The best part about Skippy was that his owners wanted the country to see him run. Their primary base was Monmouth Park where I used to live near. The Hines were not greedy money makers and were a backbone of NJ racing for years. They felt blessed having Skippy in their stable and wanted to share him with the racing community. In my opinion their class was just as brilliant in handling Skippy as was watching him run. It was their way of thanking fans for their fortune owning this horse.
Bailey knew exactly how much horse he had. Very tactical move for Bailey to go 2 off from the rail coming down the stretch cause Skip Away is such a big horse and needed the room to jet through

In the same date of the Travers/98, there was a race that Skip Away defeated Stormin Fever, Devils Fire and others. A fantastic race! Anyone knows the name of the race? I dont remember...
Luke Kruytbosch, my all-time favorite race caller & Skip Away, one of my all-time favorite champions...Magnificent combination!
Gentleman tried but he paid for it in the end. He had nothing left. Skip Away was so tough

Very true - well said.
Skip Away runs like he really loves it. One of my favorite horses of the last 30 years.
I can't believe it's been a year. We miss you Luke.
Iron horse skip away one of the all time great
Luke's greatest call. May he rest in peace.
Wow I just read the news article. I havn't been following racing lately. It shocked me. May he rest in peace!
SKIP AND HOLY BULL,My favorite horses of the last 30 yrs..Holy bull is the best horse since Spectacular Bid
Formal Gold has the Great Skip Away's number though...
Skip Away the best horse of the last 30 years. Probably had 133 lbs for this race on his back
Holy Bull, Cigar, Skip Away
Haven't seen one as good as these three since
Bailey knew exactly how much horse he had. Very tactical move for Bailey to go 2 off from the rail coming down the stretch cause Skip Away is such a big horse and needed the room to jet through
What a stellar race this was.

I own The Full Brother to The Great Skip Away
asparintetovar-that might have been the '98 Philip Iselin at Monmouth. Skippy was first, Stormin Fever second, and Devils Fire third.
In the same date of the Travers/98, there was a race that Skip Away defeated Stormin Fever, Devils Fire and others. A fantastic race! Anyone knows the name of the race? I dont remember...
Philip H. Iselin Handicap Grade 2
I was a kid when this went down I lived around the corner from there off of Century and Doty
Fast
@allgodscreatures2010 Ditto...
Gentlemen was a great horse..but just not as good as the mighty Skip Away.
Got repelled at the top of the stretch here.
I didn't care for skip away.
Why?
@@meydanrocks1954 Maybe he's a fan of Cigar or Gentleman?
