The second pass was awesome Gary, I really enjoyed the scratchy sound. Thank you for the kind comments my friend! I can't believe in Ontario they just take your license like that, it's crazy. 15:01 was me but I said "I was picking up a falling straight razor" 🤣 Have a good one my friend!
A great shave there Gary! Here's an odd tip for you. I see that you add an elastic band to the alum block to avoid the drop and shatter routine that I had mastered. Even dropped a bottle of Proraso pre-shave that took a chip out of the sink and a floor tile. I get those giant goofy looking bands that are on broccoli. They offer a serious grip and they work on all those glass bottles of aftershave, cologne, et al.
Great shave Gary and I'm glad that my donation helped you out. You picked a really good solid stone that will last for years and years. All you need now is the 5K and 8K and a finisher and you are good to go. I know that Anthony Esposito use to go directly to a Japanese natural finisher after using a Naniwa 5K Professional Chosera stone. Sorry to hear that you lost your driver's license years ago. A DUI in Canada is a felony and I've been told that it's next to impossible to get your license back from a DUI much less medical reasons. I had to leave many co drivers behind because they had gotten a DUI or had been convicted of a felony 20 years prior.
Hey Gary great shave, been watching and not commenting as much. Since you are thinking of getting into straight razors you should definitely get a shavette first and try that to see if you like straight razor shaving. Most of them are around 20 bucks or so, and they just use a half DE blade, it's the exact same kind of shave you'll get from a barber if you go and ask for a shave in today's day. If you enjoy it then you can look into making a bigger commitment to stones and a razor and such. Also you don't need a bunch of stones, you really only need 2, a high grit stone like a 5k (this stone is fine but will still cut quick enough to not waste time) and then a finisher (I recommend the 12k naniwa super stone as it gives a phenomenal result and is economical), but since you already got the 2k you could start there, then go to 5k, then to the 12k. Most straights these days may not come with an absolutely superb edge, but they do come with passable ones, they certainly aren't dull. So all you'd need to do is put your own 5k edge on and then you'd be fine moving right to a 12k or similar finisher. There is a cheaper line of stones that is perfect for straight razors, they are much cheaper than their "professional" counterparts because they are half the thickness, but they're the exact same stone. You want to get the "Naniwa Gouken Arata 5k" and the "Naniwa Gouken Kagayaki 12k." Those two stones should be all you need when your razor is honed up, whenever you feel it starting to get dull just give it a few passes on the 12k and strop it and you'll be back in the game. So these are just a few options to get you started and give you some direction. I use straights exclusively, and whenever I need to touch up my edge (so long as I already did a honing progression) I just give my razor 10-20 laps on the 12k and strop and it's back in tip top shape. I do recommend getting a little handheld microscope to easily check your edge and the progress your making (roughly $15 and will help you understand your progress and the results to what you're doing on the stones), the specific one that works amazingly well and gives you 2 high lvl magnification is called the "Carson MicroBrite Plus 60x-120x LED Lighted Pocket Microscope" All these products can be found on Amazon, it shouldn't cost you more than $100-$150 in stones, and your razor can be as little as 20 for a starter Gold Dollar Razor but I'd recommend at least 100 for a good quality basic DOVO. So all in all it really shouldn't cost more than 200, maybe 250. I'd say 100 for the stones (5k and 12k) and 100 for the razor, but being you already got the 2k it'll be about 250. Do not pay 800 in stones, and don't shell out 300+ for a razor unless you are sure you like shaving with straights, grab that shavette first. Sorry for the wall of text, just trying to help.
Great shave Garry, I can probably get you a license, there are a bunch bolted to the bumpers here at the Walmart. They’re literally everywhere, nobody will miss just one.
Good old shave, good old Gary! Halt die Ohren steif. Oh that's with the licence sounds not so nice, so one more reason not to live in Canada 😂😂😂 Have a great day 😊

Great shave, and that’s crazy how the gestapo took your liscence. Canada’s leadership is all about control.
