.
Sometimes they barely eat play or sleep for weeks on end because they are so sad they were abandoned by their chosen person
Sometimes they are scarred and traumatised from things that happen in their lives
Cats are super unique in their personalities.
These guys are just lucky cause they were found at such a young age by someone who clealry knows what she’s doing with cats
So raised them in a healthy, loving and secure environment so that they can build confidence and feel safe around people
A lot of kittens don’t get that opportunity, or get bounced around cause people treat cats like disposable pets.
MENTAL HEALTH IS REAL - even in cats.
Not all cats are the same, like how no human are the same. Some humans never recover from the trauma, same with some cats
Hence cats get the bad rep of being standofish - or ‘solo’ animals but then have behavioural problems.
Cause they are depressed and traumatised
I love this video but don’t spread misinformation please.
People and cats heal at their own rates 🎉🎉

I've had kittens with the same infection back then. We took the two to the vet, sadly one passed away because of a medical mistzke: The vet had given the smallest one too much anesthetic. The other one lived for quite some time, and one of his eyes was even able to be saved. His name was Pirate. I miss them both. I hope they're walking across the rainbow bridge and playing all day long.

It's so funny to hear how worried the narrator was about the kittens going up the cat tower. My wife had the same worry about our boy when he first came to our house as a small kitten with no eyes. He loved to climb. He also taught himself how to use the dog door. (The pugs all took some training.) He's 5 now and doing great. It's nice to see how well those cats are doing.

One of our cats recently had to have his eye removed recently - we think he got feline herpes while in the womb and it partially destroyed one eye and the scar tissue was making it very inflamed and uncomfortable. We tried treating it with medication but when that didn't work, we finally resorted to surgery. Since having it out he's become even brighter and more cheerful than he was before and he even seems to be able to see better without the bad eye causing issues. Plus he looks absolutely adorable.

I can't remember where I saw it, and I don't think I can find it again, but it was an image of a one-legged dog in a specialized wheelchair with the caption "Life goes on when someone loves you." Completely applies here, and I'm happy to see them live their little lives to the fullest.
