    ► ABOUT THE VIDEO
    This is an in-depth, step-by-step installation how-to video for the Tutoro Automatic Motocycle Chain Oiler.
    The auto chain oiler is being installed on a 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan; however, during the process we'll be looking at all the components Tutoro provides and how they can be used to install the chain oiler on any other motorcycle.
    Unlike other brands of chain oilers such as Scottoiler, Motorbriiz, Osco and others, the Tutoro oiler:
    ▪ Is light
    ▪ Requires no electrical connection
    ▪ Requires no vacuum lines
    ▪ Does not operate off of unpredictable air/wind pressure
    The Tutor Auto operates off riding vibration, and a simple adjustment knob allows the rider to increase or decrease the flow of oil if needed. Vibration is a consistent and trustworthy source of energy to actuate the oiler valve system, thus the rider can have complete confidence that the device is working. Best of all, setup time and difficulty is greatly reduced.
    Watch and learn! And consider a Tutoro Auto Chain Oiler for yourself.

    Please clarify: Since the chain is a (newer) O-ring style which is packed w/ lubricant and sealed w/ O-rings on each link, why is it necessary to continuously dribble oil on the chain? Wouldn't this oil attract and hold dust and debris on the chain which serves to wear out the chain and sprockets faster than if they were protected w/ a dry paraffin coating?

  • @commonsense5105
    @commonsense5105 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video and good explanation of installation. A chain oiler is a good way to resolve the lubrication issues between the chain and sprocket minimizing the interface wear. It's possible to get the oiler dialed in to minimize oil spray on the rear wheel, drive sprocket, and swing arm assembly, but unfortunately whether you use an oiler or manually maintain/oil your chain, spray on other surrounding parts is an inherent byproduct of a chain drive.
    For those of you not wanting to deal with regular chain maintenance, a chain oiler is the only way to go. For those convinced this is the solution to make it happen, the Tuturo is the only way to go. Simple installation, simple operation, little to no maintenance, and highly effective. Have installed one of these on each of these bikes I own...... a KLR 650, KTM 1190 Adv, CB1100C and a CB500X and all have worked flawlessly, the oldest for 5 years. Last one I purchased was on Amazon for those might looking for a source in the US. Hats off to the gents who invented this across the pond! Well engineered, good quality product and that's from someone who's at one time was an auto mechanic and currently a mechanical engineer for almost 40 years.

    Hi mate looks a good system from #tutoro, one question does the helix and nozzle give good adjustment for when you adjust your chain as it wears ?

    • @nick1bb1
      @nick1bb1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good point. I think i can answer this. Yes, its easy to re-adjust the nozzle position however, the necessity for any chain adjustment is substantially reduced because the chain wears very much more slowly - many people state they get 30000 miles plus out of a chain. 1 recorded instance was 52000 miles!

      What happens to the nozzles if you push the bike backwards ?

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting question. If you had just dropped your bike into a pit of mud, covering the sprocket, and then rolled backwards, you may need to clean the nozzle out with a paper clip or pine needle.
      But in most riding conditions where dirt and debris is flying off the sprocket (if any at all), and considering the constant oil application helps keep the sprocket cleaner than usual, you'd have no issue to be concerned about.
      That's my take on it.

    Good stuff mate, love the intro very professional. I’ve heard of oilers (not the hockey team) but never seen them in action, pretty cool. How long typically would a full reservoir last and would it not over-oil the chain? ATB Jason 👍 #tutoro

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been waiting for someone to ask this exact question. 👍 Tutoro claims a well adjusted oiler will get you 1,000 to 1,500 miles. I did 100 miles the other day on a full reservoir and the level didn't drop too much. Looks like I'll get at least 1,000 miles. Since you have control of the flow rate using the adjustment knob there's no worry of over-oiling. Install, ride for 20 minutes, check the chain. If it is too wet, cut the flow back. If it doesn't seem wet enough, turn up the flow. The manual described the best situation, basically a wet chain but not dripping.

    Hi Justin, really great video! Very clear.
    But I wonder:
    Can you comment on how or if the chain tensioning task (which should be checked and if necessary adjusted every 1.000 km) is effecting the delivery of oil from the nozzle to the sprocket.
    Isn’t it so that every time you adjust the chain tension the whole rear wheel including the sprocket moves to the rear side of the bike. I wonder how you ensure that the nozzle still has contact with the sprocket if the sprocket moved 2-3 cm to the rear compared to the original position?

We were both comfortable and the ride was really pleasant. It was nice to discover the Himalayan could cruise ok on the highways, but the long dirt and gravel road really proved to me I made a good purchase. No, that's my mistake. I was responding to a lot of comments on a particular video and didn't realize you were commenting on the chain oiler video.
      I've also been very happy with the chain oiler. I used it during my trip to Prudhoe Bay Alaska and only topped it off one time during the trip. I had a good piece of mind knowing the chain was lubricated well for the entire ride. After many miles of muddy gravel I did clean off the oil nozzle one time to ensure it was flowing well, other than that you can set it and forget it. It's worth noting that the whole thing withstood 2000 miles of riding, and nearly half of that was on gravel or rough road. The oiler still works perfect after all of that.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well let's say you had a lubricated chain, like normal. It's probably pretty sticky and once it gets all dirty during off road use the dirt just sticks there. Whereas if you supply a continuous flow of clean oil, you are able to flush that grime off the chain rollers.

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can turn up the flow a little bit so that as you ride the dirt that gets cleaned off will fling off the chain. You may wind up with more mess in the chain guard, but that is better than wearing the chain out. I haven't tested this out, but Tutoro does describe this cleaning benefit in their manual.

    ..

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear ya. It's plenty good though. Regarding protecting it, for starters there's a breather hole at the edge of the cap. Wouldn't want to blast water in there. Also, because people don't always wash their bike with mild soaps and solvents, there is the small chance that the chemical used will turn that clear housing cloudy. Tutoro is is playing it safe here. I'm sure they could use a more durable material, but then the cost would go up. As for being like the Scottoiler, that's accurate in the sense that it oils the chain, but unlike the Scottoiler that runs on vacuum and will drip even when the bike is parked, the Tutoro only runs when road vibration is present. A nice touch! 👌🙂

    Thanks Justin-need to fit one to my Himalayan as Spain is very dusty and I'm forever wiping off the dust that turns to grinding paste, and then re-lubing.
    Seeing as it's going on the Himalayan, are you sure that there will be enough vibration to make it work? (For all those without Himalayans, they are incredibly smooth running).

    • @nick1bb1
      @nick1bb1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Colin, the Oiler doesnt work on vibration, its motion activated :-) please see www.tutorochainoiler.com/pages/how-does-the-tutoro-auto-work

    • @KARMAkazeMoto
      @KARMAkazeMoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In your situation you'll benefit from how the constant delivery of fresh oil cleans the chain as you go. It does more than just lubricate. You may want to turn up the flow a bit. And as Nick stated, the engine vibration does nothing. The motion on the road causes the flow which is the same on all bikes. If you have a hover bike from the future, only then would it not work. 😀
      I agree, the Himalayan is a smooth operator. 🙂👍

    • @colins6638
      @colins6638 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry Nick-I was trying to be funny about the Himalayans lack of vibes!
      I have had Scotoilers fitted to some of my previous bikes, but all the dismantling needed to tap into the inlet manifold was a real pain on FI bikes. This seems to be much better solution (at least for me) for keeping chains lined, as I'll often forget!
