Great to have you back, and props for the discussion on work versus lifestyle. I think it's often overlooked, or not talked about, and sometimes people put additional pressure with the mentality of "yes but this is a crazy opportunity!" In reality, if it's taking a toll on your personal life, it's not always worth it. Great message, and thanks for sharing!
Only he's not going to get hunted by agents if he spills them. He'll be hunted by a swarm of mercedes lawyers. Which sounds much more terrifying tbh xD
As a highschool student paying over 500 would be a very large commitment for me, if you could separate the course into different cheaper chapters, then I think it would be much easier to purchase what parts of the course I would want without paying the full price.
I strongly agree. Try to make it available to purchase specific chunks that the individual finds relevant. I think this will result in more people signing up for the courses as well.
Hey there i have bought a lot of these courses from TH-camrs or Influencers and it ends up being the same thing u can find on internet or school. Wont recommend u paying that much money to a youtuber. He got experience other than that science is still the same
So, after hearing about the massive amount of hard work, effort, education, and sacrifice he put in for the knowledge he’s offering for $500+ your first instinct is to ask him to make it cheaper? You’re asking him to help you for very little to circumvent all the steps he had to go through for that knowledge. Not trying to be critical, but you may want to figure out how to earn that money (even in high school) if you want it bad enough. With the amount of job vacancies and high wages hopefully you can find some opportunities.
how long until the NDA is gone/you can discuss what you were up too? Also great to have you back and the courses sounded interesting, but $1000 is a little steep, would you do a trailer or short test segment showing what you would be going over?
$1000 for the aero course is a little steep but $500 is very doable. Then again it really depends on the content. If there are hundreds of hours of video it may be fully worth $1000
Welcome back!! I would absolutely love to take your course, and do think the 1000$US price tag can be justified. However, I do feel like it is unattainable for a lot engineering students who would potentially be the ones getting the most out of the course. The add on system might be a good way to go about it. Perhaps making the basic introductory courses fairly inexpensive (~100-200$US) and the more advanced courses getting increasingly more expensive. That might draw more people in initially and get them hooked for the rest. Knowing your background and potential, it’ll be hard to stop coming back once they’ve got a taste. I know I wouldn’t. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Wow. Did noticed that your back. Can't say how happy I am. I was genuinely sad after you where gone. Because your the only one for me that can explain complicated things for me to understand
Good for you. I had the same issue some years ago and took the same route as you. Today I have a work that stops at 15:05 and everything after that is MY free time. I earn less but I am 10 times more happy. I now have a life, hobbies and some ME time.
Can you do a video going a little more in depth about your time in FS? As someone who is currently on an FSAE team i would love to hear about your cars and time in the competition.
There's heaps of resources online! Look at Monash's thesis and paper series. They're currently releasing papers on their process for different components and systems on the vehicles.
@@joostin123 personally im less interested on specific technical aspects that would be published in the Monash papers and more interested in the experiences and things he learned along the way. I have read technical papers from teams and they are very good resources but I always enjoy learning about the person behind the car and their thought process at a bigger picture level.
Highly talented young man. Great communicator in putting he’s knowledge in Lehman terms. All the best to you my friend. Wish you where around when I was racing superkarts ! Kind regards - Geoff
The only drawback for me of a high-priced, extremely in-depth course is that it won't lead to any reputable qualification. It would help people who are curious and want to learn but not necessarily people serious about getting into the field professionally... Perhaps have a tiered system, $x low cost, high volume price model for the basics, getting started or seeing if it's for you, $y for the intermediate stuff, enough for amateurs to do some home-brew race car design, $z for a cut-down college or university course, enough to get you through your first day on the job?
Excited for the aero analysis videos to come out on various production vehicles and even race cars. They were the reason I subscribed years ago so I'm excited to see some more of those in the future.
As someone whos currently in Formula SAE this really makes me reconsider my future plans. Cause as you say it is really time consuming and if the life of a racing engineer is like that I dont think thats quite the job for me. Thanks for the video
I have no idea why I clicked on this recommend video but I'm extremely glad I did! I have a new rabbit hole it get lost down and can't wait to be apart of what is to come! 600-1000 seems perfectly reasonable for what you have to offer 🤘
Welcome Back !! I’m excited to see how the corse is going to be. I’m currently a first year engineering freashboi who love race cars, and I find aero a extremely fascinating topic. I don’t think I can afford 1000$ usd though :( but I’m sure your corse is gonna do extremely well, since your videos are better than all of my current uni course videos XD I just joined a FSAE team and I’d love to hear what you did in the team when you’re in FS. Looking forward to what you’re cooking up, good luck 😉
Great to see you back! I am a mototsport engineering student and would like to buy your course to learn even more from experienced aerodynamicist, but a 1000USD is just to expensive for most students, including myself. I think by offering discounts for uni students and promoting this course to them you would deffinitely get enought volume to make it worth a discount.
Very interesting video! I'm currently in my junior (3rd) year of my BS in Aero, also doing FSAE as well. Glad to see im on the same path that you took.
Didn’t realize you’re from Sydney and back after an impressive career/stint in the UK! Once I get my race workshop operational in Wollongong will definitely be in touch! :)
Glad to see you back on YT. You definately could of gone into more detail of what you did day-to-day as an Aerodynamist in F1 without giving away inside information or breaking any NDA's. ie. Analysing WT run results and overnight CFD results, working with surfacers, designers and WT techs.. etc
Glad to see you back active on TH-cam, like to see more content on GT race cars. I race a M3 E92 have a splitter and wing but would love to improve the aero we have very few aero restrictions in my class.
don't forget he's doing all of this alone, for the amount of effort that's required for a full on course, his pricing is quite justified. we gotta support him
In regards to the course, could it include an cheaper simple beginner type. Which could lead into a more substantial course (which would cost more). Personally I find areo really interesting, but don’t use any of it in my job or currently applying it to hobbies. I couldn’t justify a $1k course roi at this stage. Possibly an introductory one more draw more people into it as well :)
I agree with comments about compartmentalizing the course and releasing sections for the ~$300 mark. I'm happy to pay $1k+ all up but it'd be hard to stump up that much in one hit. Definitely do more videos like this semi regularly, gives great insights.
Hi Kyle, glad that you back. It is a great idea and good effort in doing the course. Maybe you can make like a stage or level where the first one for the beginner, say $400 and then step up from there. I think it would be interested that you can cover the fundamental, theories, some application and general tutorial on each stage. This way, everyone who has an interest can choose the best course for them based on their current knowledge, academic level, expectation and of course the cost that they willing to pay. Anyway, thank you for sharing with us about your journey in as aerodynamicist in F1.
Fucking finally some got news in 2020! I discovered your channel shortly after you announced your new job and was disappointed since it meant you wouldn't upload new videos. By now I watched most of your videos two or three times, you really sparked my interest in aerodynamics! Today I decided to head back to your channel to refresh my understanding of vortecis (Totally misspelled that, right?) and what do I see? You are back! That's awesome! Of course I left a sub for you :)
Finally, Kyle is back! As I love this channel and the way you explain, I would love to participate in your courses. 1000+ dollars for the courses would be quite a lot for me as an engineering student. Therefore it would be great if the courses could be cheaper or split into different levels so that you can start with cheaper introductory courses and upgrade later on. With the level of content that you produce, I am fine with paying 1000$ at the end for all courses including theory and application. Hopefully more people get excited for you course. Greetings from Germany!
Your brief description of the course for race car aero design being definitive and comments on around 1100usd pricing sounds very fair. Sure the pandemic has hit many people's wallets so maybe it could be broken down into modules to spread the cost over time for less wealthy students. Love the content and good luck with your expansion and future!
Well my M.Eng courses are about a $1000 a piece for online learning this term. If it's a really excellent 12 week course, I'd pay you the same. It's a lot, but I think I'd consider it. Just an idea, if you have consulting work that's too small/cheep for you, after completing your course you could have an option where we could have a go at it. (like an engineering fiver) Glad you're back.
I'm living and working in Germany and work in the automotive industry. I feel the pain you went through regarding the remoteness of where you live. I live in an apartment and I really miss the beaches on the surf coast in Victoria. I also miss not having access to a shed to build stuff on the weekends. Also miss the turbo LS Volvo lol. I'm debating on moving to a new industry soon and getting out of Germany.
I would gladly pay $1000 USD for your courses if you can include theory, applied examples (Motorsport/F1/FSAE situations) setting up simulations (CFD and code) etc. Much appreciated from USA!
If he can do CFD coding course, assuming it isn't simplified like vorticity - stream function, but solving Navier - Stokes equations numerically, he can charge $3000 no problem. How feasible it is, I don't know. When you start solving those, it gets real dicey.
😂😂😂 10:35 Yeah I get it, I mean, we like Gordon Murray, However we all know how well He reacted upon hearing the former McLaren build team & their opinion regarding GMs claim to the MP4/4...
So the answer to all of these questions comes down to: “I got an education and graduated top of my class I worked very hard, sacrificed, worked more, and the opportunities came”. I suspect that many of the “how do I go straight from high school to my dream job” crowd won’t love that answer. Those of us who have taken similar paths in our own careers get it though. Thanks for the message about hard work, even if that wasn’t maybe the intent ❤
So, the 'secret' formula to success is - be passionate, work hard and get out there and don't dismiss your worth to any company. Hopefully there are lots of clever young folk, watching this, with loads of potential that will take that simple advice on board.
You must know my brother, Peter H, from your days at McL. He's working from home since Covid started. He never had an issue with the social side of things at McL - but he always has been boring!
What prior knowledge should we attain before taking your courses? Should we be fluent in calc or is it going to be more theory rather than practical application?
Hi Andy, the plan more or less is that if you watch my channel regularly and understand it, you shouldn't have any problems. The course will build up from the fundamentals to the more advanced stuff. Hope that helps!
Hey kyle, as a fairly broke uni student managing a fsae teams aero , I would definitely buy the course, would hope that its no more than ~$500 dollars for the course just so my wallet doesn't go too ouch.
On your course price its worth noting that in the 80's I spent two weeks wages on 3 books to learn basic aerodynamics and design on race cars. Even with an areo engineering background. There was nothing free on you tube and no PhD's designing wing end plates. Something to consider and guide what your course should cost with today's wages. Slide rules and Si calculators cost around the same as most high end computers.
I believe you should split the courses rather than build the whole thing for a high price. Start beginner at a set cost(100 or so) and then keep going up and if it makes sense to you, also increase the price. The volume of content should also be in relation to the cost as well I believe. If you go over a massive amount of content in the beginner level I think 200 or even 300 USD would be justifiable easily.
kyle; on mythbusters they did the experiment with the golf ball dimple design, covered the car in clay, did a comparison with and without clay taken out and seen some increases in speed with the dimples. have you thought of or heard of anyone else trying to incorporate this method into any of the car design or is it a forbidden fruit that is never going to be looked at?
Thanks for the Q&A. In person was not a massive issue and I am already doing things face to face and covid safe so that is not an issue. Just sometimes easier to ask questions during a live session to save time. Happy with online, the price up to $1,000 is ok once we get a feel for number of modules, duration of each module and length of each video as they will be prerecorded from what you said. Course notes to be handed out? The only thing which is a bit of a shame, I understand your reasons is getting help with setting up CFD in Openfoam or the like. I have to learn Fusion 360 and I knew I had to get CFD done as I go to drive and refine my design. Right now, with this being a hobby level that might turn into a car design exercise I have a limited budget. Software costs can add up fast, as does outsourcing consultation for when I have my car design done and ready for first CFD. Not just the body, I will be modelling the internals as well to work out airflow through the car with internal components which for my application is very important for electronics cooling so I can work out water cooling loops etc. I will explain more later if I enroll and as you're used to in this industry I have my own NDA. Anyway, I will register my email on your site and see how it pans out.
Thanks for answering my question. Looking forward to the course being released. As far as price, I guess it really depends on the length of it. 500-600USD was what I had in mind but I’ll roll with whatever the price is.
For me a $900 straight up is unfortunately a lil high, I think $600-800 is more accessible. However, payment plans make it alot more accessible, anything over $800 with a payment plan sounds like an amazing deal
Knowledge has its value and I think even tho 1000 usd is out of my reach at the moment, it probably is more than a fair price for such a high level of knowledge
Hi Kyle, I would be really interested in the course, but as a university student I can't really justify $1000. As others have said, maybe splitting the course into modules could work? Then we could pick the modules that we would most like to focus on - for example if you were going to teach the maths background of calculus, that may not be necessary for someone with pre-existing engineering knowledge. Super happy that you're back on the channel!
Hi Kyle. Knowing that your background is on aerodynamics would you consider making another course on suspension geometry??. Nice to have you back Octavio
Hi Kyle! I am starting to work with aerodynamics in an Formula Student team and am really really interested in your course. Have you thought about doing bulk discouns? Everyone in my division has started working with aero because of you vids, and I pretty sure everyone is interested in purchasing your course
well come back I would love a lesson on burnuli's principle and how the lotus engineer cracked the ground effect and how can it be applied on a road car or a sports car. and also thanks for the informative vids as an aspiring automotive designer the lesson and vids you make give me alot of information regarding on designing the whole body of the car with that information all if all goes well I could apply it on the future.
I am super interested in the courses and want to refresh some knowledge from my Uni years, But in the current situation I couldn't justify 1000USD for something I don't work in anymore. 300 to 500 would be managable I suppose.
I don't think your courses should be too cheap. you always have to take into account the fact, that once anything is online, people will pirate and share it. so don't forget about the fact, you might find your videos somewhere on reddit or so.. great and informative video tho. great to have you back, keep up the good work :)
Hi Kyle! I think I'd need to know more topics before being able to give a price. For me it's simply a hobbyist approach but I'd like to find out more for example about why the recommended expansion ratio of 5 exists for the diffuser and if it's to ensure not too much pressure difference and separation - and if so does it make it worthwhile running a higher ride height and a bigger diffuser etc Be great to have some coverage of the latest time attack cars again!
I would love a cheaper version of the course. $1000 is way out of my price range as I would only be doing it as a hobby and it’s something I want to learn for fun. I won’t be able to use it at work but I have always loved aerodynamics!
While I am a supporter for affordable post secondary education, I don't think you should lower your prices just because some people think it's too expensive. In addition, aerodynamics is quite a specific area in engineering; it's not like you're teaching calculus or numerical methods. You are selling all the years of experience and hard work, and only you truly know how difficult it was to achieve what you have so far. That said there are some ways you can try to offer a more affordable pricing, and maybe you already thought of them. For example, it would be a good idea to sell each topic or level separately and then offer a bundle pack that comes at a discount when compared to buying each individually. I also agree with you that you should not lower the price unless you can get volume. Maybe try to get paid deposits as commitments via one of those websites for your first release and only sell at a lower price if there is a guarantee in volume. Also can include certain discounts for preorders or if a buyer is a high school or university student. Maybe you can provide a sample video that covers a few minutes of each topic so customers can get a taste before committing. Good luck!
As a Latin American PhD student, spending (or investing) more than 700 USD/semester is a lot, as this is equivalent 1-month salary. However, I understand the caliber of a course like this one, so I'd make the effort to enroll.
The king of automobile engineering is back!

Your an inspiration 👍 kids should see this video and consider you as role model
I would gladly pay $1000 USD for your courses if you can include theory, applied examples (Motorsport/F1/FSAE situations) setting up simulations (CFD and code) etc. Much appreciated from USA!
If he can do CFD coding course, assuming it isn't simplified like vorticity - stream function, but solving Navier - Stokes equations numerically, he can charge $3000 no problem. How feasible it is, I don't know. When you start solving those, it gets real dicey.
I would agree, he has a PhD. 1000 dollars can’t even get you one class credit these days
@@Cherub1m7 1000 would be more along the lines of half a lecture here in the US 😂
@@Nico777s on the other side of the world, that amount is more than enough for 2 semester in ID
No problem with the 1k mark. Thats pretty par for the course for professional level motorsports seminars
😂😂😂 10:35 Yeah I get it, I mean, we like Gordon Murray, However we all know how well He reacted upon hearing the former McLaren build team & their opinion regarding GMs claim to the MP4/4...
Cool, we worked in Brackley at the same time. I was across the hill at Racing Point and I know what you mean about the lifestyle!
Charge whatever you want for your course. The free market will decide if the price is right
So the answer to all of these questions comes down to: “I got an education and graduated top of my class I worked very hard, sacrificed, worked more, and the opportunities came”.
I suspect that many of the “how do I go straight from high school to my dream job” crowd won’t love that answer. Those of us who have taken similar paths in our own careers get it though. Thanks for the message about hard work, even if that wasn’t maybe the intent ❤
Got it, hard work and dedication 👍 dully noted!
So, the 'secret' formula to success is - be passionate, work hard and get out there and don't dismiss your worth to any company.
Hopefully there are lots of clever young folk, watching this, with loads of potential that will take that simple advice on board.
Very insightful!
@@KYLEENGINEERS It definitely does. Will you dive into air flow through an engine or are you going to completely stick to body aerodynamics?
May be you could suggest suggested read books too? There are a lot of them out there... but not all of them are worth it.
Welcome back
Hey kyle, as a fairly broke uni student managing a fsae teams aero , I would definitely buy the course, would hope that its no more than ~$500 dollars for the course just so my wallet doesn't go too ouch.
This channel is fantastic.
I balked at $150, when the grand price tag came out I was well out!
My car needs a grand more than my head does.
Kyles back!!!! :D
For me a $900 straight up is unfortunately a lil high, I think $600-800 is more accessible. However, payment plans make it alot more accessible, anything over $800 with a payment plan sounds like an amazing deal
Good news! Waiting your new videos! 🇧🇷🇧🇷
Knowledge has its value and I think even tho 1000 usd is out of my reach at the moment, it probably is more than a fair price for such a high level of knowledge
Please could you do a video on the aerodynamics behind the new Bugatti Bolide
Hi Kyle, I would be really interested in the course, but as a university student I can't really justify $1000. As others have said, maybe splitting the course into modules could work? Then we could pick the modules that we would most like to focus on - for example if you were going to teach the maths background of calculus, that may not be necessary for someone with pre-existing engineering knowledge. Super happy that you're back on the channel!
Hi Kyle. Knowing that your background is on aerodynamics would you consider making another course on suspension geometry??.
Nice to have you back
Octavio
Hes back!
A course worth purchasing!
I am super interested in the courses and want to refresh some knowledge from my Uni years, But in the current situation I couldn't justify 1000USD for something I don't work in anymore. 300 to 500 would be managable I suppose.
Assuming the aero course is up for a long time, I might take it in several years once I'm in college.
I don't think your courses should be too cheap.
you always have to take into account the fact, that once anything is online, people will pirate and share it. so don't forget about the fact, you might find your videos somewhere on reddit or so..
great and informative video tho. great to have you back, keep up the good work :)
Best anime comeback ever!
Hi Kyle! I think I'd need to know more topics before being able to give a price.
For me it's simply a hobbyist approach but I'd like to find out more for example about why the recommended expansion ratio of 5 exists for the diffuser and if it's to ensure not too much pressure difference and separation - and if so does it make it worthwhile running a higher ride height and a bigger diffuser etc
Be great to have some coverage of the latest time attack cars again!
Welcome back champ love from india
