    One important thing you didn't talk about is having a specific field you're interested in. In my case, I am a geographer and I learned python in relation to spatial data analysis. It helped me keep focused and interested

      current stage: Isn't it risky? I wish I had started earlier.
      40s : Perfect time to get started.
      50s: Absolustely a life changing moment to get started.
      60s: Had if I started 30 years ago, my life would have been totally different today.

    ive been coding for the past 3 weeks now and one thing im struggling with is starting any activity with instructions.. basically what im saying is that i cant code what im instructed to code, my mind gets clustered everytime i have to start coding whenever im reading the instruction.. i feel like its the same thing everyday and i cant seem to get over that hurdle, its literally the only thing that on my way right now and i feel like im just stuck in one place then i start questioning if coding is really for me or not.. its shattering everyday i sit for hours looking up videos that can help me but find nothing helpful to my problem.. or maybe im just not learning python the correct way please help!

    • @LukeBarousse
      @LukeBarousse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I understand the struggle. Have you just trying coding for fun? Meaning have you just come up with some simple task on your own and then tried to complete that task. Sometimes (for me atleast) I get confused at understanding what a course wants me to code and I get discouraged. BUT when I'm working on my own portfolio items and have the freedom to explore I feel like I get a lot more out of it and am more productive. just a thought!

    • @TheFootballPlaya
      @TheFootballPlaya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think something that might help with this is breaking down each problem and apply the thought process of IPO.
      I - INPUT
      P - PROCESS
      O - OUTPUT
      Think about this program for example here
      def main():
      name = input("give me your name: ")
      name = name.upper()
      print("Your name is", name)
      main()
      The INPUT is name = input("give me your name: ")
      The PROCESS is name = name.upper()
      The OUTPUT is print("Your name is", name)
      This is a very simple example that uses one function. But it turns out, that almost any program can be represented in this way using the same simple process. You have an input first from somewhere, then some process/calculation on the input, which produces some output.
      So, then with each problem you try to solve, or program you try to write, break it down into these sections.
      Ex: Write a program that finds the maximum integer in a list of 10 and prints it
      We can break down this problem using IPO.
      1st we need to get the list from the user (I)
      2nd we need to find the maximum integer in that list (P)
      3rd we need to output the maximum integer (O)
      # 1st step: getting the input from the user into the list
      def get_list():
      user_list = [0]*10
      i = 0
      while i < 10:
      user_list[i] = int(input(f"Enter number {i+1} to put in list: "))
      i += 1
      return user_list
      # 2nd step: finding the max value in a list
      def find_max(listy):
      maxx = -1
      for v in listy:
      if v > maxx:
      maxx = v
      return maxx
      # 3rd step: displaying the max value
      def print_max(maxx):
      print("Max integer is:", maxx)
      def main():
      nums = get_list() # INPUT
      maxx = find_max(nums) # PROCESS
      print_max(maxx) # OUTPUT
      main()
      Another point to see here that can be confusing as well in the beginning is that main() is our "driver" function. So, this function is responsible for calling the other functions in sequence. And we can define the other functions in any order we want to really, what matters in terms of execution however is the order in which they appear inside of the main() function.
      So, for example, using the code above what would be the difference if we said this instead?
      def main():
      maxx = find_max(nums)
      print_max(maxx)
      nums = get_list()
      main()
      This would be a problem! Because the first line now is maxx = find_max(nums). But Python hasn't seen the definition for nums yet! So, this will cause an error!
      So, we can conclude that the order in which we call each function / put each statement inside our driver function matters in terms of which operations are executed at which time! But, the function definitions themselves, that we created above main() are essentially generalized. They do not impact any particular data on their own, we have to feed them objects or arguments in order to perform operations on them. They are simply abstract tools we have created to perform certain operations for us. And all of this is in the form of IPO.

    • @TheFootballPlaya
      @TheFootballPlaya 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LukeBarousse no problem. i had a similar issue when i started with python, where i didn't understand how the program 'fit' together. And at the time, I didn't understand return or parameters or arguments or the concept of functions/calling lol. So, I was always lost as to how each bit talked to each other. Add to that, I felt as though there was some kind of structure to the program, but I didn't know what that structure was really.
      until, I read a book and it mentioned IPO. And I continued with functions and saw that there was always some driver function, which called the other functions in that same order of IPO. And finally, I had that massive brain blast moment where everything clicked, mega ah ha! moment for me lol stepping stones.

      The courses i was thinking about taking are as follows.:
      1.Python for everybody specialization.
      02. Applied Data Science with python Specialization.
      03. Deep Learning specialization.
      04. Mathematics for machine learning specialization.
      05. Machine learning course.
      In between that i would take as many Projects as i can on topics i have learned of so that i would Sharpen my skills and test them.
      So what do you think about this approach?

    • @LukeBarousse
      @LukeBarousse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EpicGT This doesn't seem like a bad approach. I'd start with the Python for everybody to ensure you are interested in Python. From there maybe build a simple portfolio project to ensure you have the skills/foundactions and then move on to the next course that is aligned with your passion. I wouldn't necessarily lock yourself in to assuming you need to take all 5 of these. Employers want to see applied experience and you can do that with portfolio projects.
